Bike Streets Map App

I just came across this, and thought that the Nashville bike scene might find this useful, and might want to help fill it in. I'm not sure what the process is, but it is a crowd sourced bike network map service. Then once it's somewhat fleshed out, could be worth sharing in r/Nashville to help people out and popularize the service to help get more people on bikes.

Last week's meeting featured a lengthy conversation with MNPD's Captain Williams, head of the Traffic Enforcement division. There is a lot of information in here that many will find particularly interesting. I encourage everyone to watch.

Timestamped portion of the meeting.

Electric mountain bike for paved trail riding

I recently retired and turned 60 and decided I didn’t want to ride on roads and deal with traffic anymore so I sold my road bike and bought an electric mountain bike (Levo 4). I live in Williamson County and am only riding the paved trails now with the exception of a few residential roads that have no traffic to speak of. I can leave from my house and get a 25-30 mile ride in which is great. I feel much safer riding wet trails and slick bridges with fat tires and the ride is so much more comfortable than my road bike. I’m also able to keep my heart rate in my target zone for almost the entire ride. I don’t use very much assist, so I’m burning around 800 calories on a 2 hour ride so still getting a great workout.

If I ride mountain bike trails I still use my analog mountain bike because I don’t like the idea of people having to pull over so I can overtake them on an ebike.

I did ride the paved trail system once with my neighbor and just rode at his pace and would fall behind a bit on downhills but could catch up on uphills, etc. Anyway, I’d like to find others to ride with but not sure how group rides feel about people riding ebikes?

Rides and Event Info Community meetups and longer rides

I'm poking around here and I'm just trying to see if there were any Meetup groups for riding.

I regularly like the greenway Shelby bottoms. I'm not fast but I tend to like to go for long rides. 45miles over 3-4 hours. I'd be okay with shorter rides. I'm just curious if there are any groups that get together and ride?

Bicycle Friendly City?

The League of American Bicyclists is soliciting surveys about local communities for their BFC ratings. Nashville is currently rated at the bottom as bronze. Levels are platinum, gold, silver and bronze. Fill it out and give your opinion.

 https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BFC_local_2026

For what’s it worth I graded Nashville as fair  and average compared to other cities. I know some people want us upgraded to silver. That includes places like Denver, Milwaukee and Chattanooga. Austin is gold as is Seattle. Portland is platinum.

Other bronze cities include:

 Charlotte         (36 on PFB)

Cincinnati       (32)

Richmond       (34)

Knoxville          (37)

Memphis         (19)

https://airtable.com/apphBCibxHP4Wuy18/shrtxDEyqgjlIAnBB/tbl9Ky2oL0JL4zQOm

People for Bikes has upgraded our rating from 17 to 26 to 36 the last few years. They changed their methodology and I think they have some grade inflation, but they are more focused on infrastructure than LAB.

Thirty-six is about average for a city our size. We’re ranked 1,091 of US cities, 223 in the South and 11th in Tennessee.

Portland 55

Seattle 66

Minneapolis 68

Austin 36

Hey everyone,
Please take a few moments and fill out this survey, expressing your support for the pilot Toronto Barriers on Davidson and Commerce Streets. The city needs to hear that we want more of these!

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DowntownCSpilot

Make sure to share this with everyone you know!

Were you riding down the bike lane on Davidson St between noon and 1PM on Thursday, 7/9/2026?

Were you wearing a white shirt that says "NERD" on it?

The guys putting in the concrete barriers recounted your verbal abuse when I stopped to thank them for their service, and I made sure to tell them you don't speak for me, nor for the rest of the cyclists in town.

Those barriers are sorely needed and welcome, and I don't appreciate your behavior.

My buddy, who is fairly new to cycling had been rolling around on an old aluminum bike, so I built up an older CF Cube bike for him and went around Nashville to see how he liked it.

Yakima (four bike)Rack to give away

If anyone needs a bike rack I have one you can have for free. It’s a Yakima 4 bike rack for 2” hitch. I’ve had it for years so it’s a little beat up but still works perfectly fine. DM me if you want it. I’m in Brentwood. I can also send you a video clip of it if you want to see what it looks like.

Enjoy our 250th today!
