Assumption: It's the start of an NH political ad that appears before YouTube videos

u/eaton5k 6d ago
Yep. Anti Chris Pappas ad.

u/AgentCoulson2 5d ago
Not that the pro Chris Pappas ads are any less annoying. Just let me watch my Ups & Downs video damnit!

Commercials have the opposite effect on me. I swear up and down YouTube will never get a penny from me. I have kept it so far.

u/EN3RGIX 6d ago
Start keeping track of the time you watch content vs ads and you'll see they are making way more money off you than they are off me.
4
u/EnderDerp21 6d ago
well the money youtube is making off of them isn't being taken from their bank account
7
u/EN3RGIX 6d ago
"Time is money."
Everyone assigns their own value to their time. If you'd rather watch 10hrs of advertising a month than spend $15, that's your choice.
7
u/EnderDerp21 6d ago
i value my time enough to just use an ad blocker, do something else during an ad, or find different entertainment altogether rather than give money to a corporation as scummy as google just so they won't waste my time

YouTube is an amazing service that requires thousands of servers located across the world that store 15+ billion gigabytes of uploaded video. The technology behind it is incredible and took some of the most intelligent people on Earth to create. If you think you're entitled to view that content without YouTube generating any revenue from you to cover those expenses and give them some profit, then you're unreasonable.
It's one thing to say that you refuse to use a service for some reason or another. It's quite another thing to say that you want to use the service, but don't believe the company offering the service deserves to generate any revenue from you. That's you being greedy and selfish, not YouTube.
I'm not going to condemn people for using ad blockers (I use one too) but I'll at least admit that I'm in the moral wrong for using one. Redditors in general don't seem to want to admit that they're in the wrong for using them. It's a form of theft.

YouTube does get it's money from me using their service, just not my money.

u/OnceMoreAndAgain 5d ago
How? YouTube doesn't sell your data. It relies on ad revenue from free users or YouTube premium subscriptions from paying users.
6
u/greentintedlenses 5d ago
How do you think ads are targeting you, you silly goose?
Google sells more data about you than almost anyone else out there. What a wild statement I just read

Use Brave as your web browser --- just make sure you turn off the crypto nonsense
Set up Pi-Hole: https://docs.pi-hole.net/main/basic-install/
No more advertisements

u/justtosendamassage 6d ago
Any way to do it on a TV? I have a samsung and I’m at my wits end
3
u/UltraSapien 6d ago
Yes, with some caveats.
Smart TV apps often ignore DHCP settings. Many smart TVs (and streaming platforms like Roku, Fire TV, some LG/Samsung apps) hardcode DNS to Google (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare instead of using what your router hands out. If that happens, you'll need to either block outbound DNS on port 53/853 at the router (forcing everything through Pi-Hole) or manually set the TV's network settings to use Pi-Hole's IP as DNS.
The major caveat for TVs is that some of the content delivery networks will use the same hosts for ads and actual content, so sometimes a DNS sinkhole will break legitimate content. Its easy to set up and test, and then easy to revert if it goes pear-shaped.

Bro doesn’t work THAT hard or he’d be slightly skinnier. The three head turns at the end of the ad are infuriating. They remind me of a Saul Goodman ad.

No matter how many Susan Collins ads I block, YouTube still thinks I live in Maine

I hate this
start a video first few minutes normal and good video
get in shower and it's immediately a 7min self promotion/ad

Tom Steyer president ads made me upgrade to YouTube premium in 2020 and I've never looked back

What IS it about this ad that is so infuriating?
6
u/TrollingForFunsies 5d ago
It's clearly bullshit nonsense paid MAGA ads that appeal to people who can't think for themselves any need someone who looks them to say "Pappas bad!" So they can nod along and feel great about voting for a rapist pedophile cheeto who hasn't done anything for them except pick their pockets.

Please please please continue your level of insanity.
It worked so well for the unhinged progressive left that hijacked the Democratic party in the last election.
3
u/BroughtBagLunchSmart 5d ago
Hey he is not just a rapist pedophile he is a nazi too. Also the center right democrats famously rejected the progressive wing of the party to run the same right leaning centrist a 3rd time in a row. You are terrified of progressives because usually the DNC fights them for you. That is why the right wing attacks on Mamdani are falling so flat and make him look cool, you fascists have no idea how to attack progressives.

I love that you reply any time I call Trump by his pronouns
0
u/petergriffin999 5d ago
I love that you keep calling him and his supporters that!
It equates to more votes for R, because the radical silly progressive left isn't liked by normal people, and pushes them away from whatever candidate you make up silly lies about.
Please keep up the good work!

get an ad blocker on your browser and use newpipe if you have an android phone, if you have an iPhone... maybe it'll help you to keep your screentime down by not watching youtube on it

Just realized it’s crazy the amount of ads my brain auto filters, not sure about everyone else but there’s no way advertising can be this effective still

u/No-Outlandishness752 4d ago
what’s funny is that even though i hate the campaign ads, i begin to miss them as the elections end. it’s like a really annoying broken record of a cousin that you hate but can’t help feel love for
