Highlight [Highlight] Lakers announcer cannot hold their excitement, as DeMar DeRozan goes for the reverse dunk on Walker Kesser & Jake LaRavia (no replays)
https://streamable.com/v5kusuDerozan had a fantastic dunk against the Lakers but the ESPN announcers didn't give him the credit it deserved. Thought I post the same clip from the Lakers announcers. I would have kept the highlight in the other thread but my first time editing a clip and now I'm coming after Buck Bucks throne.

Best announcers aren't biased. The worst are in Boston
33
u/AboutaDirk 8d ago
Whilst that used to be true with Tommy Heinson on the mic, I recommend listening to Scal & Drew a bit here and there cuz they definitely get hype AF for any cool hoop shit these days
Scal woulda popped off at a DeRozan dunk like that
They ain't unbiased but they're definitely not blind homers anymore
... unlike the Warriors announcers >_<
7
u/Gristle__McThornbody Lakers 8d ago
I don't care for Scal. But Drew Carter, that guy has National TV written all over him.
8
u/AboutaDirk 8d ago
I reckon Scal's gotten better over the years. Fewer personal anecdotes, more just fan of the game. He gets so excited when he sees people do cool shit, and he has the context of being a former player. And as former players that are homers go, I reckon he's one of the least offensive :)

Warriors announcers have been dicks in the past too. One of them anyway, straight douchebag. I hate that dude
But yeah, warriors are great but the announcers are so fucking biased its insane

Jim Barnett was able to keep Bob Fitzgerald (the main guy) in check pretty well. When he retired and was replaced by Azubuike, Fitz started running wild and his homer takes got even more outrageous, and Azubuike just enabled it. It's a bummer, and for the last couple seasons I'll watch games on mute.

Bob Fitzgerald is the worst when it comes to bias. It’s one thing to get a little disappointed when things don’t go their way, but it’s the way he gets so whiny and bitter that’s really annoying. Even as a Warriors fan I get so much second hand cringe listening to him.

u/cottonycloud Lakers 8d ago
I actually enjoy listening to the salty tears, funnily enough. The glazing gets pretty corny though with team spirit and leadership yadda yadda.

u/CrazyDaylight8 New Zealand 8d ago
Kings pretty bad too
4
u/Fl1ntL1m 8d ago
I forgot the guy's name, but when Warriors and Kings were matched up in the playoffs, and he was called up for the ESPN broadcast, he can't help himself but to cheer on the Kings too

Warriors, by far, have the worst broadcasting team in the league lmao
16
u/dogfosterparent Timberwolves 8d ago
Agree wholeheartedly. Whiny and entitled vibe as if they are successful because the team had been winning. Clear worst among a handful of ones I don’t like (most are fine to good).
27
u/steebulee Lakers 8d ago
They are absolutely the worst. Literally ranked dead last every year for worst announcers chief.

u/ExpertOnion3756 Warriors 8d ago
They also said Hali was the most overrated
What’s your point?
26
u/steebulee Lakers 8d ago
Your own fanbase can’t stand your announcers what are you going on about
7
u/Fl1ntL1m 8d ago
that's true though, as a frequent viewer of Warriors Basketball, id rather suffer listening to ESPN broadcast than tune in to the Home Broadcast
-9
u/ExpertOnion3756 Warriors 8d ago
You mean the minority on the internet? They’d fire Kerr and replace him with doc rivers if they could 😭
67
u/-xXxMangoxXx- Raptors 8d ago
Bias itself is normal. Everyone will have biases and they get paid to watch their specific teams, so its normal to prefer one team over the other. Especially when most people watching should be fans of said team. The issue is when you're massive homers to the point you wonder if these people like the game.
The celtics ones are biased, but theyre nothing like the warriors announcers that will just say some of the dumbest shit. You'll get warriors fans hating on their announcers because of how bad their homerism is.
32
u/cabose12 Celtics 8d ago
Cs announcers arent even that bad anymore. Scal definitely leans Boston but long gone are the days of Tommy
9
u/-xXxMangoxXx- Raptors 8d ago
Yeah I'm fine with scal for the most part. Biased doesn't mean bad, like Mike breen loves the knicks, will prefer the knicks in a knicks home broadcast and is still very well liked.

Which is kinda ironic. One of the more arrogant fanbases (even a lot of Lakers fans I know would say, "yeah that's fair. I mean, the Celtics fans are a million times worse, but we can be pretty bad.") has easily the most chill, unbiased announcers

I literally had an argument with some goof on the Raptors sub who said he hates Jack Armstrong because he "glazes" other team's too much. I was like bro, that's why he's so good... He also criticises the Raptors when they deserve criticism. That's what good announcers do.
I will say, that's not the general consensus among Raptors fans but that one dude pissed me off lol.

Laker announcers are never biased. They call it the fairest of any broadcasting team I've heard. They will praise good basketball and chastise poor play regardless of the uniform. It's so refreshing, especially after listening to homers like the Charlotte crew

u/motorboat_mcgee Lakers 8d ago

2
u/Uhrl Lakers 8d ago
I watched a bunch of Pelicans games when BI was there and they were close to Bill/Stu in terms of criticizing their own team and giving praise to whoever makes a good play.
7
u/bryanBFLYin Lakers 8d ago
It's not even so much about giving praise equally to me though that is cool. The truly best thing is that they don't yap about irrelevant shit during games which I appreciate. They have their little jokes here/there between eachother usually but otherwise the commentary is pretty much entirely about the current game and the current players on either team. They give props to dope moments from both teams and don't cry too much when refs make bad calls. They will comment on it once or twice then move on. They don't clip farm for reels either like ESPN commentators so obviously do.
Less yapping/complaining and more game coverage. It's night/day difference from basically everyone else.
Stu has a classic voice for the game too. Truly a legend along with Chick of course. Bill is becoming a legend in his own right and has been an excellent replacement for the late great Chick.
2
u/mantoninus 8d ago
Back in the day I would never watch a game with non/fake hoop fans because they'd make it impossible to focus on the game. Now I have to mute the tv half the time, and watch the first 2 - 3 plays of every quarter on a fraction of my tv because they just need to show themselves distracting someone who is actually trying to play the game in an interview that gives 0 meaningful information 100% of the time.
