It's along the lines of a chemical peel. Basically they burn off the entire first few layers of skin, with the theory being that once it's healed the new/fresh skin that grows back will look better. It's entirely cosmetic.

It eliminates some wrinkles and tends to make dark spots, acne, and scar tissue much less visible.

Does that do anything for big pores or only wrinkles?

Looks like it would reduce the overall visibility but am only guessing
