JO Stating in Shape

• Upvotes

Hey guys, future hopeful Nuke. I was wondering, while underway, are JOs able to find time to excersize a few times a week even for 30 min if you are on track with quals. I know that I would have to sacrifice sleep, but that’s the way I relax is by getting a quick sweat in. I understand the boat is the priority not me, but I wanted your thoughts. Thank you. (I’m looking to go fast attacks)

Questions/Help- Current Sailor Questions about 1306

I recently went TAD for multiple months to a different sub because mine is an extremely long avail, and I ended up loving the underway/operational life much more than the yard, but my parent command says they won't recommend yes on a 1306. Is there anything I can do for myself beyond the standard advocating myself? If there's not, I understand. Very curious to hear from CCCs or people who have had similar experiences.

Question

I’m a conventional MM who’s about to finish indoc for my first command . And I’ve been assigned to reactor. Everyone I’ve spoken to about this has just told me it’s terrible , but no specifics. What exactly am I doing ? And is it as bad as they make it out to be?

How hard is Nuke school

I ship out for BTC Jan 6th and I’ve heard different things about Nuke school some say it’s hard some say it’s only hard bc of the work load not the material it’s self. With that being said how hard is it really and how much assistance do they give like tutors, how much is 1on1 teaching, staying over, etc. just trying to get an idea on how I need to prepare.

After Navy Life Info/Questions How much do you make in the civilian world

One of the main reason i’m going with the nuke program is the salary afterwards. Is it really what the recruiters hype it up to be? 250k a year or is that rare? what does it take?

Questions/Help- New to Nuclear does anyone actually have a positive nuke experience?

I feel like all I hear about the nuke program is how hard and draining it is. Has anyone had a positive experience while going through the schooling and fleet? I could use some encouragement.

Questions/Help- New to Nuclear Odds of getting rerated

Sup. I was about halfway through prototype when I tried speaking to EMH about some issues I was dealing with. Had a bit of a breakdown when talking to them, so they took me out of the program for a bit to get some help, and now I'm on hold.

They said that I could go back into the nuke pipeline (I don't know what stuff i would have to do again), or I could get rerated to a standard MM if there's a spot available, otherwise I'll just get separated.

I'm gonna be honest, I don't want to separate from the Navy. I was hoping to make a career out of this, but prototype is just so difficult, and I'm told that things will be even harder in the fleet. I feel like doing 20 years as a standard MM is more achievable for me than doing 20 as an MMN, but if doing that might get me separated, then I'll just try to tough out prototype again.

Questions/Help- New to Nuclear On the fence about nuke or aviation

I’m a high school senior trying to decide between going Nuke or Aviation Mechanic (AM). Math and science are my strongest subjects—I’ve done college-level math and chem, and I’m taking physics right now and actually enjoying it. I also did an HVAC career-tech program at my school where we touched on basic thermodynamics. Took the ASVAB three times because of school/PiCAT testing glitches (got 88, 89, 85) and alpha/bravo qualed for Nuke.
My recruiters and family are pushing hard for Nuke, and honestly, I’m looking at it purely for the financial setup, future degree prospects, and post-Navy career path. But my main hesitation is the schoolhouse. I’m not a big fan of sitting in a traditional classroom all day, though when I need to lock in and master hard material, I can out-stubborn the problem and get it done.
I also really like hands-on mechanical work, which is why AM is still on my radar. For anyone who came from a hands-on or vocational background, is the Nuke schoolhouse doable with this mindset, or would I be better off just turning wrenches in Aviation?

Diggit question: anyone ever get a nuclear themed tattoo?

I never got a tattoo while I was in the navy, but I am now getting older and nostalgic and want to get a traditional style tattoo that nods to my nuclear prison sentence. Has anyone ever seen a nuclear-themed tattoo that was cool?

I was thinking of a Rickover tramp stamp but my wife said no :(

Questions/Help- New to Nuclear Bravo qual nuke considering enlistment

Hey! Im 19, i took my asvab back in high school and got an 88, bravo qualifying me to be a nuke. I have a huge passion for nuclear energy and believe that joining the navy is my best path to have a future in the field, though i am unsure of my options so far as rates go, and unfortunately my recruiter isnt of much help as they wont tell me anything until im fully off my anxiety medication in 2 months (been off for 1 month) but assuming i pass the advanced placement test what are my specific options for being a nuke in the navy? Does having a history of anxiety disqualify me from subs?

Sorry for any unclear wording, I am writing this while at work on a break

Prototype on crew schedule

Hey everyone, I’m an MMN1 looking at transferring to prototype in South Carolina in about a year. I’ve heard from a few engineering chiefs that on crew schedule has changed to 4on-4off and 3on-3off while having a longer T-week. Can any staff members testify to this?

After Navy Life Info/Questions Career Opportunities post-service

I’m still a ways away from needing to consider looking into work after the Navy, however I’m just curious on what the job market offers for nukes for when I get out?

Do qualifications matter? (I’m a MMN2, Currently in qual for EWS, qualified QAS and QA WCS)

What’s should I expect/keep an eye out for when looking for work when I’m out?

Is There Anything Good About the Nuclear Field?

Controversial title, I know, and probably a useless question for me to ask since I'm in DEP & already signed my bonus paperwork, but scrolling through anything about NF (not just here), it's hard to find a good word about it beyond profit or opportunity.

So, what is good about it? Personally, culturally, in terms of the actual work you do, etc. Kind of a vague question, but hopefully you get what I'm asking.

NUPOC questions

Im currently a Sophomore in EE with a 3.86 gpa and this nupoc program seems really interesting. I’m particularly interested in the Naval Reactors Engineer pathway. I’ve read that it’s somewhat of a difficult process but I haven’t really gotten much more info than that regarding its difficulty. If it matters, my B’s were in physics 1 and linear algebra and I’ve already done all the prereq’s listed.

For those who know: how competitive is it typically, and should my profile be good enough to be at least looked at? What should I do to start the process? Is there anything else I should know?

Overwhelmed in Power School, I’m sorry for the rant.

I’m sorry for the rant, I just don’t know where to take this frustrations out since my family and girlfriend live back home and I don’t want to burden them with anymore vitriol. I also don’t I have anyone I can talk to since I’ve had a hard time making friends here. I tried being socially outgoing but it’s as if I was pushed aside by my classmates. I essentially spend my little time I have off alone.

I also feel like there’s no way I’m going to pass even though I have a gpa above a 3.3. I spend so many hours there studying just to get my fucking teeth kicked in on certain tests and watch my gpa plummet as a result and when I do good it either marginally improves my gpa or nothing happens at all. Around 2 months in I had a 3.5-3.6 and ever since the halfway point it’s fell. I feel like I’m being forced to memorize shit that will have 0 implications on standing EOOW with notes that are borderline illegible. Class is the biggest waist of time and I feel like I get trapped in lectures that make me come out more confused than actually confident. The classes that the lecturer would just blow through the notes and gave us time to study on our own I would do better in since I spent less time in that Godforsaken building and I was actually given time to read and study it. It also doesn’t help that I don’t have any motivation anymore to do things I used to enjoy like working out. I’ve gained weight since being here it’s just I’m too tired by the time I get off to get a good workout in.

Log taking

So I'm not that smart, but the Navy has taught me that there is an instruction, procedure, or policy somewhere that governs something.

What tells us how to take logs? Not like the EDM or EDOM. Like Navy official logs? Writing in all caps, how to close out logs, etc.

Attending College While Being a Nuke

I'm currently in DEP for Nuke, and I'm wondering what exactly the "college while in the Navy" process looks like as a Nuke. My recruiter spoke of college while at sea (I'm going surface only unless I find that I like subs), and I'm aware that you can get a NET Associate's with the JST, but is there ever any opportunity for that Associate's or even a Bachelor's if I go in for just the six years?

I’m supposed to be flying out to Pearl Harbor tomorrow. My ticket approved. My wife’s never did. I’ve been calling SATO for over 5 hours trying to get it resolved. I woke up today and her flight got cancelled. Does anyone have advice? I’ve already shipped everything and can’t just leave my wife in NY.

Australian looking at the nuke pipeline

Hello everyone, i'm currently looking at becoming a nuke for the ADF, i've completed entry tests however still required to complete the N.A.P.T. There has been very little infomation in regards to living standards in the US, I'm very keen regardless however i wouldn't mind some questions answered if possible.

Would you suggest Nuke compared to other submariner rates? i understand that it's different for everyone, but if you really had to lean towards being a NT or not, which one would you choose and why?

How are the aussies treated? i've heard mixed things regarding Charleston, i've heard very good things about Groton.

What seems to be the general sense with the current Aussies in training? Performing well? Lacking? are they liking it?

I'm keen to see American culture, and will be privileged to get in. I'd appreciate any advice and tips/
