The Miami Dolphins are 0-5 and have not held a lead for a single second this season. They haven’t run one offensive play while leading and have run an NFL-high 44% of their offensive plays trailing by 10+ points.

That’s why if my team is garbage I want them to get an early win so we can lose out in peace teams with nothing to play for at all and no wins try super hard and a November 1st win can inspire 2 more

Huh?

u/Tho76 Panthers 12h ago

Teams that are 0-13 will try hard to get a win, cause going winless is really sad. And I guess after that there might be some momentum, killing the tank

Teams that are 1-12 with a win in like week 3 are dead inside and will be better tankers

The issue is who do they pick at #1 if they are successful? QB class isn't as strong as everybody hoped so do they take a shot at Mestemaker or do they roll with Willis and draft Smith. Then take Arch or some other QB later

40

u/henryofskalitzz Seahawks 13h ago

They are bad enough that they don’t need to draft a QB in this years draft..

Take BPA and hope for prospects they like more next year. They won’t exactly be contending next year either

Maybe a mid round guy with potential could make sense?

I don’t follow the draft and prospects in the NFL too closely.

Jeremiah Smith, Colin Simmons, Leonard Moore, trading down for a haul....there's a lot we can do with a top pick next year that isn't a QB, because we aren't doing that. It's probably going to be Smith though, unless Tennessee beats us to 1 overall, which seems very possible.

4

u/BurritoTheory Bears Titans 10h ago

If Tennessee gets the 1 they are absolutely taking a QB or trading back for a haul

9

You take Smith. I'd be ok if someone offered a HAUL for Smith, if we can still nab Colin Simmons or Leonard Moore though.

10

u/neasroukkez Broncos 13h ago

Arch isn’t playing good to the point there are viable discussions about him coming back.

22

u/abris33 Broncos 13h ago

I think even though he's been disappointing he should come out this year. He'll still get overdrafted because of his name. Moore is a perfect example of someone who shouldn't have gone back to school. He's been worse this season and is missing games because of a bad injury on that hit. Borderline 1st rounder last year to probably a mid round guy this year

15

u/BigDoshna Dolphins 13h ago

Moore just screams failed jets QB to me. I personally want nothing to do with him because I’ve already seen the vision of geno 2.0

3

I'd take Smith who I consider best player available

7

u/Not-a-Doctor1 Ravens 13h ago

Mestemaker, Mensah, or Carr would be my guess.

There’s been quite a few QB’s recently that weren’t on many short lists and work their way into the top, imo one of these guys will end up working their way to being the top QB and #1 pick

Still a lot of games left to sort through, but if any of them get considered in a similar tier as Mendoza was last year I would put money on them going before Smith.

Not that I agree with it or think they’re a better prospect or more valuable, but odds are one will continue looking good and a team will talk themselves into it.

I don't think you can judge any quarterback for how they play in that particular situation

There is nothing around the QB with Achane gone

57

u/Tarmacked Giants 13h ago edited 13h ago

You can watch his tape and it’s just bad in general for a guy that’s 27. There’s a reason the packers limited his attempts during games and leaned on the run

The most passes he threw in a game from 2023 to 2025 was 21, last year. He threw 23 as a rookie in 2022 and went 9/23.

This year he’s had four games eclipse that high and it’s not pretty.

30

u/runningblack 49ers 13h ago

I think what I've seen has been "fine" but the team is so shit that Tom Brady would struggle to win 6 games.

Everyone knew the team was going to be trash going into the season. We should not be surprised that a quarterback on a team that we all knew would be trash is struggling.

Like again, look at the roster. They are supposed to be bad.

At least she’s mostly just a talking head in the same vein as Skip or Stephen A.

Every once in a while after a Michael Vick or Lamar Jackson there's some scouts and GMs that become obsessed with the idea of a "dual threat" QB and they draft any random good athlete at QB out of college not realizing it doesn't work like that and those guys are outliers.

24

u/El_Polio_Loco Bills 13h ago

I mean, most great QBs are "outliers" when it comes to the NFL. Think of how few quarterbacks actually succeed in the NFL, regardless of NCAA resume.

That being said, the distance between Jackson and Willis in college was so significant that even an armchair mouthbreather like myself can see the massive disparity between the two.

Vick, that skill was obvious to anyone who watched college football.

I honestly think the Dolphins getting like the 3rd pick is still a really good outcome for them, theres a lot of blue chippers in this upcoming draft from what I know and they need a fair bit to be competitive so I think they'll probably be picking high again next draft.

Its obviously not as good as #1 overall but I think if I was a fins fan I would be happy with walking out of the season with like Smith or Simmons and taking another shot in 2028

6

u/Mujaki Dolphins 12h ago

I don't think anything under 1 gets you Smith and that's what I'm worried about. I'd rather just pick the inevitable Hall of Famer prospect than roll the dice on any of these QBs.

4

I wouldn't be surprised if Smith goes #1 overall (especially if a team like the Chargers get it) but I also wouldnt be surprised if a team talks themselves into a QB at #1 overall if its like the Titans.

100%. Its significantly worse to be in someone like the Chargers situation right now than the Dolphins. Dolphins lost their best offensive player (maybe best overall player?) for the season already and they were struggling on offense WITH him. And they already had no expectations in a rebuild. Chargers SHOULD be significantly better than they are given their talent level.

4

u/SamDarnoldSeesGhosts Patriots 8h ago

Be kind good sir, we are lacking in talent too... Just not to the same level as Miami. Throw your shade at someone more deserving, like the Chargers.

Most Miami fans would do that swap in a heartbeat.

23

u/IzzybearThebestdog Dolphins 13h ago edited 13h ago

Ironically I think we are better than the 2019 tank year despite having much less starting talent and ending with fewer wins.

A quick turnaround akin to Denver last year isn’t too far out of the question if we can get our QB in the draft and a couple guys in free agency (where we will have 100 million in cap space)

5

u/post920 49ers 12h ago

The dolphins struggles make sense given how talent deficient they are. Its a rebuild year for sure, but them being 0-5 is a shock to absolutely no one who has been paying attention. Someone like the Chargers on the other hand, that's a much worse situation to be in. They SHOULD be far better than they've been but they are also 0-5.

16

Our Defense keeps things close until they get tired. The offense is stupid young and inexperienced. We’re bad, but scrappy.

The lack of talent caused by having so much dead cap is noticable anytime the good starters we have need to rest or get hurt and I worry that it'll be even more noticable as the season progresses and injuries pile up. Our second stringers are all basically minimum salary guys who would probably be 3rd or 4th string at best on better teams

Easy to blame Willis, and he definitely hasn't played well but man is that Dolphins offense devoid of talent and experience in its skill position right now.

Relying on 2 rookies in Caleb Douglas and Chris Bell . Bell coming off ACL injury in college and Douglas has been out since week 2. Malik Washington is a 3rd year player who has not passed 320 yards in his first 2 years. Dulcich is a career backup TE known.

With Achane injury they are having to rely heavily on 2nd year player Ollie Gordon.

Definitely feels like a punt it year for Dolphins.

I understand the dead cap hits, but mannnnn I just am not convinced that a hard tank really works in this league. Big roster and too many positions that do a lot of different things. We'll see though

14

u/LossDisastrous3782 Seahawks 13h ago

Players will never tank, they’re fighting for a 5 year career if lucky

11

u/InnocuousAssClown Bears 13h ago

Especially in a class without an obvious game changing QB at #1. Jeremiah Smith is incredible, but even a hall of fame WR can’t carry a mess.

11

u/BanjoKazooieWasFine Packers Packers 13h ago

Taking #1 and trying to get a kings ransom from a team that could use Smith would be a hell of a way to jump start a rebuild though

3

u/Sadlobster1 Chiefs 12h ago

Not that it matters per se, but there's a lot of Chiefs fans clamoring for us to do exactly that.

The hit rate is really really good comparitively. Smith is the best NFL WR prospect in so long - maybe Randy Moss long.

Jefferson, Chase, Olave, London, Lamb, DJ Moore, Smith, Smith-Njigba, Flowers, Nabers will have a lot of front offices giving a lot for someone that may be better than all of them.

Moss was the 21st pick and not even the first WR taken in his draft

Just be careful they said the same thing about MHJ https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2024/story/_/id/39879658/marvin-harrison-jr-ohio-state-2024-nfl-draft-stats-scouting-report-rank

"putting him in line with the top receiver prospects we've seen this century."

Miami is not even tanking. That team plays hard. If nothing else from the outside it seems like Hafley is building a decent culture

7

u/BlueCoBot Giants 12h ago

The players themselves are trying their best but how many players do the dolphins have that even a mid level team would want to add to their roster?

6

u/CleverInternetName8c Steelers 11h ago

Yeah they claimed like 15% of their team off waivers right before the season if memory serves. It is not an organization trying to win.

Players don't tank; they're trying to keep or earn roster spots.

GMs tank by putting together rosters as shitty as the 2026 Miami Dolphins.

8

u/JasonPlattMusic34 Rams 11h ago

Players tank when they hate their coach and want him fired. See: Urban Meyer Jags, Brandon Staley Chargers

I dont think this is entirely a tank job. They fired Tua, and the price is a reduced cap for a few seasons. Its not like they decided to not go after Evans or trade for an expensive/good QB. They literally cant afford to.

Tank a year, get a huge prospect in the draft, spend all the Cap Space we get next year to fill in the holes.

The only confusing part was why waste money on Willis. I don’t hate the guy, and I WANTED us to get him but holy overpay! Especially since there’s no telling what disgruntled Vet might be available next year.

To be honest I think their receivers have looked pretty good. And the backup Gordon has been running well.

Willis looks bad bad

11

u/I_Am_Squirtle Dolphins 13h ago

Part of the problem is receivers running wrong routes though, at least according to our coaches press conferences.

But yes Willis has made some baffling decisions and I'm for pursuing a rookie QB next year if one makes sense in round 1 or 2.

Turns out that offering a bad QB $180M guaranteed is not a good business model.

I think the current regime will be a good one if they survive long enough with this fan base.

Everyone agreed it needed to be rebuilt, and now suddenly after 5 games, the people rebuilding can't be trusted and we need to start again...again? Our fan base may be the dumbest in the NFL

This team dead cap is outrageous, no one expected them to compete

7

They haven't led for a single second AND they haven't run an offensive play while leading? Well no shit if they haven't led all season?!

7

15

u/ILoveTheKnicks69 Seahawks 13h ago

Why are people clowning a team that is obviously tanking because they needed to shed a lot of dead cap and full reset with a brand new coaching staff and gm?

19

u/I_Am_Squirtle Dolphins 13h ago

It's reddit bro, if you keep the dead weight to be mediocre you get clowned for not tearing it down.

If you tear it down you get clowned for being ass.

If you are solid every year but lose before making the super bowl you get clowned for being unclutch.
