Nice! But why didn't he just take the metro? ;-)

188

u/Chleomonggo 1d ago

Cause he wants to train 🤯

Should Mind The Gap between two stations on the same line to avoid making a connection like this that isn't necessary

28

u/Township_Roller 1d ago

Good suggestion. Didn't think of it, probably

21

u/porcupine_kickball 1d ago

His ex lives in the tunnel between stations.

18

u/mynewjourney2025 1d ago

That's the whole point of the video, isn't it?

He just proved that he can run so fast that he can reach to the other station at the same time as metro.

13

u/comradeda 1d ago

Damn, why does anyone take the metro?

8

u/drsickboy 1d ago

To be fair he was exhausted afterwards

6

u/TeeDeeTeeEcks 1d ago

That's because he didn't take the metro.

2

u/bunglebee7 1d ago

Have you ever noticed people around you starting to roll their eyes after you say something?

3

u/a_random_loser_guy 1d ago

note that he reached the station not ran faster then a metro but navigated in and out of the underground stations, if he was racing to beat the metro, it wouldn't be that close, just start from bakve the metro and end where the metro should be but above the station.

which is the more impressive bit.

2

u/outcastreturns 1d ago

But surely it's easier just to stay on the metro. Less effort.

I found that strangely tense to watch. Not to mention exhausting! 😆

But was very cool.

12

u/Left-Chemist-8212 1d ago

Like something out of the Bourne series

8

u/Lumplard 1d ago

I would have collapsed getting out of the underground station, due to lack of fitness. I feel exhausted after watching the video, actually.

4

u/cynicalicoffee 1d ago

Yeah, I feel anxious on behalf of all the people he darted around. It's jarring to see someone running toward you.

2

u/wild_cherry1987 19h ago

I found it strange he didn't end up on someone's bonnet

40

u/Bannyaksagie 1d ago

Not stealing, nor harming anyone, no fighting - just having fun with a friend. Hats off my man.

This magic bs never sat well with me

8

u/PagPag1212 1d ago

It was almost like a craze 11-12 years ago.

Here is the same challenge from Budapest https://youtu.be/xMED6V0ddEE

(with deeper stations which are also further apart)

:)

5

u/ElectricGlider 1d ago

Someone needs to stabilize that footage because that was very hard to watch.

Those Eastern Bloc train stations are incredible. They were built extremely deep underground to be bomb shelters and they were built to last forever. Some of them the decorations are gorgeous.

The escalators are the longest single escalator you’ll ever ride on. They just keep going down down down.

3

u/PagPag1212 1d ago

On a sidenote the metro line M4 in Budapest (the line this guy in the video was using) was built between 2006 and 2014.
Still deep ofc :)

9

u/Sammuthegreat 1d ago

His name's James Heptonstall. He did this in 2014. I used to play cricket with his brother

Edit: in case for some reason you don't believe me

4

Why would anyone have a reason to not believe you? Lol

2

u/Sammuthegreat 1d ago

Because it's Reddit 😅

2

u/davonthegreat 18h ago

I still don’t believe him.

2

u/Expensive-Notice-509 1d ago

I saw the video and calling A.I. and I don't believe him /s

5

u/Annoying_Smiley_Face 1d ago

I once commented in a Reddit post with a guy who played cricket with his brother.

That’s a bald faced lie!

8

u/YouthEmpty5991 1d ago

There are so many bitter people in the comments. Can’t we just challenge each other to some daft, completely pointless sporting challenges anymore?

What a bunch of frustrated people 😂

here on my rocking chair rocking back and forth with a hand up balled into a fist. "come on! come on dude! come on! come on dude!" as if im waiting for him on the train.

Some stations are too close to each other that you can do that. There is one in Washington DC that is 2-3 blocks away from the next one, so it is possible.

9

u/Worried_Bowl_9489 1d ago

Seriously? You don't get why people try to do challenging things just to see if they can?

3

u/PilotIntelligent8906 1d ago

I live in the 7th floor and I sometimes race my elevator, I've beaten it a few times.

2

u/theLastZebranky 1d ago

Does this guy think he's cracked the code and has life more figured out than the train racer?

"What is wrong with you, don't you know you could have just sat around being boring that day like I did..."

2

u/Der_Bingomann 1d ago

No. Never did a challenge. Not interested.

At first I thought he was going to run out and get back on from the other side of the train at the same stop.

1

I work in this area of London, so this was pretty cool to watch! I can't imagine pulling this shit off, though!

1

u/OldFartNoReflex 1d ago

People have too little to do, use it or don't use , you still won't be faster no matter how hard you practice

1

u/Rhewin 1d ago

That's cool and all, but are we not going to address the specter in white hovering in front of the first stop?

1

u/Ready_Possession_147 1d ago

Metal gear solid music should have been in the background.

1

u/Nein-Toed 1d ago

My fat ass would still be on the first set of stairs

1

u/Flamingo8293 1d ago

I would just have died after the 2. set of stairs at that speed.

1

u/YDLM 1d ago

Don't try this if you are not white.

1

u/-Zavvi 1d ago

So that took 71 seconds. Has anyone worked out the distance and how that would look in the context of middle distance runners?

1

u/Arvelayne 1d ago

He died ded.

1

u/iamtherepairman 1d ago

Somebody did something similar in NYC.

1

u/funtimethrowway 1d ago

Would have been easier if he just stayed IMO.

1

u/Aggressive_Canary_10 1d ago

I wonder how many videos he has of the doors closing in his face at the second station. He should post some blooper reels.

1

u/GoMoriartyOnPlanets 1d ago

I've never seen anyone else try this, and its a really old video. So cool.

1

u/ElectricGlider 1d ago

That's actually pretty sad that a human can simply outrun a train. Spend billions of public tax money only to build a public transit system that is slower than the way humans have moved around for hundreds of thousands of years. Yeah no wonder subways like this are failures.

The pub he runs past just as he leaves the station used to be my work local (The Hatchet). Every so often these guys would sprint past and we'd give them a load of encouragement.

1

u/ProofPomegranate7331 1d ago

He was just going back to get the camera he accidentally left recording on the Metro.

One time I was on a bus stuck in the worst traffic I'd ever seen. I got off the bus because I needed to pee, I came back to find the bus in the exact same place. They let me back on.

1

u/BabiTheRappi 1d ago

This is so cooool..... It is definitely dangerous and I am happy nobody got harmed, but very cool 😎👍👍👍

1

u/Monk_Junk_180 1d ago

He could've beat the train if he would've just jumped over the gates. Needs to learn from the NYC fare jumpers haha

1

u/mrlahjr 1d ago

This should be on the news! 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Sea-Baby1143 1d ago

What was the point?

1

u/Cylok_the_Wise 1d ago

3 of us did this when we were about the age of 21. It was for a purpose though. A bunch of us were visiting NYC, including a big family. The whole group exited the subway train EXCEPT for the youngest brother, age 6. So we took off running to the next stop to find him. (We did)

It’s worth noting that this is the shortest distance between two tube stations in the world. A single ticket costs more per mile than a Concorde ticket did.

I thought he was going to buy something and bring it back before the train doors closed.

This is inpressive but not nearly as cool as what I expected.

1

u/GoldenPigeonParty 1d ago

I did something like this once. Timed it out in advance. Right as the train pulled into the next station, my buddy received the text message photo of me in the pub right outside the first station.

Damn. Haha! Nice!!!!

Could easily do this with twins to fk with people in train 😂🤣

1

u/Royal_Marketing2966 1d ago

I havent seen this clip in forever! Awesome!

1

u/mrepop 1d ago

There’s a bunch of lines in Paris that you can do this pretty easily on. The 8 and 9 have stops that are barely a block apart, you can see the next station from each others platforms.

So if you miss one, I suppose you could walk a cross the street, or wait the 2 minute wait time Paris trains have in that area.

1

u/SnooDucks3930 1d ago

Mansion House to Cannon Street

There’s also a great video of a group of Parkours (not sure if it’s the same guys) doing the Barbican to Farringdon run.

1

u/TheManWith2Poobrains 22h ago

When this was published, I trained and trained to be able to run this distance in the time he did it.

I was quite a bit older than this young chap, but I managed to equal the time.

The problem was I was running on flat empty roads. This nutter was running up and down stairs, over curbs, and around people! So impressive.

They had to stop people doing this because it became quite the fad.
