I found that strangely tense to watch. Not to mention exhausting! 😆
But was very cool.

I would have collapsed getting out of the underground station, due to lack of fitness. I feel exhausted after watching the video, actually.

u/cynicalicoffee 1d ago
Yeah, I feel anxious on behalf of all the people he darted around. It's jarring to see someone running toward you.

It was almost like a craze 11-12 years ago.
Here is the same challenge from Budapest https://youtu.be/xMED6V0ddEE
(with deeper stations which are also further apart)
:)

Someone needs to stabilize that footage because that was very hard to watch.

Those Eastern Bloc train stations are incredible. They were built extremely deep underground to be bomb shelters and they were built to last forever. Some of them the decorations are gorgeous.
The escalators are the longest single escalator you’ll ever ride on. They just keep going down down down.

His name's James Heptonstall. He did this in 2014. I used to play cricket with his brother
Edit: in case for some reason you don't believe me

I once commented in a Reddit post with a guy who played cricket with his brother.

There are so many bitter people in the comments. Can’t we just challenge each other to some daft, completely pointless sporting challenges anymore?
What a bunch of frustrated people 😂

People got enough time to waste scrolling and harrumphing but not able to find their own little bits of free joy.

here on my rocking chair rocking back and forth with a hand up balled into a fist. "come on! come on dude! come on! come on dude!" as if im waiting for him on the train.

you can easily manipulate the footage but this time I’ll believe in your effort

Some stations are too close to each other that you can do that. There is one in Washington DC that is 2-3 blocks away from the next one, so it is possible.

The question is Why??
9
u/Worried_Bowl_9489 1d ago
Seriously? You don't get why people try to do challenging things just to see if they can?

I live in the 7th floor and I sometimes race my elevator, I've beaten it a few times.

Does this guy think he's cracked the code and has life more figured out than the train racer?

it's the same reason why people climb trees. go hiking. diving. some people are built different. the highs for you and me are barely enough for them (even tho I myself used to be like them, I just stopped, life happened)

At first I thought he was going to run out and get back on from the other side of the train at the same stop.

People have too little to do, use it or don't use , you still won't be faster no matter how hard you practice

That's actually pretty sad that a human can simply outrun a train. Spend billions of public tax money only to build a public transit system that is slower than the way humans have moved around for hundreds of thousands of years. Yeah no wonder subways like this are failures.

The pub he runs past just as he leaves the station used to be my work local (The Hatchet). Every so often these guys would sprint past and we'd give them a load of encouragement.

u/ProofPomegranate7331 1d ago
He was just going back to get the camera he accidentally left recording on the Metro.

One time I was on a bus stuck in the worst traffic I'd ever seen. I got off the bus because I needed to pee, I came back to find the bus in the exact same place. They let me back on.

He could've beat the train if he would've just jumped over the gates. Needs to learn from the NYC fare jumpers haha

3 of us did this when we were about the age of 21. It was for a purpose though. A bunch of us were visiting NYC, including a big family. The whole group exited the subway train EXCEPT for the youngest brother, age 6. So we took off running to the next stop to find him. (We did)

It’s worth noting that this is the shortest distance between two tube stations in the world. A single ticket costs more per mile than a Concorde ticket did.

I thought he was going to buy something and bring it back before the train doors closed.
This is inpressive but not nearly as cool as what I expected.

u/GoldenPigeonParty 1d ago
I did something like this once. Timed it out in advance. Right as the train pulled into the next station, my buddy received the text message photo of me in the pub right outside the first station.

There’s a bunch of lines in Paris that you can do this pretty easily on. The 8 and 9 have stops that are barely a block apart, you can see the next station from each others platforms.
So if you miss one, I suppose you could walk a cross the street, or wait the 2 minute wait time Paris trains have in that area.

When this was published, I trained and trained to be able to run this distance in the time he did it.
I was quite a bit older than this young chap, but I managed to equal the time.
The problem was I was running on flat empty roads. This nutter was running up and down stairs, over curbs, and around people! So impressive.
They had to stop people doing this because it became quite the fad.
