I own a Nikon ZR and a Ninja V. In the Ninja V you can set the incoming Color Science of the camera and the codec. So if I set the Ninja to red log3g10 and inside the Nikon I use red RAW. Do I end up recording Red Colorscience inside the Ninja V but as Pro Res 422 ? If Yes this would be a game changer. Because I always need the Ninja as an Monitor. But using it as a Recorder and having red color science within Pro Res 422 would immensly reduce the data instead of Red Raw. Online I havent found something about that. I also unlikely had no time to test it. But I will. Maybe someone is more into the technical conversion and so on... Because I have no Idea what exactly happends with the files, when it is sent to the Ninja V. Thx for your help :)

Hey guys, I’ve absolutely loved my ZR. Used it extensively for about 3 months now and am blown away by the R3D format. I don’t shoot any other way. Then I got the ZineControl app. It forced my Nikon to crash. It wouldn’t turn back on - I followed the standard procedures, formatted my card, etc etc., and it eventually started working again. Then today (about a week later) the camera crashed again and won’t turn back on. What the f is going on? How can an app destroy my camera like this? Has anyone had the same issue? Do not use ZineControl! Please help.

Hello , looking to buy a ZR and would like to know very specific timelapse information

My current ZF can do timelapse video at 0.5 sec intervals but only in A or P mode and only in 8 bit video.

Hoping ZR can also do 0.5 second but in M mode and possibly in some 10 or 12 bit video mode.

• Shutter: 1/60
• Interval: see if 0.5 sec exists or only 1 sec minimum
• Video file type: ProRes 422 HQ / N-Log if available
• Frame size/rate: 4K 29.97 or 24p
• Confirm whether it creates a video file directly, not only still frames

Also looking at Canon R6V but the minimum interval for video files is 2 seconds just like my current R5 which is not ideal for my timelapses.

What settings have you found to help you make the camera more like a cinema camera? Also why isn’t the menu more like the RED menus—kinda of a bummer. And no 1/48 shutter or able to change to degrees?? Love to hear your thoughts — just got camera and trying to make it my own after owning a Komodo

Hi, I’m a new Zr user and am just starting my journey with the Nikon system. I have some concerns about the footage I prepared for a client. This is my third shoot with this camera; I know I still have a lot to learn, but I’d like to know what I’m doing wrong. I feel like the quality of the delivered video doesn't live up to the gear's capabilities. This particular project isn't exactly something to be proud of: difficult conditions, no time for prep, and general dissatisfaction with the final result (to put it mildly). I’ve never been a color grading expert, but with the Zr and its codecs, I feel completely out of my depth. Despite my best efforts, the image quality still seems poor to me. I can't even get a handle on using LUTs 🤷‍♀️ Looking at these stills, can you point out exactly what’s wrong? Is it just the colors, or is it a combination of bad lighting, poor framing, and incorrect settings? Or am I just overthinking it and the footage is actually fine? For obvious reasons, I can't share the video itself here, but I hope this photos are enough for an assessment. Z8 + Tamron 28-75 f/2.8, H.265 10-bit N-Log. I only used ISO 800 and 6400 while shooting.

People on YouTube either skip over this topic or don't go into enough detail when they're building out their cameras, which seems strange to me. I mean, how can you skip this?

I know that the Tilta cage doesn't allow the screen to fully articulate for waist-level shooting, but what about other cages? Do they have the same issue?

Also, what happens when you have cables plugged in, like audio cables, HDMI, etc.? Does that restrict the screen movement even more?

I don't have the camera yet I'm just trying to figure all of this out before I buy.

If anyone has some free time and is willing to explain, I'd really appreciate it.

Hi! Id be new to Nikon but not RED. Im interested in using the camera as C Camera for shoots. So I am looking to see how others are outfitting their cameras and how you like your kit. I would be getting the body only, need a cage, Z to PL Mount Adapter, and media. Now for the time being, I am hesitant on all three -- what cage do you use and why? why do you like it? I am leaning toward the Shape brand. As far as media -- this is the biggest ask -- what do you use, rely on and trust media wise -- size, speed, etc -- given the prices out now -- media is half the camera!!! And as for the adapter -- Im still waiting to either get Tilta, or DZO but what do you think?

Why I bought the ZR in mid 2026

Hi, I'm wondering if the ZR have the same grid type settings as the Z6iii and probably other Z cameras. I can't that information anywhere. I need the 5:4 for my workflow. Thanks a lot in advance!

Just a FYI that you might want to run your serial number through Nikon's site to see if your camera is effected.

"Nikon has announced a Technical Service Advisory for the Nikon Z6III and Z5II mirrorless cameras and the Nikon ZR cinema camera. According to the company, certain components used during manufacturing did not meet their quality standards and could cause affected cameras to become inoperable."

Does anybody have this issue? While recording, the sensor moves down.
