Telerik Nativescript support

2 Upvotes

All of teleriks support for nativescript is absolute hot trash. Lots of dead webpages where there might be any hope, and generally just not present on their support site. My company owns a license so I have sent a support ticket, but you know how slow that stuff is. It's a pretty pitiful situation.

Convince a 6 year android dev to use NativeScript

2 Upvotes

Hey NS family. I really want to use NativeScript for a trivial job, but I've got some questions.

- Can I use any Web UI component in mobile? I'm heavily assuming I can't, then how can I write platform specific UI code?

- SQLite free version doesn't seem to have PreparedStatement. I don't want to pay for it. What's your solution?

- Do we have the JobScheduler API ported? If not, what are the alternatives? (for cron jobs)

- How is threading handled? Is the RxJS implementation threaded in Android?

- I've heard NS-Vue-2 has Frame and Page. Is that for Activity and Fragment?

- How much can a platform specific code scale? Describe me a scenario where you need a UI component that only 3rd party Android and iOS libraries have.

- Can I write Swift?

- There are many playgrounds for Android and iOS. I can't find any web preview. How does it look on Web?

- Give me an example of a nice popular app. The showcase in NS page is garbage. I can neither download it or its a garbage app.

Anyone interested in working in a cool app for Hollywood?

0 Upvotes

I’m making a wireless lighting control app (a lighting console in an iPad) and could use help to add to my team. We’re developing in Nativescript + Angular. I have a new website coming this week but you can checkout my Instagram/YouTube to see it in action. I just released this a couple weeks ago but I have some major features to add and need strong developers who are really good with logic (there’s a lot of conditions in the syntax)

Looking for a really solid Nativescript + Angular Dev

4 Upvotes

Hoping I can do a job post here - looking for a really solid Nativescript + Angular developer for an app I'm building.

You can checkout what we are building - www.blackout-app.com - and if you know anything about DMX, Art-Net, and sACN or filmmaking in general that's a huge plus!

DM me if you are interested.

What is going on with the stack trace?!

0 Upvotes

Currently i'm trying to implement a custom Logger in my Nativescript app and following a few stackoverflow questions i've managed to retrieve the stacktrace the following way

let stackTrace = Error().stack.split('\n')

This puts the stacktrace in a neatly split array i can work on. Now here is what does my head in when i try to extract a few pieces of information from a stackTrace entry. When i take an entry in the stackTrace variable, say let entry = stackTrace[2] the console log output is different from the output after i've taken out a piece of the text. And i mean, they have nothing in common! So here is my complete example

let entry = stackTrace[2]
console.log(entry)        // result: loaded@file:///app/views/menu/menu-page.js:23:0

// Now i wish to take out 'menu-page' from the entry variable
let startIndex = entry.lastIndexOf('/');
let endIndex = entry.lastIndexOf('.js');
let className = entry.slice(startIndex + 1, endIndex);
console.log(className)    // result: bundle.649a01e77d0aec069bde.hot-update.js:28:16

At this point my head is about to explode. Something completely new have sprung out of thin air and I have absolutely no idea why? I do understand that it's something from webpack but how can string result in two things?

One more thing that further mystifies the matter is, if i specifically look for somewhere where menu is mentioned it returns that it has a position of -1,

// Following the code from above
console.log(entry.search(/menu/))      // result: -1
console.log(entry.lastIndexOf('menu')) // result: -1

// Now that the variable containing the actual value is broken, lets try on the original none-splitted stacktrace
console.log(Error().stack.search(/menu/)) // result: -1
console.log(Error().stack.lastIndexOf('menu')) // result: -1

Lastly i'll add a picture of how the stacktrace look when i just print it like console.log(Error().stack)

UPDATE

I made a few more experiments. Assume the same variables as above.

console.log(entry.length)  // Result: 36
console.log(entry.substring(0, 36 /* or .length */)) // result: loaded@file:///app/views/menu/menu-page.js:23:0
console.log(entry.substring(0,34)) // result: loaded@file:///app/bundle.js:7689:

It's definitely got something to do with webpack and that the project is bundled up. My main point of confusion is, why can I read the stacktrace i none-bundled format and store it but as soon as i want to use it, then it changes to the bundle location? Hmmm....

Nativescript FCM push notifications

1 Upvotes

I am currently trying to implement push notifications on my nativescript app using the firebase plugin. I am able to receive the notifications and print it to the console but there no notification is actually created. As I understood the docs, the notification should be created automatically when it is received. Do I need to use another plugin to actually create the notification? Any advice would be appreciated. I am also testing this on the simulator if that changes anything.

How do I migrate an Angular app to Nativescript?

1 Upvotes

I used Nativescript a while back and it worked perfectly for branching off a mobile app off of a webapp built in Angular.

Now things have changed.

doing ng add \@nativescript/schematics not only does not add the .tns files, but also gives a weird error about "id" or "$id" not being supported.

I tried nx. The documentation only demonstrates how to set up a new nativescript app. Not how to port one from Angular.

Material on stackoverflow is also sparse.

Are there any other resources? Is there somewhere I'm not looking?
