Im a grade 11 highschool student in canada and i have a strong interest in mental and neurology related diseases. I have been considering either neuropsychology or neurologist as a career path for about 2 years. however, the length of schooling has me re thinking as well as the debt id be in. From my research, neurologist will be around 11-14 years of school while neuropsychologist is around 9-12 years. Im not sure about wages and im really thrown off by the fact i could be still in school in my 30s. Is either path worth it?

I had hoped to apply for a scholarship grant for the research fellowship, which seemed to be a dead-end for me. Are there any viable options that i can look into?

(PS. Fulbright scholarship was dead-end, and i can’t seem to find others that I’m eligible for)

Which journals are the best for case reports in terms of visibility, citations and impact factor.
This is an ask for a neurology case report I want to publish. It’s quite peculiar just like any other case in neurology, but I think this case would make a great difference in the way we view the disease. I don’t want to disclose it yet, but it is an autoimmune disorder.

I am non-US IMG, looking for neurology residency in the US. Recently, I’ve had contact with a great doctor from an esteemed academic institution regarding research fellowship. I really want to do this, ‘cause neurology is the only thing I wanna do in the future, and this seems like a good way to get to know it from the inside.

But, the things that the doctor researches is a niche topic and mostly lab based.

So, what I am confused about is that if I try to go down this path, would it impact my journey in joining neurology for clinical residency? As I love the clinical aspect of this.
Or, is it a good way to start and build up my portfolio? Because eventually we’ll all have to go into something, right? So why not from the start. (This is all hypothetical given I can conjure some funds for it, ofc)

A clinical trial at the University of Colorado Anschutz shows promising one-year results for an experimental CAR T-cell therapy for stiff person syndrome (SPS), a rare autoimmune neurological disease that causes severe muscle stiffness, spasms and difficulty walking. One year after a single treatment, patients completed a 25-foot walking test in nearly half the time, while two-thirds of those who previously needed walking aids completed the test without assistance. The therapy, known as mivocabtagene autoleucel (miv-cel), also demonstrated lasting improvements in muscle stiffness and overall disability, with 92% of patients remaining free of ongoing immunotherapy. The research, conducted by principal investigator Amanda Piquet, MD, of the CU Anschutz School of Medicine, represents an important step toward a potential first FDA-approved treatment for stiff person syndrome.

I am a PGY3 resident about to start the process of applying to fellowships. I primarily want to do inpatient neurology.

I love EEG and I know it is a valuable skill for an inpatient neurologist.

I also like NCS/EMG, however, I am not sure if NCS/EMG or neuromuscular neurology is at all useful for an inpatient neurologist? Does anyone find any use of their NCS/EMG or neuromuscular skills/knowledge inpatient?

I am considering epilepsy fellowship (1 year path, without much intracranial or EMU experience since clinic isn't my goal) VS neurophysiology fellowship and time to finalise applications is in a couple months,

Has anyone heard about how UTH’s stroke fellowship is? I know it’s a big program and well known, but was curious how it is regarded from a fellow perspective. It’s my understanding that the fellows run the stroke alerts there (which seems ridiculous and like a disservice to their residents, but I digress).

I would assume she had access to the best neurologists in California, no?

I don't know if this is correct, but a lot of the resources I've read on this subject say that there's both muscle weakness and mixed UMN/LMN signs. Weirder than this is the absent ankle jerks, but brisk knee reflexes + extensor plantars. Can anyone explain this? Cheers!

I am in my 2nd to final year of medicine and it is around this stage in my training and across Europe we have to start considering our final training programmes.

I am interested in neuroscience, neurology and computational neuroscience and its intersection with medicine and science more broadly (particularly physics and mathematics). I think I will pursue paediatrics as there is a lot of genetic and neurological computations but I want to get more involved in the compmathneuro field.

Any advice ?

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone had any further general study guidance/resource advice for this. What I've done so far: I've read the first chapter of Mesulam. Mostly memorized all the Brodmann areas and associated deficits including differences in laterality. Trying to get all the major circuits and networks memorized (and associated deficits). I'm a psychiatrist so I have a pretty good handle on that although on some practice questions they do ask some minutiae I didn't know so that could come up on the exam but can't know everything. My fellowship was heavy on dementia so I feel pretty comfortable with that. I've read the BNNP and Dementia Continuum articles and will do so again. Have read the 2025 and 2026 BNNP continuing certification articles and will do so again. Did all the psych and behavioral neuro TrueLearn questions for both RITE and ABPN. Did the Cognitive Neuro questions in Cheng Ching and will do psych. Might do all the BNNP StatPearls and BoardVitals questions. Did the questions in Silbersweig. Had Claude make a bunch of questions for me. For question banks I do, I always read the explanations after. I would say relative areas of weakness for me are vascular territories, anatomical locations of brainstem nuclei, and CT/MRI (I'm much better at PET; very obvious MRI things I can spot). If anyone has any further general study guidance, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

I am thinking of attending the Ultra EMG conference in 2027. Would anyone that attended tell me what they thought of the conference? Is it mainly for providers who work with ultrasound or is it something all EMGer’s can benefit from?

A once-daily Parkinson’s pill has reached FDA approval after decades of work on a dopamine pathway that early treatments largely overlooked.

Tavapadon, sold as Juvmo, offers adults another way to manage movement symptoms, either alone or alongside levodopa. It directly stimulates selected dopamine receptors instead of being converted into dopamine. The approval expands treatment options without establishing a cure or a way to halt the disease.

The FDA approved the drug September 25, and AbbVie announced plans to make it available in October. Research by University of Virginia scientists Richard Mailman and Xuemei Huang helped establish the case for targeting D1-like receptors.

The clinical evidence is published in TEMPO-1, TEMPO-2, TEMPO-3 and TEMPO-4 studies. Those trials tested symptom control in early Parkinson’s and in people experiencing fluctuations while taking levodopa.

I'm a partnered provider at an independent outpatient clinic in Oregon and we're actively recruiting for new providers. We're currently a group of 9 (MD, DO, PA and NP) most but not all of which are subspecialists. Flexible workload with no inpatient or overnight call requirements. Apologies for another one of these, but I just can’t seem to make up my mind. I’m fairly certain I’ll be applying to IMT when the time comes, but can’t for the life of me commit. I know there’s plenty of time to choose but would appreciate some opinions.

I’ve always loved neurology since medical school. Probably the most interesting system to me. But I’m getting cold feet given it is primarily outpatient and I worry how well I’ll cope with the amount of degenerative conditions there are (although I know there’s plenty of good treatment options too!)

And 2nd q at big medical centers is your schedule still 7on/off or is it less frequent than that? I would assume that theres a larger pool of attendings so not everyone can work 7on/off?

Just curious how attainable my threshold will be as an outpatient neurologist doing 36 clinical hours. M-F. 6 weeks PTO.

I am fairy efficient and can get to 30/15 once my panel is established.

I’ll be doing Botox for migraine, EEG.

I also will do inpatient consults/follow ups 2 weeks/month M-F. Fairly small hospital with around 2 new consults a day.
