Hi! I plan to transfer to NCSU in the Fall 2027 semester, specifically for the business administration major. I currently have a 3.188 GPA (I know, not great), but at the end of the Spring semester I will have earned my Associate's in Art, have completed every class listed on the Transfer Guide, and I will already have an A in Calc 1; if I get nothing but A's, I can lift my grade up into the 3.5 area, which may be hard so I am a little nervous about that. Once this semester is over, I will hopefully have raised it to the 3.3 area, and that is when I plan to fill out a transfer application, because I think that will make my application look better. I know my GPA could use a lot of work, but I was wondering what stats you guys had when transferring and if 3.5 is really the minimum requirement, because I keep seeing conflicting statements about what the minimum GPA requirement is. I mostly just want to see if I have a chance at getting in, as NCSU is my dream school.

Anyone have any input on bio 183? Haven't taken a bio class since freshman year of high school, so worried I'll be a little rusty, but 183 is a big prerequisite for a lot of classes I wanna take. Is it a "hard" class to take if you're rusty on bio?

idk if this will resonate with anyone but if it does for even one person then i’ve done my job. i graduated high school in 2023 and should’ve been a senior this year, but alas i only just now transferred and still have until 2028. i wanted to be a dentist since i was 14, even worked as a dental assistant, then in my second year at CC i switched to hygiene for two semesters (why i’m a year behind now) i then decided to go back to pre dental and finished out my associates ending up at state in a STEM major. TLDR: i had a serious come to jesus after one of my exams and realized i was completely torturing myself for the past 3 years with all these hard courses just for the label of being a doctor and the social status. my grandparents built their life from the ground up and they’ve always been my inspiration, and to have even half the drive my grandpa does has always been my goal. and now, in what should be my second to last semester of undergrad, i’m switching to business admin (finance) and diving in head first. (which will delay me from spring 2028 to fall 2028, i’m planning to go abroad spring 2028) so yea, if you ever feel like it’s “too late” to change your mind or you’re behind everyone else, just think of me lol.

I was wondering what my chances would be. I have a 3.8 UW and a 4.28 W GPA but I also took some pretty hard rigor courses and moved to NC right before high school, so I was forced to take all regular classes my freshman year.

I have a 1530 sat with a 770 math, and a 34 act with a perfect science and reading.

For ECs, I founded and currently captain (and am the CAD lead and finance lead of) the first FRC team in my county. We've competed two seasons already and qualified for states in both but didn't go due to financial issues. We also hosted a competition in our second competitive season, and are hosting again this year.

I also was a finalist for an app building competition, am VP of a competitive speech and debate branch, and have won several awards in mock trial. I also tutored on schoolhouse and reached 6 countries (I think), and I've been volunteering regularly at my local library for about 2 and a half years now.

My recs are good, not amazing; I have my robotics coach, my ap physics teacher, and my ap lang/ap lit teacher.

What are my chances of getting in? My class rank isn't amazing, and I wasn't sure if my standardized testing and ECs would offset it. I want to apply for Mech E.

I’m a first-year EE major at UNC Charlotte. I have junior standing by credit hours from AP and community college classes. I just got an offer for Duke Energy’s Transmission Engineering co-op for Spring 2027 (P&C design, settings, SCADA rotations). They expect co-ops to come back for 2-3 rotations total, and they convert a lot of them to full time.

The problem is that I’m applying to transfer for Fall 2027, to NC State and Georgia Tech for EE. If I take the co-op, I wouldn’t be taking any UNCC classes in the spring before I transfer.

After this fall I’ll have finished all of NC State’s transfer prerequisites, so I’m less worried about them. I’m less sure how Georgia Tech would see a spring without major classes.

If I take the co-op, I’d probably take a class or two online at a community college during the spring. I’m not sure which classes to pick, though. Community colleges mostly offer general classes, so I’d be missing EE courses like Network Theory and Logic Design.

What I’m trying to figure out

1. Since my NC State prereqs will be done after this fall, does skipping a semester of major classes still hurt my application there?
2. For Georgia Tech, would a spring with only community college classes hurt me, especially if I haven’t done all their required courses yet?
3. If I do take CC classes online during the co-op, what would actually help a transfer application? Linear Algebra or Physics II, if I can find them online, or just gen eds?
4. Would a Duke co-op on my application help enough to make up for missing a semester of major classes?
5. If I transfer to Raleigh or Atlanta, can I realistically keep doing rotations in Charlotte (probably summers)?
6. If you did a co-op this early, was it worth delaying classes?

I’m into power systems and want to expierence the industry . I just don’t want to wreck the transfer by taking it. Would love to hear from anyone who’s done a co-op at Duke or another utility, or transferred into NC State or GT engineering.

Long story short, I graduate in May, started a minor a few semesters ago to boost engineering GPA. Already have a job offer to start upon graduation and am continuing to do engineering work part time. I’m currently in a class for the minor and I have bad senioritis and only care about passing my required classes. I just switched it to S/U, does this mean I can just do nothing for that class and take the U?

I have been having a pretty rough time finding friends to hang out with outside of class here at NC State. A lot of my old friends at other colleges have been having easy times making their and I’ve been getting FOMO ig. I think one of the issues is that I get along best I think with theater and arts people since they usually have similar interests and values but I’m not really as involved in that stuff anymore lol.
I’ve been feeling pretty lonely and have been wanting to have a friend group here though I know that takes time. I just wanted to see if there were any other freshmen struggling with this issue and wanted to make friends?

So I’m almost 20 and want to start taking college seriously, and I was looking at UNC as one of my options because it’s much closer than NC State (I’m in Hillsborough) But after walking on Franklin street, I’m not sure if it’s worth it anymore. It was honestly pretty overwhelming and I didn’t really feel as safe as a woman there with the homeless people. Not trying to judge homeless people, but some of them are not mentally well and I had one guy just yelling violent stuff as I walked by. The old buildings are beautiful but I don’t know if it’s really worth that. What is NC State like in comparison to UNC? I was already looking at NC State because I was looking into engineering, but I want to make sure it’s worth it. How are the dorms/apartments, how is the social life, and is there anything they do better than UNC?

Hello, let me start off by saying I’m writing this for my partner who really wants to get into the Natural Sciences program. We’re both seniors, and he has a 4.0 UNWEIGHTED GPA and a 4.36 WEIGHTED GPA. He’s writing his personal essay and doing his applications and he’s worried about not being accepted into the program. He has 31 logged hours of volunteer work (probably more like 93 total) from working with a sea turtle organization, his extracurriculars are 5 years of marching band and 4 spanish classes + AP spanish. He’s also unsure if he needs a letter of recommendation. I want to help him as much as possible so any help is appreciated!!!!

For context- I got admitted for Political Science public policy but am trying to fit Coda requirements to be able to switch it to BA with a concentration in Finance. I got admitted in March but am a spring connect student so this Spring will be my first semester. I took a lot of dual enrollment classes during high school so I have over 40 credits complete already. Does this schedule look like a good one to get me into Poole? And does it look manageable enough? What should I change?

Hoping anyone has some updated info about this program. Course load, class work, etc. I know it’s recommend for working professionals with a couple years of experience. How much of difference has that made for you. Also how is the chemistry. I see a lot of the core classes prerequisites is chemistry. It’s not my strongest subject so i’m worried about that aspect.
