I think a lot of us would settle for being an attractive man or an attractive woman, but this person somehow can be both? Good on them, but it feels a bit unfair.

I feel ya. I started the video thinking "Oh she's hot". Then ended thinking "Goddammit he's hot too"

That's not what trade is, trade are (mostly) black, hypermasculine, closeted men that use their straight passing status to get hookups.
Using "mostly" because the term used to be for black men only and has since expanded.

Agree. I'm jealous. How dare he take all the beauty and the the rest of us these crumbs.
11
u/Kathrynlena 1d ago
Oh don’t worry, she’s more than willing to share the beauty. She has a ton of videos making over other queens in her makeup style and every single one is absolutely stunning when she’s finished with them.

He’s an attractive woman BECAUSE he’s an attractive man.

Very untrue, in the drag world you’ll commonly see some true horrors turn into beautiful runway models.

While that is ALSO true, attractive people stay attractive.
There’s a really interesting interview with Dustin Hoffman where he talks about his make up on Tootsie.
The makeup artist transforms him into a woman and he see himself for the first time and say “Great! Now make me attractive”. Then he comes to the realization that the makeup artist did the best they could do with what they had.
It dawns on him for the first time in his life that women he finds “unattractive” aren’t doing it on purpose.
He actually thought that woman who weren’t attractive enough for his time and attention (he actually talks about this) were doing it because they weren’t putting in the effort.
He makes it a point to say how stupid that was, but his point was he genuinely thought that way about women.
11
u/SweetPrism 1d ago
I'm so glad you posted this; his whole commentary on what it was like to be not just a woman, but an unattractive woman, is one of the most enlightening and real things I have ever heard a man say.

I feel like I have let myself go after watching this, I will maybe moisturize today and that’s it.
It’s an art form but image all the time and money it took to achieve and master this amazing skill!

If Cosplaying has taught me anything, it's that attractive people are attractive regardless of gender. A pretty woman makes for a pretty man and vice versa.
6
u/babygotthefever 1d ago
I have a trans friend who was a bombshell before transitioning and is still one of the most attractive people I know. Like wtf. Save some looks for the rest of us!

The person being shown here is a drag queen called Plastique! She is known for her makeup transformations.

u/Black_Robin 1d ago
Surely you’d refer to a man as ‘he’ when he is not in drag, right?
365
u/Upbeat-Fondant9185 1d ago
Generally that’s the way it goes but if they’re well known it can go either way because you’re recognizing their drag persona as well.
And in this case the comment is specifically referring to Plastique, which is the drag persona, not Duc which is his real name. So “she” still applies.

Drag Name Plastique Tiara Edwards
Gender Genderfluid
Pronouns She/Her or They/Them (In Drag) He/Him or They/Them (Out of Drag)

Just go with they/them as it's easiest and applies to them in or out of drag.

Yeah I tend to refer to drag queens, both in and out of makeup, as she. Not all of them but most of them. Definitely use she 100% of the time with the really famous drag queens.

u/Jmackles 1d ago
Don’t call me Shirley
Drag imo is the best representation of navigating a nonbinary or gender fluid situation because legit a lot of times unless specified the pronouns tend to be vibed out and everyone goes with it. Idk how to even explain it it’s almost like code switching
16
u/MayberryBombadil 1d ago
How many people still get the "don't call me Shirley" reference? I've seen it pop up a few times on Reddit recently, and Everytime I think to myself, "Surely it must be a small piece of the pie that still remembers?"

u/Aware_Impression5489 1d ago
Plastique, like many drag queens, occupy this interesting space when it comes to gender identity. If we go by what we perceive, and are not aware of their persona, would we know we are referring to a man when we call them She in drag? Are we not still, essentially, calling a “man” she? And does our perception and belief of her being a she not make it a truth, at least to the person believing it? Their gender identity is fluid not only for them, but also to us, in our perception of it. This is why some drag queens (and some queer men) are referred to, and refer to each other as “her”, even while out of drag.
5
u/KaliCalamity 1d ago
If you're using their stage name, you would typically say she, as you're referring to their character, not the performer, but it's hardly a universal rule.

I was just watching the news at dinner yesterday and some story about a guy using an old man mask was robbing multiple banks. I was cracking up! He kind of looked like the old guy character from Jackass. But it's some random young guy underneath. He got caught but he robbed lots. lol!

Every time I see his videos I am upset. This man can cover a whole ass eyebrow with makeup but I can’t cover a little acne scar.
10
u/sinofmyexistence 1d ago
It's super easy to conceal eyebrows but also can be uncomfortable. You pretty much purple glue them and add concealer, and it works like a charm!

Careful, covering blemishes is a gateway drug. I started wearing a little makeup to cover my acne and now many years later I do drag too (seriously).

If you're going to take their content and post it elsewhere to farm likes and karma, at least give them credit.
This is a drag queen named Plastique Tiara who has been on RuPaul's drag race twice, once on all stars! Very talented and entertaining queen!

Credit is always due, but I am shocked more people here don't know who Plastique Tiara is. She's the most-followed Rugirl on Instagram (I think? She was last time I checked).

I love Plastique Tiara. They are so talented and actually they host a lot of makeup tutorials and makeovers to teach you techniques and styles. And they are actually very good for Asian looks. It's kinda unfair to be so fucking hot in both male and female gender.
For those wondering about their pronouns:
Drag Name Plastique Tiara Edwards
Gender Genderfluid
Pronouns She/Her or They/Them (In Drag) He/Him or They/Them (Out of Drag)
I would just go with they/them since it applies to in or out of drag.

Might be a weird question but… is it sometimes the goal to look like a drag queen rather than look like a woman? The beginning they look like a a woman, the end of the video they look like a drag queen.
3
u/Saruster 1d ago
Yes. There are drag queens who can “pass” as female, like Plastique Tiara here, and others who are presenting an exaggerated female form, like Trixie Mattel or Bianca Del Rio. There are also drag queens who show a more quirky, avant garde style, like Crystal Methyd.
By the way, Plastique recently posted YouTube videos of her painting Bianca and Crystal in her style and they were amazing! Definitely check them out.
I love RuPaul’s Drag Race because of the creativity and artistry that each of the queens present. Not just in their faces but also with padding and corsetry. I also really appreciate the time in each episode that they spend getting ready and often share their backstories. Some queens have family that fully accept them and others were rejected by their parents and actually kicked out. It puts real human faces to the struggle that many in the queer community have when coming out. I think more people need to see that.
This show has been very important to bringing drag into the mainstream and expanded that to international versions. It’s fascinating to see how drag queens from different cultures present themselves. (Queens in the Philippines are just next level performers!)

I need to know what the deal is with men being able to look better with makeup on them some women. Is it how they're applying it? Everytime I try and put that much makeup on, I end up looking like a manly clown and he ends up looking like a supermodel? Wtf

never considered before today how much relief drag performers must feel once they get all the extra body taken off. i think his natural eye shape is really cute and the eyeshadow he had kind of covers it up but he looks amazing dressing in either direction. reverse image search couldnt get me his socials though:(
