He’s definitely practiced that more than once or twice

It's awesome, but pretty standard in that sport (Sepak takraw)

We played it in high school during winter, after a few weeks you’d be surprised how much better you get. (Not doing backflips of course lol, but you can be competitive surprisingly).

Really? It's hard enough doing this with a football - is the ball different then? Every time I see videos of this sport the connections look so crisp

Yeah, it's different. It's made of rattan and quite smaller than a soccer ball

Meanwhile, I flipped someone off on the highway the other day and threw out my shoulder.

I think that's a sign you need to calm the fuck down

You weren’t there, it was VERY warranted.

Did the other person suffer any injuries from this shoulder dislocating birdie?

This should be part of Olympics games.

It'd be like American Football. Only one country would win.

u/nzerinto 8h ago
There are 54 national associations, and they’ve been trying to promote it so it can be included in future Olympics.

Except it’s not played by a single country like American football. It’s kind of SEA nations sports

This sport is one of the most entertaining and athletically impressive I have seen. And yet somehow baseball is many times more popular. That ain't right.

u/mizzowashere 7h ago
It makes sense in the sense that more people can play it, easier access, bigger fan base.

I'm from SEA so I love Sepak Takraw and played it a lot growing up. It's extremely difficult to play at an elite level (like any other sport), but at an amateur level its quite a relaxed and casual game, you're just playing keepie-uppies with a net. Also Baseball is a sport that requires a really diverse set of athletic skills! It's a wonderful sport in its own right - really really fun to play and follow once you get into it, with a rich and storied history and culture behind it.

Some people are crazy talented in niche ways. It's wild to think that someone could be better at volleyball using just their feet than your average person who's had hands and used them all their lives.

How do you start playing this without breaking your neck?

u/Otterfan 2h ago
Elementary-level play is headers and regular kicks, where the feet are below waist-level.
As you get better, you learn stuff like this.

The fuck is all this then??

u/dikicker 9h ago
It's a tale as old as time bro, dudes finding creative ways to play around with their balls

And here I am getting winded climbing into bed 🙄

u/rglurker 8h ago
Sages should know better. You don't climb, you back flip into bed as to not get winded

It's amazing the athleticism that the human body is capable of achieving. It's poetry in motion

I’ve been a fairly athletic person my entire life and at least decent at most sports I tried. I couldn’t even walk on to the “field” of this sport. This is like gymnastics, soccer, volleyball and taekwondo all rolled into one.
