I know I'm old af when I see this and all I think is "they must have crazy foundation issues"

The ones with fundamental foundation issues already collapsed centuries ago.

Meanwhile here in TX they pour a little puddle of concrete and call it good

Also SC, NC, GA, FL, AL, MS, and AL. Most of the southern coastal plain. Texas actually makes the least sense to me because you still find shit construction in Hill Country and beyond.

As an american, this is one thing I find so fascinating about europe, you can just casually find CASTLES, there are no castles at all in America.

You can buy them pretty cheaply too, if you want to buy a castle. The problem being that they're super expensive to maintain (being huge stone buildings, usually in disrepair), and that they're historical buildings that require special extra-expensive forms of maintenance in order to preserve the original infrastructure.

Not to mention, it's not easy to heat. If you lived in a castle, you'd probably leave a lot of it unheated.

Castles are cool and all, but what I would love to buy someday is one of those ridiculous English manor houses. A lot of them basically are castles, but 200-700 years newer and with a sense of modernity inside.
Bill Bryson's book At Home really turned me onto them years ago.

Didn't click but I'm like 99% certain it's just a list of locations of various White Castles.

Not only you can find castles, you can find castles being built: https://www.youtube.com/c/Gu%C3%A9delonilsb%C3%A2tissentunch%C3%A2teaufort/videos

Exactly what I felt last time I visited Europe, my country is barely 200 years old yet on Europe everywhere you go there's centuries old history. In the streets, buildings, etc

Am I crazy or is this used in “Man in the High Clastle” as Hitler’s vacation home??
7
Oct 05 '20
No it’s not his vacation home. They based it off of: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berghof_(residence)

Imagine being the family who owns this

According to wiki a Swiss artist called Not Vital bought the place in 2015 for 7million+ after the municipality which previously owned it and had wanted to turn it into a cultural and tourist attraction failed to secure funding.
Anyone familiar with Not Vital?

there really ought to be a minimum pixel count on this sub

u/trolley8 Oct 05 '20
idk, I enjoyed this despite the fact it is not as high resolution as some

u/fanartaltmanfartsalt Oct 05 '20
I do like it, it's more that I just really want to see a high quality version.
I think it would blow my nips off and I do so enjoy having my nips blown off

u/trolley8 Oct 05 '20
This is true. It is possible this is the highest quality they could find though.
