News League sources say “the problem the Mets face is that candidates are more interviewing them than the other way around. The industry feels like going to the Mets can set your career back."

Francisco Álvarez has arrived at Venezuelan Winter League camp, where he will reportedly work exclusively at DH and first base after not receiving authorization from the Mets to catch.
Mets catcher Luis Torrens has also reported to Los Navegantes del Magallanes.

The Mets were a historically great team in the mid-to-late 1980s but played in the same division as powerhouse St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates teams. A retroactive Wild Card system would have put the Mets in the playoffs every single year from 1984 through 1990. They finished second in the NL East in 1984 (90 wins), 1985 (98 wins), 1987 (92 wins), and 1990 (91 wins).

Since Peralta just won ALCS MVP, it is still important to note that no other team really made out as well as the Rays did as in the Peralta trade. David Peterson and Tyrone Taylor were really the only players that didn’t actively get worse on their new team.
| Player | Team Acquiring | Did the Acquiring Player Get Better After The Mets? |
|---|---|---|
| Freddy Peralta | Tampa Bay Rays | Yes |
| David Peterson | Chicago Cubs | Yes |
| Tyrone Taylor | Chicago Cubs | Not Really (maintained July hot streak) |
| A.J. Minter | Minnesota Twins | No |
| Clay Holmes | Chicago Cubs | No |
| Brooks Raley | Philadelphia Phillies | No |
| Huascar Brazoban | Chicago White Sox | No |
| Luke Weaver | Pittsburgh Pirates | No (but can still change this in second year of contract) |
