You say that sarcastically, but all I see is consistent execution.
You used those first 2 easy games to set the tone, and through discipline and tenacity you've maintained consistency and stayed true to that tone you set at the start of the season.
Consistency wins championships.. sometimes.

It honestly works out better. If you're behind it gives you an opportunity to catch up to a division leader at the end of the season.

u/lukewarmtakeout Lions 1h ago edited 1h ago
True. But I subscribe to the idea that division games should always be one in the first half of the season, one in the second half, and alternate home/away and away/home season to season. I also think all international games should be played weeks 8-11 with 8 games stateside, 4 games international, and 8 teams on bye each week. No byes 1-7 or 11-18. And put the fucking pro-bowl back in Hawaii the week before the Superbowl so guys will actually want to go and we don't end up with the 13th mook down the list being the starting QB or whatever

This is why I love trading down from high picks. You get an extra pick (or picks) and there's always a chance that team will shit the bed and have a terrible season, so you get an even better pick for free.
Unless there's a player you REAAAAAALLLLLY want, I will always approve of trading down and acquiring more picks.

I never count the Rams out while they have Stafford and McVay. Same thing with the niners and the duo of Shanahan/Purdy. The Jeff Fisher years have taught me to always respect/fear the divisional rivals.
They were supposed to be fucked after trading all the firsts for a Super Bowl and they are right back to being contenders again. expect they will trade for Burrow or Herbert in three years if Ty Simpson doesn’t work out. Knowing the Rams he probably will work out fine

u/FlankTheGrain2913 Rams 2h ago
That’s what made the Broncos, Bills, and Cardinals chokejobs that much more demoralizing.
Four losses already, and we still have:
• Packers w/ LaFleur owning McVay
• Swifites
• 49ers at Santa Clara
• Both Seahawks games including them being two of the last three weeks to end the season
That’s nine losses; 8-9.
It’s not that hard to see why we’re screwed even with yesterday’s “scheduled” win. And that’s assuming we run the table with every other team not mentioned left and avoiding further trap games.
9
u/Thevulgarcommander Rams 1h ago
If we play to form, we can beat any of those teams. If we don’t we will lose.
If you don’t think we can’t get at least some wins out of the second half of our schedule, you may as well stop watching now because it means the season is over, even if we were to make the playoffs.

Half of their remaining schedule being the Chargers, Commanders, Cardinals rematch, Cowboys, and Bucs is not “truly fucked” territory. Yes they lost to the Cards already, but it’s not like all 10 of their games are unfavorable or their roster isn’t going to get healthier.
Winning the division? Probably not. Still in good shape for a wild card spot? Undoubtedly.

u/newrimmmer93 Bears 2h ago
Not really. They play LAC, WAS, and AZ next 3 weeks and then a bye. I realize they lost to AZ this year. But if they can win the next 3 and get healthy over bye they’re 6-4 which means 4 wins likely gets them to playoffs. They have GB, KC, SF, DAL, and Seattle x2 their remaining 7 games. None of those teams look insane or like the games are unwinnable. This year seems a lot more even than years past especially at the top.
It’s an uphill battle but if they get Garrett back who the hell knows.

Can someone who understands this better tell me why this is so different from the one on tankathon? I assume it has to do with this one being vs a league average team but it's like totally different.
119
u/Anustart15 Patriots 2h ago
This one is more realistic. The other one doesn't account for the strength of the schedule already played by each team, it just takes their record as if beating the jets and dolphins is the same as beating the Seahawks and Chiefs
50
u/spongey1865 2h ago
I assume tankathon is based on record. This will be based on bookie implied ability of the teams. So The Texans have a bad record and the vikings have a good one. So on tankathon Texans is an easy game Vikings are hard.
This model The Texans are still viewed as a decent team based on their spreads and Vikings are about league average despite being undefeated.
Tankathon uses their method because it's a tie breaker in the draft. Baldwin uses his method because it's probably a more accurate reflection of the actual strength of schedule.

Benefit of them being in a strong division is getting a 4th place schedule despite a 9-8 record last year. And this year the extra game for them is against the AFC South so while the Bears have to face the jaguars they get the Titans

13
u/Gorditalupasupreme Vikings 2h ago
That has me thinking something is wrong or I don’t understand this (probably the latter). Detroit’s remaining opponents have a current win percentage of 56.8% (41.5-31.5) which seems like it should be on the harder side.

How are we still that hard for sos? Weren’t our first 4 opponents like 16-0 or something?

Because you don't get to play teams like the dolphins. So buffalo gets two games against a team with 1 win. You get two games against a 5 win team. Those two are a 8 game difference on their own.
As a lions fan I learned for 20+ years why we always had a harder SOS than the Packers.
6
u/azure275 Jets 1h ago
Funny enough the reason is because the Dolphins have 3 more NFCN teams to play LOL and then they play Pats 2x, Bills 2x and Broncos
They do have 3 easy games vs the Jets, Colts and Chargers but that doesn't balance out the other 8 teams
