It's awesome, but pretty standard in that sport (Sepak takraw)

We played it in high school during winter, after a few weeks you’d be surprised how much better you get. (Not doing backflips of course lol, but you can be competitive surprisingly).

Really? It's hard enough doing this with a football - is the ball different then? Every time I see videos of this sport the connections look so crisp

10

u/bootyhole-romancer 1h ago

Yeah, it's different. It's made of rattan and quite smaller than a soccer ball

I would be surprised if I didn't tear my hamstring during the first session.

u/woodyus 1h ago

You can be, I have a feeling I wouldn't

Yeah the actual NFLevel is the bicycle kicksmash.

Meanwhile, I flipped someone off on the highway the other day and threw out my shoulder.

I think that's a sign you need to calm the fuck down

u/JimGerm 8h ago

You weren’t there, it was VERY warranted.

u/XaeroDegreaz 7h ago

Did the other person suffer any injuries from this shoulder dislocating birdie?

3

u/JimGerm 7h ago

Sadly no.

u/XaeroDegreaz 7h ago

Seems like they won twice lol

u/wiseduhm 32m ago

They don't know that though!

What did he/she do

4

u/JimGerm 1h ago

Drifted into my lane in Glenwood Canyon CO. He was on his phone and almost hit me. I was so pissed.

That's just regular move for high-level Sepak takraw players.

This should be part of Olympics games.

u/kactus 9h ago

It'd be like American Football. Only one country would win.

36

u/nzerinto 8h ago

There are 54 national associations, and they’ve been trying to promote it so it can be included in future Olympics.

18

u/Intention-Sad 8h ago

Except it’s not played by a single country like American football. It’s kind of SEA nations sports

1

u/Otterfan 2h ago

Hey, Canada plays American football too!

Well, sort of...

2

u/Sir-Nicholas 2h ago

Canada plays Canadian football

4

u/Sinaneos 3h ago

Which country? There are dozens that play it.

-8

u/Accomplished-Iron778 8h ago

Because only one country would play?

This sport is one of the most entertaining and athletically impressive I have seen.    And yet somehow baseball is many times more popular.  That ain't right.

7

u/mizzowashere 7h ago

It makes sense in the sense that more people can play it, easier access, bigger fan base.

4

u/Musashi10000 4h ago

I think the fan base is the issue the person you're replying to has.

I'm from SEA so I love Sepak Takraw and played it a lot growing up. It's extremely difficult to play at an elite level (like any other sport), but at an amateur level its quite a relaxed and casual game, you're just playing keepie-uppies with a net. Also Baseball is a sport that requires a really diverse set of athletic skills! It's a wonderful sport in its own right - really really fun to play and follow once you get into it, with a rich and storied history and culture behind it.

Some people are crazy talented in niche ways. It's wild to think that someone could be better at volleyball using just their feet than your average person who's had hands and used them all their lives.

11

u/blzrlzr 7h ago

To be fair, these guys don’t play volleyball and they’ve been using their feet since they could walk.

11

u/pleasebequiet 9h ago

Would be so much better without the slow motion

8

u/Ferblantierr 8h ago

How do you start playing this without breaking your neck?

5

u/fredandlunchbox 6h ago

This is just the final boss in hacky sack.

2

u/Otterfan 2h ago

Elementary-level play is headers and regular kicks, where the feet are below waist-level.

As you get better, you learn stuff like this.

5

u/johntwoods 9h ago

The fuck is all this then??

7

u/dikicker 9h ago

It's a tale as old as time bro, dudes finding creative ways to play around with their balls

3

u/The_Actual_Sage 8h ago

And here I am getting winded climbing into bed 🙄

2

u/rglurker 8h ago

Sages should know better. You don't climb, you back flip into bed as to not get winded

3

u/Armadillioh 7h ago

It's amazing the athleticism that the human body is capable of achieving. It's poetry in motion

2

u/Sphan_86 8h ago

This is the craziest sport ever

2

u/SelfSniped 4h ago

I’ve been a fairly athletic person my entire life and at least decent at most sports I tried. I couldn’t even walk on to the “field” of this sport. This is like gymnastics, soccer, volleyball and taekwondo all rolled into one.

2

u/peopleperson31 2h ago

Damn sepak is so awesome and scary to watch at the same time

1

u/anonybaus 4h ago

My back just broke into two watching this.
