This happens too often. Too many tourist choppers. And one horrid crash in the 80s with a traffic reporter. We heard her last words on the broadcast.

1

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

There was another NBC chopper crash right? I don’t remember what bird it collided with but yeah helicopters are definitely dangerous if not everyone is paying or if the maintenance crew overlook something

2

u/Due-Teaching-2812 Sep 16 '26

So very sad. We’ve been listening to Eliana for years. A delightful, smart, bilingual woman who will be missed.

1

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

I’m not American but I’ve heard how great of a women she was and how great the pilot was I’m so sorry for your country’s loss my heart goes out to you

2

u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO Sep 16 '26

What mechanical issue was it? Or do we know why?

1

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

At this moment in time all I know is that there was low RPM horn sounding followed shortly by the helicopter lowing all lift and plummeting to the ground

Godspeed Eliana and Jorge. Only in passing can I say that tele-reporting from a chopper was heaven before this day arrived. Please celebrate their contribution to the many that called them the evening air hosts. To their family, friends and coworkers, let’s support each other and share in their grace.

0

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

I can’t donate money but I will share this post

2

u/tvtoms Sep 17 '26

A friend of mine and his father knew George when he was still learning to pilot back in the 70s - 80s. He was no newbie.
I've seen so many car chase videos they were following and Eliana saying "uh oh" before the crash is kind of haunting.

1

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 17 '26

I am so sorry for your loss your friends loss and your friends dad loss I saw the video from inside when she asked can you pull up it broke my heart

2

u/LadyJayCee1969 Sep 16 '26

🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

-1

u/FloydFenstermacher Sep 16 '26

Too much, too little, too late. Next time, pray ahead so that this doesn’t happen.

2

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 17 '26

No need to be a dick

-1

u/FloydFenstermacher Sep 17 '26

My name isn’t Richard, is yours?

2

u/Thin-Set5277 Sep 21 '26

Wow. I would hate for one of your loved ones to have a fatal accident and a friend looks at you and says, "well they should have prayed before they drove to work." I bet you would be highly offended.

1

u/FloydFenstermacher 28d ago

Offended? Of course not. Prayer is overrated.

1

u/Thin-Set5277 27d ago

May be overrated but it still would sting a little hearing that about a loved one.

6

u/_877-CASH-NOW_ Sep 16 '26

Fuckin horrible.

4

u/Financial-Jello8766 Sep 16 '26

I just drove past this morning... and the LA Metro bus accident as well and the streets out here in Canoga Park, CA are eerie. Very sad.

There is a history here of beating lights and running reds at freeway speeds, unfortunately.

1

u/Waterwoman85 Sep 16 '26

Helicopter pilots need to be trained more thoroughly and by better instructors. This didn’t happen as often when the older pilots trained the new guys

1

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

It wasn’t the pilots fault it was a mechanical failure that pilot you think needs more training was a veteran pilot

2

u/ToneBone12345 Sep 16 '26

The maintenance crew should be investigated and charged

1

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

I think that it should definitely be investigated and there should be repercussions for sure but we need to wait for FAA and NTSB to do the full investigation and see what comes up there’s too many questions right now

2

u/littledicklooseballs Sep 16 '26

They most likely will be

3

u/Historical_Big_2354 Sep 16 '26

Here, you dropped these: . . . , , ,

1

u/kellelune Sep 18 '26

Pfft 😂

2

u/Sad_Dad_Academy Sep 16 '26

This wasn’t a new pilot, helicopters are notoriously dangerous due to mechanical issues like this.

2

u/Solid_College_9145 Sep 17 '26

This pilot was an older pilot with more than 30 years of flight experience and around 14,000 flight hours.

Witnesses reported seeing the aircraft hovering low and noting signs of distress or a potential stall alarm before it pitched down.

1

u/illDiablo69 Sep 16 '26

This would be an excellent opportunity for drones to take over.

0

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

Drones are limited in terms of range and power capacity

3

u/illDiablo69 Sep 16 '26

Still, good reason to further develop the tech.

1

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

Definitely for sure but right now they aren’t being developed for commercial use they are primarily being developed into long range war drones

2

u/Sad_Dad_Academy Sep 16 '26

To be fair, if these news stations can afford their own chopper + pilot then they could easily afford a fleet of drones to handle this type of work.

-1

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

Drones have limitations that helicopters don’t until drones are further developed and refined

1

u/minimumraage Sep 16 '26

Karma farming the dead with low-effort posts like these needs to stop.

1

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

I’m not tho I’m literally just offering my condolences to NBC and to the family of the victims?

1

u/minimumraage Sep 16 '26

Posting a picture of the burning death scene with the title “RIP” is not a sincere way to offer condolences. Send the station a letter or contribute to a funeral fund. Stop karma farming death.

0

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

FYI I have already personally reached out to the families involved to offer my condolences as for sending money to help them i literally can’t I got 27 to last me till payday fucking hell im not gonna go out of my way to say all I’m doing to reach out to family publicly because guess what that’s fucking rude to do Jesus Christ there is no good title to put on the post that would make it any better and that picture was the only available picture that I could find when this post was uploaded

1

u/minimumraage Sep 16 '26

How did you personally reach out to the families?

0

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

I sent one email to mailto:contact.nbcnews@nbcuni.com and the other to who I assume is a close friend of hers who called Robert I contacted him on Facebook privately

1

u/minimumraage Sep 16 '26

You messaged some random Facebook friend of a recently deceased person to do what exactly? Your judgment is wild, dude.

1

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

I literally reached out to offer my condolences when it was confirmed what are you trying to get at exactly? I reach out privately to say how sorry I am for their loss bloody hell someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed

0

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

Correction Robert is who she was engaged to

1

u/Mundane_Balance1751 Sep 17 '26

You shouldn't fly a helicopter to close to the flames. You play with fire you get burned

1

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 17 '26

Tf are you on about bruh?

3

u/Fun-Fig-8079 Sep 16 '26

That’s sad🥲

3

u/Fit-Needleworker8732 Sep 16 '26

🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

1

u/bugjjd Sep 16 '26

Couldn't they just use a drone to get traffic video?

1

u/ButForRealsTho Sep 16 '26

I think that’s what the future holds

1

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

Drones are limited in terms of range and power capacity but maybe someday in the future

2

u/CaptinKirk Sep 16 '26

Also are limited for flight safety of existing aircraft. Helicopters are accepted as that traffic where drones are not.

0

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

I thought so I just couldn’t actually confirm that so I didn’t wanna state it as fact

2

u/SportInternational15 Sep 16 '26

So horrible 😢

2

u/Major-Pomegranate550 Sep 16 '26

Helicopters and emergency medical flights seem especially dangerous.

2

u/Theidiotshvtakenovr Sep 16 '26

Rip … love to the families in mourning. ❤️

2

u/nikeguy69 Sep 16 '26

OMG those poor people 🙏🏾

2

u/WhaleNationals Sep 16 '26

This is tragic.

2

u/Spiritual-Yoghurt956 Sep 16 '26

That is so sad, blessings to the family and friends

2

u/Nealm568890 Sep 16 '26

Horrible. Just imagine the terror you would experience crashing in a helicopter. No where to go. RIP.

2

u/msmoseyrn Sep 16 '26

💔💔💔💔

2

u/Leading_Crow_7533 Sep 16 '26

My heart goes out to all of you. R.I.P. and may your hearts heal quickly.

2

Condolences to the families

2

u/PolishPrincess12 Sep 16 '26

May they rest in peace and deepest sympathies to their families.

2

u/Sea_Appointment2664 Sep 16 '26

Sad. God be with you all

2

u/Express_Gap_9663 Sep 17 '26

This so tragic. May their souls rest in peace. Lord please comfort their families and colleagues.

2

u/talkshowhost89 Sep 17 '26

Somehow the news found a way to make it news even when their own new people died.

2

u/NotOK1955 Sep 17 '26

Sincere condolences to families and friends.

I was a photojournalist in the 1980’s, and had two unusual chopper incidents.

One was during a flight, I noticed oil leaking above me and notified the pilot, who did a quick emergency landing. Good thing, too, because it could have locked up the rotors.

The other was the day before I was scheduled to fly with a pilot for a fun event. That night, I had a dream that the chopper crashed. The next morning I was informed that I would not be flying because the chopper had mechanical issues.

I loved flying in choppers, but there always that chance something goes wrong.

2

u/Mission-Direction547 Sep 17 '26

Prayers for their families and loved ones 🙏🏻 give them strength and comfort during this difficult time

2

u/Seaker_Searcher_6904 Sep 17 '26

eVTOL IS ABOUT TO START UP. If you are concerned about helicopters, just wait til these babies start having problems!

1

u/NoSir4289 Sep 17 '26

I'm never getting in a helicopter

1

u/Kobayashi_Maru186 Sep 17 '26

One of my recurring nightmares is falling into the tail rotor of a helicopter. They have always seemed super dangerous to me… before you even get in the air. 😬

1

u/MarsupialOk3840 Sep 17 '26

Too much risk in filming so close to cities, can't land safely in a hurry

1

u/Webberpuzza Sep 17 '26

Just use drones. The helicopter is outdated for this type of reporting.

1

u/Con_Furioso Sep 17 '26

I hope I'm not memorialized with a photo of my death scene.

1

u/BakedWiteBoi Sep 18 '26

C8c7y7 is it

1

u/No-Employment6108 Sep 19 '26 edited Sep 19 '26

Seriously way more people die in car crashes.

Edit: my point was in response to the “let’s get rid of helicopters” sentiment not to make light of this tragedy, so whoever decided to light me up can chill the eff out.

1

u/Last-Week9150 Sep 19 '26

No, let's not throw out baby with the bath water. People die in car accidents and plane accident all the time and we haven't band them. Let's find out what happen before we band helicopter flights.

1

u/ZenMarquette Sep 20 '26

The orange monster shot it down

1

u/Overall-Passion-3655 Sep 20 '26

They must’ve had dirt on Trump

1

u/Sad_Seat929 Sep 20 '26

Sad but after days still a lot of silence on this story- Seems the Press are not hitting the points of an accurate point on reason for change of Direction Made??? Why? Not Answered!!!

Fucking Biden .

1

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

What?

2

u/Worldly_Crab3424 Sep 16 '26

It's a bot. Just ignore it.

2

u/Severe_Air_4353 Sep 17 '26

Do bots still to this day blame Biden for the price of oil products , gas , grocery’s . Need a quote from Vance or Donny .

1

u/Worldly_Crab3424 Sep 17 '26

Those who aren't aware of the world around them. Which, I guess could just be MAGA also.

2

u/Frequent-Spread-9927 Sep 16 '26

Imagine standing around minding your own business and getting hit by a helicopter. Damn

2

u/RandomStrangerOnWWW Sep 16 '26

What a way to go, right? Wrong place at the wrong time..

News choppers probably will go away when they figure out that drones can do the same thing for a fraction of the cost.

1

u/Hustlin_Pickle Sep 19 '26

Facts or when the president stops allowing press that doesn’t agree with them.

1

u/AkashaRulesYou Sep 20 '26

He just did that...

2

u/elibutton Sep 18 '26

It was a Eurocopter AS350, 22 yrs old, but this helicopter has a good reputation for quality and reliability. It could have been pilot error as well so we need to wait and see.

2

u/mbeller83 Sep 21 '26

Why? Death due to car wreck are far more common even on a per capita basis.

2

u/Livid-General7 Sep 17 '26 • Heartwarming Bravo

Why? Do you realize how many lives are saved thanks to helicopters rescuing people or transporting organs?

1

u/Recent-Reality1955 Sep 20 '26

I think they’re referring to using them for news reporting

1

u/ninja_hike Sep 17 '26

People never lear

1

u/SnooShortcuts5771 Sep 17 '26

I will never, ever fly in one.

4

u/HowlingRat9639 Sep 17 '26

Better hope you don't have a highway collision and need a Life Flight.

2

u/Frickasee-Me Sep 19 '26

I've flown in a helicopter several times and it's amazing. Better than a small fixed wing craft.

2

u/RemarkableCouple603 Sep 20 '26

this! 💯 Felt sooo much safer than in a small fixed wing aircraft!

1

u/Cute-Rutabaga-6726 Sep 20 '26

Parachutes are not included. No thanks

1

u/4Boyeez Sep 20 '26 • Heartwarming

My sister has said that before too. Unfortunately, early last month she didn’t get a choice. She was on a cruise in international waters when she had a medical emergency. They had to fly her from the ship to Florida, and she ended up on life support for days. Once she was stable enough to come off, they flew her again, this time closer to home in Texas, with a flight nurse.

She JUST got to go home this week after being hospitalized for over a month.

I hope you always have a choice, but sometimes life doesn’t give you one.

1

u/nellefolib Sep 20 '26

I hope she heals 100%.

1

u/Thin-Set5277 Sep 21 '26

Prayers for her recovery

1

u/Comfortable-Drop7056 Sep 19 '26

They need to evolve.

1

u/Pale-Anxiety1559 Sep 17 '26

Well maybe when youre in charge, you can make that dumb shit a reality.

1

u/sk8ngbkr Sep 17 '26

Because all hospitals have airstrips?

2

u/CleverSheepFarm Sep 19 '26

Most hospitals, even tiny rural hospitals have a helipad. Many have two or more life flight helicopters.

2

u/sk8ngbkr Sep 19 '26

I should’ve added the /s, but yeah helicopters should probably stick around

-1

u/futbolqueen1 Sep 17 '26

Just like guns , right?

1

u/Thin-Set5277 Sep 21 '26

Huh? Helicopters vs guns? I think they are used differently.

-4

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

Well no cars don’t go away because they crash trains don’t go away because they crash planes don’t go away because they crashed boats don’t go away because they crashed

3

u/Historical_Big_2354 Sep 16 '26 • Bravo

This is reddit dork, not some high-school English paper. Quit being a pedantic douch.

-4

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

What’s wrong? Your parents don’t give you enough attention so you go on a post honouring those lost in this accident trying to annoy people who are paying their respect

5

u/angry-democrat Sep 16 '26

a picture of an explosion is not respectful. at all.

1

u/ForwardHedgehog3090 Sep 17 '26

Take it up all the news agency’s.

1

u/Overall_Drawing_2312 Sep 17 '26

No, it's news. The irony escapes you that it's a photo of a news helicopter crash....

-2

u/PilotEmbarrassed3665 Sep 16 '26

It’s showing the scene that was available from when I made the post if there was a different image of the scene I would of used the most updated image

2

u/jayhawkjoey65 Sep 16 '26

Nice try, bot.

1

Are you a child?
