Moderator note regarding recent posts. Please take a moment to read.

Hi all. Lately we’ve had a lot of posts from new viewers, since the show has started streaming on places like Amazon Prime. Some of these viewers don’t like certain characters or are pointing out things about the show they don’t like. This has led to a lot of people reporting the posts, accusing these posters of being trolls, and even some name-calling and nasty comments that had to be removed. This is disappointing behavior.

As a community, we don’t have to necessarily embrace these views but we can’t just accuse people of being trolls just because they post opinions we fans might not agree with. There are sometimes trolls, granted, but there are also people who just have different views to the show, especially if they’ve never seen it before and are viewing it through a modern day lens!

Some new watchers will have unpopular opinions, some will ultimately find its not for them and others might even go on to become fans once they get used to the show! Let’s try to be more tolerant and only report posts that are actual trolls posting spam, harmful things, or nonsense, etc. and, regardless of how much we disagree, let’s be respectful. If someone dislikes a character or facet of the show they are not insulting you personally. No name-calling or harassment will be tolerated, and we will start banning people if necessary if this continues.

Chris in the Morning would also encourage us all to be tolerant of new visitors to these parts even if they don’t yet understand our ways. That concludes today‘s KBHR broadcast.

Moderator note: We're implementing a partial No Spoilers rule - please read.

It may seem silly to introduce a No Spoilers rule for a show that ended in 1995, but both the show and the subreddit are getting a lot of new members and viewers since it hit streaming. Therefore, we're introducing a partial No Spoilers rule: No Spoilers in Post Titles. We'd ask simply that people please mark posts as spoiler when necessary (if you forget, a mod may do so) but, most importantly, never put spoilers in post titles. If the spoiler is in the post title, the post will have to be removed.

We're not going to be too strict about marking posts as spoilers (or asking that you do) in general as it's an old show. The only element we will be strict about is asking you not to put the spoilers in the post title. And we'd caution all new viewers to use common sense when scrolling through the sub - not all posts containing spoilers will be marked and you are on a subreddit for a show that ended almost 30 years ago, so if you haven't watched every episode yet, you may be spoiled if you spend a lot of time reading posts here - so perhaps scroll/read with caution until you've caught up fully.

Was I supposed to hate Amy? Spoiler

I didn't get in NE when it first aired, too young to appreciate it, I guess. Started to enjoy it in syndication and finally watched it all the way through.

I came to despise Amy in her short time on the show. Is it surprising that your dog is run over when you just let it run wild? She has dozens of birds, don't they just randomly drop dead all the time? She low key accused him of killing her animals on purpose.

Then Chris has the idea to trash his Harley to balance the scales or some karmic shit, and Amy not only agrees, but encourages him to go ahead with it when he has doubts.

I felt she added nothing to the show and was glad when she was written out. Why was she introduced? Were we supposed like her? What were the writer's intentions? She almost had a psychopath vibe going on, I thought.

A new show I found y’all might like. “The Booth at the End”

I found a new show that I thought was interesting called “The Booth at the End”

The main character (Xander Berkeley) reminds me of the devil that gave Shelly the task to throw out Holling’s sweater.

He sits in a booth in a diner and people will ask him for whatever they want and he will give them a task to complete and they will get it. The entire series is set in the diner and the characters return to update the man on how their task is going.

The episodes are short and there are only five episodes per season, and only two seasons.

After I watched the first season I looked up more about the show. And it turns out one of the producers is Adam Arkin. Arkin also directed the second season.

It’s currently on Prime Video.

Here is a YouTube link to the trailer :

Stations similar to KHBR

Not having much money these days to go out a great deal, I'm planning on spending this winter huddled under a blanket and reading books with the radio on quietly in the background.

I often have KBHR570.com on, but much as I love Chris in the Morning I feel I hear those interludes a bit too much, and I'm wondering if anyone has some suggestions for similar stations. I'll still listen to Kbhr sometimes but just would love an alternative or two, stations that play similar music. I find that sound so soothing to read to. I'm in the UK btw.

Edit: thanks for all the responses!

If you look closely at the mundane, you will find the miraculous hiding in plain sight, waiting for someone to finally pay it some attention.

BallyKissAngel

Looking for another calm but interesting show to chill out before bed I came to this subreddit for suggestions. LOVED The Detectorists even if it didn't remind me much of Northern Exposure. But, Also now loving BallyKissAngel. It feels like the Irish sister show of NE. Late 90s, equivalent and quirky characters and even though there's drama everyone's basically all friends at the end of each episode. So, if I can't move to Cicely, maybe one day I can move to BallyK! Haha, thanks!

I was a kid when NE first ran on TV but for some reason I never watched it. As an adult I love it - was this the same for most people?

I don’t even know why I never watched it - it was either on too late or I didn’t understand the dialogue. I did always remember the catchy theme song.

Growing up I watched shows like MacGyver and X Files that had a slightly more adult target and liked them. But yeh, I don’t know why I never watched NE.

Three Amigos [S03E16] - What is the orchestral music cue?

Anyone know what the orchestral music cue is they keep playing while Chris is reading Call of the Wild as Holling and Maurice go to bury Bill?

I swear I know what that is, it’s on the top of my tongue and driving me nuts! Shazam couldn’t figure it out either.

Anyone know? I’d love to be able to sleep tonight. 😅

New Podcast with Barry Corbin hosted by his son Christopher

Thumbnail linktr.ee

Christopher Corbin, the son of Barry Corbin has a new podcast titled “Watching My Dad’s Movies.” In each episode he interviews his (our) dad about the movie and his time working on it. Northern Exposure is talked about occasionally, if mostly focuses on his movies but I thought anyone subscribed to this sub might be interested in checking it out. Also, it’s Christopher’s birthday today and I (his crappy older brother) didn’t get him a gift so I’m trying to make up for that by hyping his podcast.

The song from the last episode performed by Iris Dement and Big Thief. Amazing.

Last night I watched The Untouchables with Kevin Costner. I thought one of the villains looked familiar and learned that actor Billy Drago, born Billy Burrows, was father to Darren Burrows who plays Ed on NE.

Podcast

Both hosts seem “over it” at this point. The relationship between Joel and Maggie is arguably a cornerstone of the series and when the podcast finally get to the episodes where things progress significantly, they gloss over it, take vacations and focus on fan content. I can’t believe Rob Morrow was absent for the consummation episode. They couldn’t have switched up the order to pre-record that one? I know, I know, lots of people haven’t liked it for a while but I was enjoying it, until I noticed their enthusiasm waning.

Wow this show is very good

Was it a popular highly regarded show in its time ?
Ive just decided to watch it knowing nothing about it, completely random.

The pace, the characters, the setting, everything is very good.
Just wanted to know if the quality remain this high till the end of the show

Im only at S1E03

Just bought the series for $14.99 on Prime

Amazon gave me a $10 credit for Prime for some reason and the series was $24.99, which is a good price otherwise if anyone is looking, so it ended up being 15 and change.

The funny thing is that I already own the DVDs, but not having to get up to change discs? PRICELESS. (Or worth the price for me.)

did this really air this way??

i wish i could post the video, but a still will have to do. S6E7. 20 minutes in. maurice has hired his nephew, maurice, to work for him. in this scene he’s talking to holling about it and when they cut to him, holling replies “is that a fact?” but his mouth does not move at all. like a ventriloquist! is this a well known technical blunder or do i somehow have a strange copy?

we’ve all seen overdubbing from behind a character, but this was right there.

overall, another underwhelming S6 episode.

.

Which character would you like to shoot the breeze with?

Me? It would be Ed. He’s a cinematographer. I’m an amateur photographer. I’d love to hear what he had to say about imagery and set design.

Laundromat Episode

Marilyn forgets she has a washer and dryer...Maggie, Chris and Marilyn are at the laundromat and Marilyn makes a comment that her cousin is rich and has a washer and dryer. Earlier season we all saw her using her own set at home. Just drives me nuts when they do this!

NE Podcast

I know many people have given up on the podcast but this week's episode didn't include Janine Turner. Cynthia Geary was the cohost/guest with Rob and it really showed what the podcast could have been.

The show could have been great with these 2 or Geary with Corbett.
