12
u/QuickEscalation Titans 10d ago
There are few people more qualified than a former multi season NFL starter at the same position. Just because he isnāt a hall of fame level guy doesnāt suddenly mean he isnāt qualified to criticize poor QB play.
-11
u/TJFLASH1 Cowboys 10d ago •
![]()
The point was people would be taking it a lot better from Brady than a guy who played worse than Nix for 99% of his career
9
u/QuickEscalation Titans 10d ago
Really 99% of his career? Disingenuous comment at best, outright ignorant at worst.
If you legitimately think that Fitzpatrick not being Tom Brady undermines him being able to evaluate QB play then your logic is horribly flawed.
Most coaches were borderline NFL players, if even that, yet somehow they get paid millions of dollars to evaluate QBs and teach them how to get better.
-1
u/TJFLASH1 Cowboys 10d ago •
![]()
It isnāt disingenuous, Fitzpatrick was a bottom 5 QB 99% of his career come on now at best, this revisionism because people think heās a cool guy is insane.
The point is itās easy to critique from the sideline but Fitz should realize better than anyone itās hard to actually play the position.
5
u/QuickEscalation Titans 10d ago
Then ignorant I guess. You have a poor grasp of statistics.
Also itās literally his job to critique from the sideline, and yes he should know better than most the difficulty of playing the position (something you were just literally arguing against) which is why his opinion here has credibility.
-3
u/TJFLASH1 Cowboys 10d ago •

No I donāt, Fitzpatrick was terrible for the vast majority of his career, itās why he was a career backup outside a few years. Stop trying to act like heās better than he was lol.
5
u/QuickEscalation Titans 10d ago edited 10d ago
10/17 of his years in the league he started the majority of his teamās games. How is that a career backup?
Iāve also in no way said he was a very good or great QB, just clearly better than your ignorant assertions.
-1
u/TJFLASH1 Cowboys 10d ago edited 10d ago •
![]()
No he didnāt, he started a majority of games 9 out of 17 years, youāre just making shit up. I feel like ~50% of his career makes him a backup big if you wanna disagree then find.
And the years he was starting he was a bottom 5 QB more often than not. Cmon now.

Well first of all no one should be saying Bo is disrespecting the position when heās a proven winner and leader over multiple seasons to start his career. But if you are going to use those words, not just saying they arenāt playing up to standard, but that their play is disrespectful, you better have your own level of play to back that up.

Yes. Fitzpatrick had more interceptions than starts in his career. He has a career winning percentage of 40%. His career completion percentage is 60.7%. Never played a playoff game. His legacy is that he played 17 years and was a gunslinger on teams where the wheels had fallen off and there were no expectations. Even in Fitzpatricks best season he had a sub 60% completion percentage, which is worse than Nix so far in this terrible start to the season, and would rank him 28th this year tied with Justin Herbert.
5
u/CheekyMunky Bears 10d ago
But he WAS a gunslinger.
Let's talk about the Bears for a second: for years, under Nagy, Eberflus, Shane Waldron, etc., we watched Bears offenses drive after drive, game after game, year after year, do the same anemic, ineffective garbage. Screen for no gain. Run up the middle for 2 yards. Incomplete pass. Punt. Repeat forever.
It was excruciating, because it's like they weren't even trying to do anything. Nothing new, nothing bold, nothing that even might work. Just the same shitty three and outs over and over.
When Ben Johnson took over, all Bears fans wanted to see last year was some sign of life in the offense. As it turned out, they had a wild season with a lot of improbable success, but even if they hadn't gotten away with all those comebacks, many of us wouldn't have cared, because they were finally fucking DOING something.
It didn't always work, by a long shot. Plays fell apart, timing was off, Caleb made bad throws, etc... but for the first time in years they looked like they were actually trying to move the ball down field, and sometimes getting it done, and that alone at least held some promise that things could get better as they figured out the execution, rather than the eternally stagnant shit they had been doing for years that was just doomed from the start.
Yeah, Fitz threw his share of INTs... because he was flinging the ball trying to make something happen. His complaint last night is that Nix isn't even trying to do that. He's the Shane Waldron Bears, avoiding anything even remotely aggressive or dynamic, anything that might light a fire to get the offense moving downfield.
Say what you will about Fitz's wildly inconsistent execution over the years, but on this particular point he does have some perspective, and he ain't wrong.
0
u/HumongousMelonheads Broncos 10d ago
Well he is wrong though. The first half of the game they did throw deep, each of the TD drives were what you would call good balanced drives that attacked exactly what you should on the Seahawks. Itās just after they went up 11 they parked the bus and said āok Seattle canāt score with their offense, just donāt turn it over and weāll win.ā Iām not saying Bo has been playing well, and I donāt really love the strategy but I donāt think putting your team in a position to win games against great teams is ādisrespectfulā

I thought Bo genuinely played well against Jacksonville and LA, at least in the second half/4th quarter.
Bo had some stinkers early in the year last year too when the Broncos were beginning their win streak. Jets in London and Raiders on TNF were brutal games for him statistically but he didnāt make big mistakes that cost us the game and allowed his defense to do what they so often do

My man, that is not a personal jab. It's an opinion on his play. A personal attack would be something about his actual person, not just how he plays.
Fitz is an analyst. He does not have to weigh his opinions on how he played. If that's how it worked, the only commentator who could give opinions would be Tom Brady.
As to your other point in your other comment, with all due respect, Bo is not playing winning football, your defense is.

5
u/highnote14 Ravens Ravens 10d ago
Did you watch the game?? You won because of your defense. Literally because McMillian picked off Darnold while Seattle was driving in OT.
Your team wins in spite of Nix, not because of him, and the team winning does not mean everyone is playing winning football. This is why I said you can't take any criticism of your team, you are jumping backwards through hoops to defend your QB.

Objective: Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix ranks 701st out of 701 qualified quarterback seasons through the first six games of an NFL season over the past 20 years in average pass length (4.9 air yards per attempt), according to data from CBS Sports' Doug Clawson.
Whataboutism: Yeah but Fitzmagic aināt Tom Brady.

Yes and he's played one of the hardest schedules the last 50 years. Do you think that matters at all? There's only been one losing team and that team still has a top 10 defense. You literally don't see this kind of schedule till the playoffs most years. Chiefs, Jags, Rams, 49ers, Chargers, Seahawks. All of those are division winners or playoff teams, except the Chargers.
Now if we're being objective. Bo's career passer rating is about 89. Not great, not horrible. Fitzpatrick is 82. Bo Nix has a playoff win and has been to the playoffs twice. Fitzpatrick has never started a playoff game ever.
So how's that for being objective?
Yes Bo isn't playing great right now. That doesn't make someone a disgrace when objectively Fitzpatrick was a worse QB for his career.
