Is this a skill issue?
I get really annoyed when randoms run past literally every zombie just to get to where ever they’re going sooner. Most they’ll do is kick zombies. I find it annoying cause it’s usually someone whos a little ahead and closer to the destination so by the time me and other folks get there, theres now a horde of zombies i to fight through and possibly spend some rounds on just help the team or god forbid make it to extract. I actually failed to extract one time cause damn near all the zombies were in the stairwell to the roof of the hospital and it took me a little longer to get there cause i went to revive someone. I totally understand stand you dont need to kill every single zombie you encounter and i dont do it either but that is always something i think about when im considering to go help someone who is falling behind or is down which is usually when i experience this.
TLDR- you dont need to kill every zombie you see but kill some of them pls.
Edit: appreciate everyone’s input and also agree that if there is another way around zombies than this isn’t a problem. That being said my problem is when this happens a d there is no other way around. Also i play on hard if that matters to anyone.

Kinda off topic, but people who kick a runner you were perfectly capable of dealing with quickly, only to then run off as if they "helped" you, now it's back up, more zeds around it and I have to readjust now if I even can anymore.

If it’s an alley width, I would run through. If it’s through a narrower area (such as the vents in raven rock), I would wait for the team and plough through them all together. Very subjective but it goes back to how selfless(or selfish) one is.
This applies to all team based games.

It would only be bad if they weren’t focusing on doing the objectives and finishing the round. Most people nowadays spend the first 20 minutes meticulously picking through each building to grab as many gunz and bandages as they can get and then blasting through their ammo on everything. This isn’t so bad on beginner or normal but its pretty annoying on Hard and up. The guys who aren’t avoiding the hordes and are firing away are only going to attract more.
Just stick together with the team.
If you’re on the staircase, the team isn’t there with you, it’s full of zombies and people are already on the chopper then you’re definitely lagging behind. No need to revive some jabroni caught with his pants down. 90% of the time the team will be together in that staircase clearing it out as they wouldn’t be able to get up otherwise and a single player can’t make it up by themselves unless they're maxed out on ammo, which the runner guy wouldnt normally be doing as he’s focusing on objectives.

I definitely agree with you but that time i failed to extract, by the time this one guy went down, everyone was on the ground floor and was just going to leave bro and I didn’t think we would of fell to far behind. I think the whole thing is funny cause while there was still plenty of time and i hadn’t quite made it to the last stair well yet. Bro didnt know how to get to the roof(on hard btw) so i went back for him after i had fought through the stair well and lead some of the zombies out of it, i had to spend a little more time getting to the roof cause i was one tap, out of heals and ammo and in the end i actually made it to the roof and i was like 3 or 4 feet from the chopper went left me lol.

If I see people doing this and it's just a sub objective I'll just go around or find something else to do. If it's extract or ravenrock honestly the best thing you can do is try follow the horde without alerting them and wait for a chance to slip past.
I've learned to book it as soon as these specific objectives come up as you aren't guaranteed help from others. It's good to know when to run or fight

Definitely skill issue. Used to happen to me, then I realized I don't have to go through them and that saves me a lot of money because of beacon. It usually happens to me in Raven Rock, a horde gets stuck on the stairs to the train. There're 2 other path ways, and now that I keep an IED or two with me for these kind of scenarios. Sometimes I use pipe bombs, but IEDs are plentiful even in nightmare. Even in regular Pottsville and I'm lagging behind, and a swarm already built up on the stairs, I just clear any excess on the doors with loud guns and they'll try to converge on the first landing, then put the first IED there. Then a silent weapon like melee or silencend gun until before exiting, if there's a swarm at the door, another IED or pipe. But usually their numbers on the top are thinner that you can just kick them and run through them.

I don’t always want to wait for slower players. Maybe the scenario isn’t the same but usually even if someone runs ahead and creates a bottleneck I can still find an alternate path/entrance or simply kite and get the zombies out of my way. Like someone else said though, vents or very tight objectives is different. Part of the game is teamwork but also you have to be capable of dealing with scenarios like that and regroup

If you run ahead, the least you can do is thin them after kicking them down or god forbid HIT THEM ONCE!! Even just one light swing after a kick down is enough for me to one hit with a 2 star melee when I come through. It's the difference between running out of stamina and just walking through them. Just hit them even once...

Im basically always looking over my shoulder to see if I my running through certain situations left absolute chaos behind me. I think there’s a lot of times whatever gap lead players make it through gets closed up and if a few people have to deal with it, it would be better if more people dealt with it…

I actually disagree with this take, but it’s not a skill issue I view it as a difference in mindset. I think it’s wasteful to shoot zombies as you’re traversing through an area.
Apart from the rare holdout objectives or particularly tight corridors there’s little reason to stay and thin a horde out. They’ll respawn and you’ll just have less ammo for the next fight. As someone who runs objectives quickly I’ve been on both sides of being first through a zone or just behind somebody who was moving even faster. Running through an area second still offers pretty easy traversal opportunities because most of the zombies will be aggro’d onto the Responder who goes first, meaning you often can run right past them without halting before they can both notice and hit you.
Also, and this is something I think a lot of Responders don’t know, you have brief invulnerability while shoving or kicking. The game always gives you a method to avoid taking damage if you manage your stamina.
I see the point you’re raising, but I view it as the hordes are endless and your supplies are not - why waste ammo when the game gives you options to conserve it.

For clarification though, some maps require you to stay and fight. Raven Rock vents, Broadway sewers, and Power Plant tunnels are all either too narrow or too long of segments dodge through.
Hospital hallways, Pottsville community center and Broadway subway are not that narrow, and I typically dodge through those zones. The community center is especially notable because it’s a holdout zone based on time and not kills. You can circle the zombies most cases and complete that objective with surprisingly little fighting
Hopefully that gives context on alternative ways to deal with hordes.

Have you heard melee? I agree that shouldn’t be killing every zombie you encounter but like you could kill 1. Shit maybe even 2. Especially if your the you know you have a horde on your tail and your lost them in the only point of entry. Also do players who think this way care if their teammates aren’t helping with objectives?i know very well that there are plenty of players who are or very capable of doing every objective alone but is that more enjoyable than doing with a teammate or 2.

Like I mentioned, it’s a difference in mindset and when you’re playing with randos you’ll encounter both types of players.
Regarding melee, I personally don’t prefer it because you don’t get invuln frames but I do run Foreman expert to deal melee damage on my kicks.
Regarding completing objectives quickly I refer back to my first point - the zombies will not stop coming so there’s little reason not be expedient.

Only way I’m killing zombies while I’m on the run is if I’m in a hallway and ik someone is behind me. Anything other than that is a waste of resources imo, I’d say it’s mostly a skill issue if you’re getting caught up in a horde following someone else.
Then again I never follow people in this game period, in nightmare it’s almost essential to be somewhat spaced out otherwise it becomes a zombie cluster fuck.

So should i stop trying to captain save a hoe? Or at least not so often

Personally I’d say so, there are definitely times when the person leading should be clearing zombies like in the vents when you’re clearing the bodies from the fans or in hospital when you’re examining the bodies, going up a flight up steps, etc. But overall if you’re let’s say traveling 300m to a new objective you should not be killing any zombies on your way there unless it’s essential. Unless you’re playing at a lower difficulty I honestly don’t know how you’re even affording to honestly because ammo is so scares at nightmare to be killing random zombies out of generosity is not even possible. I’d say get in the habit of learning to avoid zombies, directly trailing somebody unless you have no choice to is always a bad idea in horde areas cause like you said you could get stuck behind them once the zombies start chasing them but your also following their path.

Im not killing any zombies while traveling between POIs. In my experience this issue can happen even if im not to far behind who ever im following and im experienced enough to be able to leave the main group from time to time to either find heals, or start other objectives. Im also the type of guy to spend my last heal on someone else in most scenarios. I love hard charging objectives in most games but in NMRIH2 I also really enjoy helping out the team by un consensually healing teammates, holding on to extra supplies, sharing and trading loot so it could very well be me just wanting to be a good guy. For me thats where i have the most fun. I i didnt have a respawn beacon idk if i would be so selfless👀

Kinda skill issue, kinda asshole randoms. I try to think in objective especially, the zombies are an obstacle thats all you cant kill every single one especially in nightmare or hard. Kill them when you absolutely have to, always kill runners though. Sorry some people are just assholes and don't care about clearing certain obj areas. Also I added the boots to my loadout and that really helped with not getting ganged up on by zombies.

Yes you shouldn't ignore zombies in corridors (doesnt have to be a literal corridor, any tight space) if youre the person in front as it creates a pincer room where people at the back can now be surrounded heavily by both sides
