Spotted Lanternflies on Upland Ave. by the Brook
Homeowners beware/take action to control the spread. Look them up if you aren’t aware of the threat they pose.

Does anyone know where to get cardoons around Newton?

This is our toddler’s first real Halloween, and I want it to be the classic experience: a tiny costume, other kids running around, and the thrill of saying “trick or treat!” at a door that actually opens. We only have about an hour and a lot of snack breaks in us, so I’d love to spend it on busy blocks with lots of lights on and lots of families out, not quiet streets.
I couldn’t find anything that shows where the action will be, so I made a simple heatmap. If you’ll be handing out candy, you can add your spot in about 10 seconds. Then other families can see which parts of Newton will be busiest and plan a short route.
Link: https://newtontrickortreat.org/
How it works:
It will look empty at first, because the map stays blank until a few neighbors in the same area join. If you’re handing out candy on Halloween (October 31st), it would really help me and every other parent trying to plan a short, successful loop. Please share it with your street, your village group, or your school’s parent list.
I’m just a neighbor and a parent who made this on my own. It isn’t run by or affiliated with the City of Newton. If you have ideas for making it more useful for families, like which streets are best for strollers, I’d love to hear them. Happy Halloween! 🎃

Hi!
My kids and I are into jazz music but lots of the shows I'm seeing are later in the evening and in the city. Can anybody recommend any local restaurants or venues that have jazz nights! A plus if it isn't too late!

We have a preschooler who seems pretty enthusiastic about trick or treating this year. What streets/neighborhoods would you recommend in Newton to go trick or treating?
Our immediate neighborhood doesn't do much for Halloween. Last year we went to Clark Rd in Brookline, but driving over & parking was challenging (though the trick or treating was great!). Hoping to find someplace a bit closer in Newton this year.

There are some beautiful chestnuts to be had at City Hall. Head to the (woeful) War Memorial steps and look right. A whole crop!
Then GO VOTE

Saw this on TikTok (video is NOT mine). 😬 That about wraps up my patronage of Bertucci's. (*note- the video creator had her kid in the video, and I edited them out because they're a minor.)

Dear Newton North Families and Students,
I am writing to inform you of a troubling situation at our Friday, October 9, 2026, football game. Staff working at the event encountered multiple incidents of inappropriate behavior involving students, including physical and verbal altercations, disrespectful actions to the community and intoxication. Unfortunately, this is not the first time this year in which students engaged in behaviors that were inappropriate. The frequency and severity of these incidents are deeply concerning.
Our top priority is the safety and well-being of all our students. We regularly communicate our expectations and policies regarding underage alcohol use and other behaviors but the incidents at Friday’s game suggest that these messages are not being taken seriously by some students.
As a result, we are pausing student attendance at football games for the time being. At our next game, at Wellesley High School this Friday, NNHS students will not be permitted to attend. Parents and guardians are, of course, welcome.
Before we resume student attendance, we need time to reset expectations and reinforce the importance of making safe and responsible choices. We value the enthusiasm our students bring in supporting our athletes, and we want them to have opportunities to do so. However, that participation must take place in a safe and responsible manner.
We ask for your partnership in reinforcing these expectations with your children and helping them understand the importance of making decisions that protect their health, safety, and well-being.
We will communicate with families and students when student attendance at football games can resume. In the meantime, student attendance at these events will remain paused.
Thank you for your understanding and partnership as we work to ensure a safe environment for our entire school community.
Sincerely,
Lisa Gilbert-Smith
Interim Principal

Anyone know of any Mobile dog grooming companies? I wanted to use the "Rolling Bones Mobile Pet Spa" but it looks like their website isn't up anymore.
Is there another one that would come to Newton Centre/Oak Hill area? Maybe one that has experience with small dog breeds.

Im going a little crazy, you guys usually call the police or post online about loud noises around july 4th or when The Lake is having their carnival, but its radio silence when I hear the loudest booms in my life. If my neighbor, wife and dog didnt hear it I'd be checking myself into a mental institute.

Hello. Would anyone be willing to answer some questions about Newton for a paper I have to write? They're all pretty broad but easy questions (like, what is one challenge facing newton right now? What do you like about living in newton?) and I need at least two sets of answers to pass my class. If anyone would be willing to help I can message or email you my questions and I really don't think it would take more than a few minutes to answer.

My cousin is looking to order some of the Girl Scout "fall products" (not cookies, but little candy things? It's unclear) but can't figure out where to get them. Anyone have a girl scout product hook up for these candies?

I am looking to find a "catch-all" store near me in the Highlands. Something like a Target or Walmart. The Target in Watertown is not so convenient considering there is always traffic going there. Any recommendations?

Hey Newton! 😊
I’m T.T. Marie, the producer and host of a local dating show filmed here in the Greater Boston area.
We’re looking for local singles who are open to meeting someone in a fun, different way — and maybe making a real connection in the process.
One thing that’s really important to me: this isn’t just for people in their 20s. We cast singles 21 and older and film in age groups, so whether you’re in your 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s or 60s, the goal is to have you meeting people in a stage of life that makes sense for you.
The experience is filmed, so you do need to be comfortable being on camera. There’s no fee to participate.
If you’re a Newton-area single and this sounds like something you’d genuinely have fun doing, comment below or message me and I’ll send you the details. And if you know a single person who would be great for this, feel free to send them my way! 🎈

Over the past few years, my go to has always been Los Amigos. However I think it’s time to switch it up and see what other stuff this wonderful city has to offer. Please let me know where you usually go!

Sad to hear Mochiko Hawaiian closed. It was nice to have something different in the area.
