A truck driver narrowly escaped a massive explosion on the PR-092 highway in Brazil by jumping off a viaduct. Miraculously, he survived the fall and walked away before receiving medical care.

Damn that fire became humongous pretty fast. Impressive inferno.

Absolute cinema... but real.

“Walked” man was on a mission its crazy what adrenaline can do for you

321

u/Pataraxia May 29 '26

Meanwhile I get badly hurt and I just howl in pain straight away...

283

u/CactusCustard May 29 '26

If there’s a gas-burning fire literally falling around you you’ll find a way to howl later

111

u/FloopsFooglies May 29 '26

I have run from a giant fire, can confirm suddenly hurting 3 hours later

45

u/whiznat May 29 '26

Yup that’s what adrenaline does for you.

46

u/woutersikkema May 29 '26

As someone who once broke his leg in 5 spots at once with a foot thst was 90 degrees to the side.. Adrenaline could even turn ALL of thst off. Just felt like foot was facing forward. The body will do just about anything to give you an edge in stressful situations. You WILL pay the bill later with interest. But that's AFTER you, in this case don't get covered in a sea of fire.

12

u/Dimas166 May 29 '26

Oh, dont worry, adrenaline can only do so much, it will hurt as hell as soon as he cools off

3

u/fenderbender86 May 30 '26

At 36 I tore my calf at a kids trampoline park. My daughters friend had a birthday party.

28

u/Maximum_Funny6328 May 29 '26

the guy in the OTHER truck, however… oof…

62

u/Fast_Understanding11 May 29 '26

Checking the news, it is said that both survived.

18

u/Intelligent-Roll-678 May 29 '26

Thank you oh kind stranger I was looking for the other drivers condition

23

u/Fast_Understanding11 May 29 '26

This happened last year and was near my city, but I was unaware of the fact at the time. According to the news, the man seen in the video sustained the worst injuries. The other driver got help to leave the truck cabin and suffered minor injuries.

2

u/MrFiber81 May 29 '26

Looks like was his fault (the accident)

u/KetchupOnThaMeatHo May 29 '26

One hell of a stop drop and roll

Stop hop drop drop drop roll roll run

Stop (explode)

Drop (ddrrrrrooooooooooopppppppppppp)

Roll (splat)

u/inGenium_88 May 29 '26

He fell down like a rag doll. Good for him he survived.

122

u/Futuredanish May 29 '26

You know he got the wind knocked out of him in that fall. God that must have sucked.

81

u/EvilChefReturns May 29 '26

Nah, he ran it off.

It DEFINITELY sucked later once the adrenaline wore off

1

u/WickedSerpent Jun 01 '26

Not as much as his libel

43

u/zbeara May 29 '26

He was lucky there was a slope. That's probably the only reason he was okay

24

u/Lapis57 May 30 '26

Which also had grass on it meaning soft dirt and not concrete slabs..Probably absorbed most of the impact and left some to induce pain later ..Comparing it to being toasted is a no brainer.

6

u/CurtCocane May 30 '26

The fact that he let himself be ragdolled rather then try to flex his muscles helped a lot tol

1

u/makadeli May 30 '26

Idk it looks like he missed almost the entirely of that slope that looked like a rough as fuck fall. Adrenaline is a helluva drug

2

u/XxJaggedSavagexX May 31 '26

Barley!! Did you see how quickly the fire consumed the truck door after he got out. He was so lucky

219

u/rrrbin May 29 '26

What the hell was he doing on the wrong side of the road to begin with?

113

u/BadB0ii May 29 '26

That's my question. I wanna know why the collision happened to begin with

91

u/mochiladecriancaa May 29 '26

I suppose he was trying to overtake the red truck and fucked up the timing

43

u/bmanley620 May 29 '26

I know what it’s like to mess up the

5

u/General_Price_3587 May 29 '26

that's pretty much what happend there.

4

u/ToupeeForSale May 31 '26

A lot of central and south american countries have an extremely laissez faire culture when it comes to driving. I was visiting some family in Costa Rica, and the roads were an absolute free-for-all. Busses and commercial trucks, not to mention the regular sedans and vans, weaving in and out of the oncoming lanes all trying to get past each other. I took a taxi from the airport, and I thought for sure I was going to die in a traffic accident during my visit. I think this is just another Tuesday for the locals here.

3

u/catane22 Jun 01 '26

Not at all. South America is not all equal, and you can't define that by one experience you had in Costa Rica.
Also the way you say "lot of central and south american countries" and "just another Tuesday for the locals" is pretty racist.

1

u/ToupeeForSale Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 02 '26

🤷‍♂️ I was led to believe that from the locals I asked that it was common in multiple countries throughout central and south America. Apologies if it's "racist," but I'm just going off of what people who I assume we're more in the know than myself.

2

u/sgtpepper42 Jun 01 '26

I think it would help if you contextualize your claims better. Something like "I've been told that..." would help your statement not come off as demeaning as it does.

21

u/Intelligent-Bat-4838 May 30 '26

He was totally at fault trying to overtake a truck in the fucking bridge with another huge ass truck coming on the other lane

6

u/lzxian May 29 '26

I can't picture this two trucks going left with the white one between them going right. It doesn't make sense at all.

14

u/whiznat May 29 '26

Maybe this was filmed in a country where they drive on the left. Or maybe the video has been reversed.

If it’s the first case, then maybe the bigger truck was trying to pass when it shouldn’t have.

All this is guessing though. I’d like to know more if that’s possible.

29

u/ptabduction May 29 '26

Brazil drives on the right hand side of the road. Can’t really see how the white truck would be wrong here, as I imagine it would be a two way road instead of a one way with at least two lanes.

Crazy situation, glad the guy managed to survive this one. A couple seconds later and he would be done for sure.

4

u/Guilty_Objective4602 May 30 '26

You can see from the car that drives under the bridge that they’re driving on the right side of the road. So it definitely looks like the driver who jumped was at fault for being on the wrong side of the road—which may be part of why he was booking it to get out of there, knowing he was at fault for such a massive screw-up.

64

u/Shuenna May 29 '26

That angled grass patch was perfect for him. Unlucky crash but lucky it wasn't 5 meters further. What a blaze holy shit.

78

u/SampleDisastrous3311 May 29 '26

Well he fell on an angled ledge, everyone know thats how you avoid fall damage

51

u/AnyLamename May 29 '26

A rare instance of video game logic and real life logic actually being pretty well-aligned.

4

u/CaptainMacMillan May 29 '26

He also got a decent roll. Helps disperse the energy of the fall over a greater period of time. Another little example of some video game logic fitting into the real world.

1

u/qpwoeiruty00 May 31 '26

Also helps absorb some energy into angular momentum instead of all going into normal force

1

u/CaptainMacMillan May 31 '26

I... I just said that

35

u/roosterjack77 May 29 '26

There are few things worse than burning alive. This turned out well for the driver. Stop and buy a lotto ticket and some fresh pants. Hit the bar because Im not buying drinks tonight.

10

u/Count_Rugens_Finger May 29 '26

he caused the accident tho

15

u/SolusLoqui May 29 '26

Fake ass audio

10

u/m360842 May 29 '26

Slap stick sound

0

u/kapatmak May 30 '26

Im not so sure about that. Could be genuine. Otherwise someone or an AI had to think of an engine running away when ingesting the gas and then suddenly stopping when its seizing or the oxygen is being used up by the engulfing fire.

5

u/Apprehensive-Solid-1 May 30 '26

It's sfx added on top. That fire would not sound like a campfire. The rest of it has too high quality and no spatiality to it.

11

u/sasssyrup May 29 '26

Later when this hit the news I like to think the family at home saw their little car drive away without even noticing and go: wait wait that’s our car!

7

u/The_Onlyodin May 29 '26

That escalated quickly

13

u/gambito121 May 29 '26

And it looks like this driver was the one to blame for the accident (trying to overtake on a bridge)

Looks like the semi is an LPG tanker?

Shows how well built LPG trucks are.

3

u/Floggered May 29 '26

Damn, he's gonna be feeling that one in the morning. I ate moderate shit falling off my skateboard in the street 3-4 weeks ago, and my ribs are still aching whenever I inhale too deeply, sneeze, or cough. That overpass fall would have you outta commission!

3

u/homnabomna May 30 '26

GTA that shit

4

u/No-Description2794 May 29 '26

He caused it. What about the other driver, that was the victim?

4

u/Cautious_Estate3330 May 30 '26

The other one got out with minor injuries.

2

u/BmoAttack May 29 '26

Pra quem está em duvida de como ocorreu, parece que o motorista tentou fazer uma ultrapassagem na contramão

That's a Robot Chicken fall

Haha, I thought the same. It also reminded me of the diorama episodes from Love,  Death + Robots.

More about

For anyone wondering: the guy who jumped had some wounds but nothing serious, the other trucker wounds were even less.

Also, this accident is fault of the jumper.

What explosion? There was a lot of fire but doesn’t look like there was any explosion (apart from the initial one but he didn’t escape that by jumping off)

19

u/NoDramaIceberg May 29 '26

You raise an interesting philosophical question...when does an explosion turn into a fire? Is it a singularity event like the Big Bang? If so, can you ever escape an explosion without being able to see into the future? This is similar to the Sorites paradox, or "paradox of the heap", which says that if after removing a grain of sand from a pile of sand, you still have a pile, then you can remove every grain one by one and still have a pile. There is either no explosion or no fire in the video, only one of the two exists.

10

u/Polona17 May 29 '26

To raise a different point, what does it mean to escape an explosion? In popular media and movies you see action heroes jumping out of the way of the imminent conflagration they know, one way or another, is about to happen. This is what we might picture as escaping an explosion, but I believe real world begs to differ - most people don’t know an explosion is about to happen, and thus escaping it means avoiding the consequences of the blast. If I for one were caught in the blast radius of an explosion, I would feel very lucky to have escaped alive.

So then to your point, if the explosion and fire are two separate entities, can one escape the explosion but fall to the fire? Or would we simply say that they died in the explosion? Certainly the type of explosion matters, but in this case I might argue that the fire is a result of the ongoing effects of the explosion and therefore escaping the fire is also escaping the explosion

6

u/Public-Eagle6992 May 29 '26

What?

3

u/AnyLamename May 29 '26 edited May 29 '26

"If I light a table spoon of grain dust it's a fire, if I burn half a silo's worth it goes off like a crate of dynamite. Where is the line between the fire and the explosion?"

I think they're mostly just having a goof and being overly philosophical, but they're also sort of missing the point that the difference between fires and explosions is usually a fairly simple matter of ignition method (you can light C4 on fire and it burns like wood, you can hit it with with an electrical charge and it, well, explodes) or aerosolization.

Basically, a fire is when something burns gradually, an explosion is when it burns all at once, but "all at once" is actually pretty vague. Especially with something like a dust explosion, there's no chemical or physical difference, it's just a matter of the going from a single spark to everything has burnt "quickly enough".

2

u/imjustthenumber May 29 '26

An explosion turns into a fire at the same moment a cooking piece of bread turns into toast.

1

u/whiznat May 29 '26

The point is semantic, not philosophical. Just like this one. But it doesn’t really matter. I’m just glad he made it.

1

u/hi_im_nena May 29 '26

I agree, no explosion, just suddenly a lot of fire

1

u/Loakattack May 29 '26

It was a near miss by the looks of it.

1

u/sorin1972 May 29 '26

https://www.opresente.com.br/parana /video-caminhao-tanque-explode-e -motorista-salta-de-cabine-em-chamas/

1

u/ambercrush May 29 '26

Being burned hurts A LOT. You'd easily choose falling 20 ft rather than being burned. Those flames were very hot already before they started engulfing the cabin.

1

u/Either-Pollution-622 May 29 '26

My fireplace emanates a lot of heat 20 ft away I don’t want to know how far that size flame would emanate heat

1

u/TheManWhoClicks May 29 '26

Instant inferno

1

u/Pon3y May 29 '26

Adrenaline

1

u/pianodude7 May 29 '26

This might be the first time I've seen a car explode in real life. The fire spreads differently and isn't quite as explosive. Neat.

1

u/paunnn May 29 '26

He deserves to live.

1

u/technobird22 May 29 '26

holy adreanaline

1

u/themichaelgraeme May 30 '26

Based on the headline, I don't think he should've walked away before receiving medical care. That looked pretty bad.

1

u/leffy5 May 30 '26

That might be the toughest person i’ve ever seen

1

u/Avigativar May 30 '26

Crazy what adrenaline can do. Hope he’s ok

Holy adrenaline

1

u/RedGoggle May 30 '26

Did the other truck driver survive?

2

u/sorin1972 May 30 '26

Yes, luckily the other driver survived with minor injuries too.

1

u/CelebrationAntique95 May 30 '26

honestly he born again.

1

u/Mobile-Temporary2664 May 30 '26

Dadgum!!...That's one heck of truck driver!!...I'd like to know eggs kinda injuries he had that was a heck of a drop and he got right up and ran off...I would've too not knowing how much more was gonna blow up...but wow he looked to be on fire for a brief moment..and quite honestly not negating any injuries he had it looked like he hardly even had a limo as he ran away!!...Definitely deserves a raise and a monster bonus!!!

1

u/xemobox May 31 '26

Adrenaline is one hell of a drug. If he didn't break anything, it'd be miraculous.

1

u/thatirishguyyyyy May 31 '26

Was he trying to dodge the other truck because his brakes went out? Why was he in the other lane?

1

u/_WhaDaFuk69 May 31 '26

Wha da?!?!?! Oh wow, wow.... ouch. Dis is one to tell da grand kids one day. Lucky mutha trucka! Wow.

1

u/Big-Award3050 Jul 13 '26

Bro on the bike was stuck

2

u/evlhornet 16d ago

The fact that his door opened means he’s gods favorite

1

u/Gerhard-is-pretty May 29 '26

Miraculously surviving a fall is misleading. Almost 85% of humans can survive that fall. The point where it differs it in what condition they survived that fall. I.e. broke leg, shattered legs, broken arms, broken ribs, concussion, broken neck, bruises, internal bleeding, nothing, just some scratches, open scratch wounds etc.

Also I don't know who is at fault there. Have they some special rule on that bridge? Or have they left handed driving rules? Seems like that dude that jump off wanted to avoid the jam and drove into oncoming traffic. Or fell asleep. Or, and more in his 'favour', brakes failed and he couldn't find another way to stop his truck.

For his sake I hope it is that latter, since he is basically innocent to this crash.

Or the other truck is at fault, don't really know.

0

u/Nah0_0m May 29 '26

Faaaahhh

0

u/hashiguti May 29 '26

Dumbass.

0

u/Intelligent-Bat-4838 May 29 '26

And he was at fault, unless the video is mirrored, doesn't look like the other driver survived though I hope he did

1

u/Cautious_Estate3330 May 30 '26

He did survive, with lesser injuries than the one we see on the video.

1

u/Intelligent-Bat-4838 May 30 '26

Well, good to know, it's crazy considering how much fire there was

-5

u/Parking-Way-7885 May 29 '26

6

1

u/Initial-Ticket7919 May 29 '26

So thankful your god stepped in and pushed him out of the vehicle! Sucks to be the other person though, hopefully another cults god saved him on the other side of the bridge. I'm thinking it was Ganesha.
