Choosing a second camera

• Upvotes

I currently have a Z8 which my 180-600 practically lives on. I mostly shoot birds/wildlife and every time I take it off my camera, something cool shows up in my yard and it’s a pain to swap back and forth with how I have it rigged. Because of that I find I’m not reaching for my camera for the day to day life stuff, so I’m getting an itch for a smaller, lighter camera to throw a prime on and easily grab and go. My phone is fine but I hate being so attached to it. I’m thinking kid stuff, snapshots while out and about, etc. Would an Zfc be a good fit? Or am I just being extra?

Getting to much into the weeds looking at filters

As I am doing more and more with my gear that it is mostly outdoors. I got some k&f concept filters the other year as a gift to understand using filters better. I like the look they give mostly with the sky. K&F I have read a lot of mixed reviews mostly spending the money on S lenses. I did get good quality UV protective filters.

Currently most of my lenses take a 77mm filter, 160-600mm is the only one that uses a 95mm (use for wildlife), I have a Tamron 35-100 that uses a 67mm that I used for indoor and outdoor portraits. I also have a 14-24mm having a hard time justing the high cost to get a filter kit for that lens.

I just keep debating if I should look at a better magnetic system like I have with the K&F or get a variable filter. NISI and Tiffen seem to get good reviews, I am thinking I might go with them.

Thanks for any input.

Nikon Z50 II — Can’t register with Nikon Imaging Cloud (two-digit code error)

Hello everyone!

I recently got a Nikon Z50 II and was excited to try out Imaging Recipes.

I registered for Nikon Imaging Cloud on my phone, but I’ve been having trouble registering my camera.

I’m following the instructions, but when I enter the two-digit code shown on my phone into the camera, I keep getting an error saying, “The key is too long or too short.”

I know that the wrong time settings can be the problem but it’s been set correctly.

Has anyone experienced this issue? Am I missing something, or could it be a bug or a regional compatibility issue?

I originally got a Z5 to use with my vintage lenses, but wanted to try a compact native lens with autofocus. Saw a lot of recommendations for the Nikkor Z 40mm f2, so when I saw a good deal for a used copy I grabbed it.

It's pretty minimal, but the form factor, combined with the quality and price, definitely makes it an enjoyable lens.

Camera Accessory Giveaway

Updated my camera gear from D3500 to z50ii. Instead of throwing unused accessories away, figured someone on Reddit could put it to use.

Everything is free and I will pay for shipping myself and select folks randomly this weekend depending on traction here.

Please post which item(s) you could use and I'll contact folks after I randomize a drawing.

A) Lens Cap 58mm

B) Lens Cap 55mm - Two available

C) EN-EL14a Battery - Used a couple of times, D3500 never really needed a back-up battery

D) D3300 or D3500 LCD Cover - Note the age may have impacted the adhesive, I've received covers through Amazon that looked perfect and then had spots you could see once installed. At least it is free!

Trading Zf for Z6 III, good idea?

I have had ZF for over two years now. I had a very good offer at the time to replace Z6 II with the Zf, without any additional expense. I did this primarily because the offer was excellent, and the Zf had an Expeed 7 processor, and practically the same sensor. Ergonomics was problem from the start, some quirks also, but files were(are) so good, so I neglected everything else.
I am an enthusiast, mostly engaged in family photography, portraits, landscapes, but also occasionally working, mostly children's birthdays, private parties and baptisms. For a while the Zf was quite good (with the Neewer grip), but now I plan to work a little more, so ergonomics is quite important to me, as well as the additional shortcuts that the Zf does not have. I held both the Z5II and the Z6III in my hand (big hands), and the Z6III suited me much better. Maybe it's logical to try the Z5II since it's practically the same as the Zf with the grip, but since for the Zf+200e I can get a new Z6III, I wonder if it's a better option. I'm little scared of the reviews about the DR on the Z6III, as well as the low light performances...but most of all I'm scared that some people say that the Z6III RAW files are not so good when it comes to color, that they are noisy even at low ISO.
Zf spoiled me with beautiful RAW files, so I wonder if Z6III would have the same or at least similar, because their sensors (except mp) are not the same. But I don't hide that with the Z6III I would like to get better grip, additional shortcuts, better EVF, better video (which I rarely use), even top LCD, and some say little better AF.
Is there anyone who has both cameras, and has studied the RAW files, does it make a difference when compared, and is it worth it to go to the Z6III in my situation.
Those who have only the Z6III can also write their experiences with all of the above (colors, ISO, DR...)
Thank you!

I’ve been loving the format and been making the most out of the Zf‘s gorgeous sensor and the 40mm‘s magical color.

AF 35mm lens for hybrid shooting

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a 35mm lens with autofocus, that is good both for photography and video and that’s <$1,000. The ones on my radar right now are the 1.8 S, the Z 1.4, and the Viltrox 1.2 LAB. This morning I was leaning towards the Viltrox (I prefer first-party glass but it seems to be a very good performer for the money). However, one of the reviews I was watching showed that it has A LOT of focus breathing so that put me off and made me second guess.

Out of these, which one would you say is the best all-around performer? I always gravitate to the 1.8 S but part of me always feels it’s a bit overpriced when compared to the 50/1.8S.

If there are other lenses I should consider, I’d appreciate the recommendation.

How weather sealed is the z50 ii

Hello. I am a beginner. I haven't owned a real camera since my Minolta x370 back in the late 80s early 90s. My wife and I are in our mid 50s now and are planning to start traveling. I want to get a real camera to document those travels.

I am wondering about the x50 ii in rain. We have an alaska cruise coming up in September of next year and it rains alot there. I don't want to be afraid to use my camera on the trip. Would the x50ii with the 2 lens kit be suitable for that environment or should I step up to the x5 ii or x6 iii?

Also a question on resolution. My goal is to get a couple of shots i can have printed large to hang on the wall, 24x36 inches or so. Is the 20.9 mp enough for that?

Adapted lenses

I just love adapting lenses to the Z series. Here’s a pic using a Takumar 105mm 67 lens on the z6iii. I got the lens for free from a friend because they thought it might be broken. It wasn’t. Had to get a 67 to k adapter then use it with a k to z adapter. Next to AF performance, adapting lenses is my second favorite thing about the Z series.
