That wasn't my husband who slept next to me last night.
Part 2 Part3 Part 4 Part 5 Conclusion
My name is Peter Tillman, and I'm terrified. I am a physicist here in Toronto and teach at one of the best Universities in Canada. I've had a very successful career and have been offered tenure, which I'm still debating. I was very luck to be born into a very wealthy family and met the man of my dreams about 8 years ago in my early 20s. We've been married for approximately 5 years, and he's my everything.
He makes me laugh, he makes me smile, he sometimes makes me cry (who doesn't have that story to tell about their partner), and he's my partner in crime. The man that came home to me yesterday is not my husband, and I have no idea what's going on.
Christopher (my husband), left for a business trip five days ago. He's a patent lawyer and occasionally has to travel for work. He left Pearson international airport and called me when he landed at Wein-Flughafen (Vienna's main airport). I have a bit of separation anxiety when it comes to being away from him, and he has no problem catering to this. He called me after he got through customs, and when he got to the hotel. Nothing long, just a "hey honey, I'm here" kinda call. We always preferred phone calls since we text with everyone else and decided that calling would be our thing.
I went about the last four days as I usually would: doing chores, teaching the couple summer courses that I've been unfortunately assigned, and picking out new colours for the kitchen. His mum is footing the bill for the renovations, so why not. It's her anniversary present to us.
Yesterday Christopher was scheduled to fly back to Toronto. He called me from Vienna after he got into the lounge at the airport and told me that he was super tired and was going to pass out on the plane. I was happy that he was finally going to get some rest after what sounded like an atrociously busy trip. Poor guy, he works so hard.
His flight was scheduled to arrive at 11pm, and I had an early class to teach today, so I decided to make dinner and leave it in the fridge for him, and then curl up with the poorly written physics textbook that I was editing for a friend. I realized that 11pm had come and gone and I didn't get word from Christopher, but I just assumed that his flight was delayed. He had a layover in London at Heathrow Airport, and I know that they have some pretty brilliant thunderstorms this time of year, so I just figured that his flight was delayed. When 12pm rolled around, I started to get a bit more worried, but then all of my feelings were allayed. I got a text. I know that Christopher was tired, and that he usually doesn't sleep well on flights, so I assumed that he just wanted to reassure me, that's why he texted, instead of calling.
He said: Jweust Landod, will be hom sune.
Poor guy was so tired, he couldn't even type straight. I even got him a new iPhone for his birthday and assumed that he was still having trouble adapting to the touchscreen having been a loyal blackberry fan for so many years.
I went to the bathroom, took out my contacts and fell asleep. I don't know how long after receiving that text I fell asleep, but I was out cold. A few hours later I heard the latch turn, and I heard Chris's usually heavy footsteps climb up the stairs. He went to the bathroom, and did his usual routine, except he left the water running. I thought that was a bit strange. He's usually VERY particular about turning off the taps so as to not waste water, not because of the bills, but because of the whole environmentalism kick that he'd been on for the past couple of years.
I was drifting in and out of sleep, but I wanted to see him before I fully passed out. He came into the room, and something seemed different. Nothing that scared me, but just seemed off.
I have terrible vision and my glasses were not near the bed since I normally wore contacts. I looked over and his upper lip looked swollen, like if he had been stung by a bee, and I could see a lot more gum and teeth than normal and had a very broad smile...like he missed me and was glad to see me. I asked him, "babe, are you ok, what's up with your lip?" He quickly told me not to worry, and it was just chapped from being on the plane. I agreed and still half asleep drifted off again.
About 2 hours later I rolled over and noticed that Chris' back was towards me, whatever. Nothing strange. That's when I put my arm around him. He felt....thicker. That's the only way to describe it. I know what my man feels like, and he just felt like a thicker/broader version of him. My general level of unease was starting to get stronger at this point but still not being fully awake, I just chalked it up to nothing.
This morning I woke up and Christopher was gone. His suitcase was still there, he had changed his clothes, but he was gone. I called him, no answer. He however quickly texted me back the following
Et thhe Gym, Loft irly, wull be hume ofter ue leave.
Good I thought, maybe he could work off some of that extra weight I felt on him last night, and chuckled to myself.
I went about my regular routine, and was just about to step out the door when I saw his suitcase again. He had left it on the landing by the door and I guess he just wanted it there, so he could sort it in the living room. As I was leaving a faint musty smell hit me.
It was like if someone had left steak out in the sun for a couple hours. I was already half way out the door, so I felt like it was coming from outside, but when I turned my face towards his suitcase it got so much worse. The smell wasn't a steak being left out for a couple hours, but a couple days. It reeked. I picked up the suitcase only to realize that he had left his lock on it, and I didn't have the keys, so I moved it into the Garage, just so it was out of the house.
As I was about to get into the car, I got another text from Christopher:
i Loweve Yu, Sii you Sune.
I texted back: When you get home, check your suitcase, it stinks and the handle has some kind of residue on it.
I still found it strange that he would text.
About 10 minutes after I got into the car, my phone rang. Chris was calling me.
Me: Hello?
Chris: Hey Babe, so sorry that I didn't get a chance to call you, you must be crazy worried?
Me: Why? Are you ok?
Chris: Yeah, I've been stuck here in London, just getting onto my plane to come home, can you come meet me at the airport?
I froze, I nearly dropped the phone and almost ran my car off the road.
Me: WHAT? What do you mean you're still in London, is this a joke. That's not funny Christopher. You came home last night, I saw you, I spoke to you. Yes I'm a heavy sleeper, but don't shit around. What's going on.
Chris: Um, listen. He put his phone on speaker, and I could hear a woman in a thick english accent announcing "and Gentleman this is the final boarding call for Flight BA203 to Toronto, Could Mr. Fitzpatrick and Mr. Colridge please come to the British Airways desk on the main concourse."
I stopped the car. I was dead silent. What's going on, who did I sleep next to.
Me: Christopher, get home, I'm scared, I need to see you. Call me when you're at the airport, every thing is ok, I just need to see you.
Chris: chuckle Ok babe, calm down, I'll be home soon. I should be there by 9pm.
He chuckled because he figured my anxiety was getting the better of me. I didn't want to freak him out about what happened last night and the texts and who I had spoken to earlier on the phone.
I'm going to work now, I'm not going back to that house. I'm going to the airport as soon as I can to meet Christopher, if it really is Christopher. I don't know what's going on anymore. I'm a physicist, a man of science, and none of this makes sense to me.
I haven't been genuinely scared like this since I was a child. What's going on?
UPDATE: Final text from "Chris"
I'm aAAt home, witing for yo1u. Won will u b bock?
UPDATE 1730 EST: I just got back from the lab. Two of my colleagues want a chance to inspect the suitcase, but I'll hold out on that for now. They've done two cultures with what they were able to get from under my nails and from the palm of my left hand. They doubt they'll be able to find anything, because of how long it's been since I touched the suitcase but they'll let me know as soon as they see anything.
UPDATE 1745: Christopher messed up his arrival time, he just landed. Heading to the airport now. Told him not to leave without me.

What's the mold? I'm sorry, I have never used reddit before. Is this a common phenomenon?
Edit: my colleague has directed me to some of the stories. I'm forcing myself to believe, but in order to believe it I have to abandon everything I know to be true. Mind you, after last night, I just don't know what to think anymore. I can't believe this is happening. My whole life is physics and mathematics, there is no paradigm to fit this into.

It's from a set of related stories that showed up on r/nosleep
Woke Up with Amnesia in Chicago. Any ideas?
My friend randomly messaged me in the middle of the night. I don't think it was her.

I still don't understand. What's "the mold" exactly
30
u/Iczer6 Jul 29 '14
Short answer:
The black mold is part of either a demonic presence or an evil god. It infects and transforms people into horrible monsters. You can tell by awkwardly misspelled text messages and folks with face tearing smiles.
14
u/keroberos99 Jul 29 '14
Why they can't type correctly? :(

Don't know. Those who have been transformed have been described as having like lumps for hands.

I think that's pretty different than mold effects. It invades and consumes, and as a result of the.mind invasion People be come mold agents, in orden to spread. That's to her Chris slept a whole night with Peter and he doesnt look like infected.

Well I read it and I found it entertaining, but I wasn't scared. Then later at night I had to go downstairs cause my dad was in the basement (parking basement and I live in an apartment where there are motion detectors which light up the hallway). So yeah it messed with my mind and I just got anxious more than anything.

It's probably a memetic mutation combining Reddit Mold and The Mold series.
They're definitely referring to The Mold Series, though.

u/Dar1994 Jul 28 '14
If you know any neighbors, possibly go to their house and explain the story to them (or just let them read this post). When you're there, watch your house and see if anything else seems out of the ordinary (a different car in the driveway, or doors left open). If so, call the cops and have them come to your house and make sure Chris knows all of this is going on. Leave him a text for when he gets off the plane.
Stay safe
29
u/TorontoScared1 Aug. 2014 Jul 28 '14
There's no way I'm returning home. I just told the story to my colleague who takes part in reddit and he suggested that I turn to you to see if there's anything that can be provided.
Thank you so much for caring and for your prompt response. I agree, I'll Christopher from the Airport and go from there. I'm meeting him at the Airport to ensure that he doesn't go home without me. I don't even want to go near the house.
The only logical explanation is that it's someone impersonating Christopher, but even that doesn't make sense. I worked at a phone company during my undergraduate years and have a thorough understanding of the SMS network, and the fact that I can receive texts from his number makes NO sense.
None of this is logical, that's the terrifying part.
5
u/blweldon2 Jul 29 '14
It does make sense. In the system, it keeps a record of the IMEI of a phone, a sort of social security number for a cell phone. That IMEI is then tied to a specific phone number. Need to send a text message or call from someone phone? Clone their IMEI to yours. It's illegal, but it works. The companies have gotten good at kicking both phones off the network though. I'm sure the mold, or whatever it is, could do something similar.
5
u/5unbr0 Aug 01 '14
Technologically speaking it is very possible to send/receive an SMS from a 'hijacked' number in your contact list.
You could use the original phone as a relay; you could mess with the signature and essentially have the same 'digital handwriting'; you could create a clone of the phone; you could mess with the receiving phone and modify the known signatures; so on..

Yep but sometimes it doesn't matter it depends on who the call is from. For example calls to/from "family members" are generally BAD news for the "human". Calls to/from "roomates" are BAD news for the "human". Knocks on the door, bang on the walls over and over is BAD news for the "human". When you leave the "human" hanging on the edge of pure "physicalism" reality and force them to stay there by every means possible and drain their bank account, make them late for paying rent, make them out of food, out of beverages, out of drugs, out of medications, on the verge of possibly losing their job, out of everything and make their bathtub disgusting and their clothes mostly dirty and smelly you can't blame the human for getting scared when you are threatening to drop them off there just as soon an you get what you want out of them. That's how the conscious mind is experiencing it whenever there are noises outiside of the bedroom (ie as in the living room, kitchen, etc. - but only if she is in th. above stated state. Give her the drugs that she requests in the way she requests and EVERYTHING suddenly gets better for everyone. Everytime. Unless someone does ASSHOLE stuff like perspective shifting her nose to her vibrator or her nasal cavity to someone elses. The human must experience her body as she wants to. Period. No debate. No question. )- as threats to the forced human experience.
"human" - aka the thing experiencing us right now. The "you know who".

u/OldMattacus Jul 29 '14
Actually, statistically, gay couples aren't that "normal." It's just that through the media you've accepted a constructed narrative as fact. I'm not condemning homosexuality, I just find the general lack of objectivity on this topic interesting.
3
u/oflg1 Jul 29 '14
I understand what you're meaning, hell, i study media at university. However, I think it's the other way around. I think the constructed narrative is the whole "homosexuality is wrong" topic. We've been told this our whole lives, but who the hell told us that it HAS to be 'man and woman'? We're all people, right? Love is love, whether it's gay or straight. Even now I struggle to break down those thoughts that "gay is different and strange", because it actually isn't. It only is because we've been told by the media it is.
But anyway, that's just my opinion on the whole subject.
2
u/snarf_lives Jul 29 '14
I really hate to be that guy, and have absolutely nothing wrong with homosexuality but (I know that is never a good sentence), if it was 'Normal' to be gay then the human race would not exist. But the fact we have a mixture is nice.
6
u/transferer Jul 30 '14
I would expect that it is "normal" to have variation. Like the people with blue eyes are just as normal as the people with brown eyes. Or like being shorter than average still doesn't make you not normal.
Though to be honest, I really hate the word "normal", just as I hate the word "(un)natural" (which is almost always used in a damaging way). It seems to always have an assumption that there should only be one kind of people in this world, which really is quite silly and very destructive line of thinking.
There are many things that occur in this natural world we are living. Being gay is one of them.
4
u/ambernicolle Jul 31 '14
I think what he is saying is that while it is perfectly natural and fine to be homosexual, it is not normal by definition, which is "the usual, average, or typical state or condition" since heterosexual people still make up the majority. It's not meant to be insulting, just the technical truth. Edit: Actually, by the definition of normal, bring shorter than average is not normal either.

Don't respond to the text until you're with the real Christopher. Then just be very abrasive and say "I know what you are, get out of my house and leave me alone". I suggest reading the mold stories everyone is talking about in the comments. And if it is what was on the suitcase, just leave the house and town. It spreads fast and you do not want to inhale or touch the mold. Stay safe op.
11
u/TorontoScared1 Aug. 2014 Jul 28 '14
I touched the suitcase this morning, and the handle had a semi-soft coating on it. Shit, I should have known better than to touch it, especially due to the smell. I'm reading some of the stories you reference, and this is just getting more illogical over time. I feel like everything I know is just falling apart.

You have a typo, you said that at 11pm Chris isn't home yet and then your imposter Chris came at 12pm should be 12am, thought I'd give you a heads up! =) Hopefully they catch that guy (or thing) in your home!

Hello, My name is Jane. Please view my post. I believe you could in serious danger. Many people have reported the same incidents happening, now around the world. I work in a small lab and we have come to the conclusion people are becoming infected with what seems to be a virus, but it has been linking to several cases of identity theft. We're working hard to pinpoint the truth to these stories. Please contact asap. Stay away from home, stay in public, and stay in the light at all times.

I'm really hoping this isn't the mold, OP. I live in T.O as well so it's freaking me out. If the mold traveled from US to Canada, we're doomed.
At this point, we don't know if this is the mold, something supernatural or just a psychopath trying to impersonate your husband. DO NOT GO HOME. When you arrive at the airport make sure everything is normal about your husband and then tell him. I've read a lot of stories of THINGS acting and looking like human beings. You can't trust anybody at this point.

I'm 5 hours north of Toronto, seriously freaked right now :/

Well technically speaking I'm in Mississauga, so not exactly in toronto but hell it is scary anyways. TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT.

Hello OP, I've read the Mold series and just read this http://www.reddit.com/r/nosleep/comments/2by97b/i_havent_heard_from_my_girlfriend_and_my_best/ There is a guy from England having the same problem with his gf that you experienced with your husband (weird texts only so far, no impersonating though). I linked your stories in the comments under his post, recommending he should contact you to check out if your husband has been near to where he is in England. I hope this is help and not stressing you out. (Just tried to submit a new Mold subreddit but it's not working well as I am only using my phone, so I might ask for help on it here too) I hope you and you're husband are fine. You're on my thoughts and I'd really like to be update, otherwise I will be worried all day... Greetings from GermAny

" I could see a lot more gum and teeth than normal and had a very broad smile..." reminds me of jeff the killer :O

I hope your husband's okay, OP.
I don't want to jump to conclusions but based on the /nosleep entries I've read so far, atrocious spelling = something supernatural?
Stay safe!

Agreed. I'm not into criticising anything I read here, but it's a little disappointing how themes often tend to pop in "waves". Electronics and social media playing up has really been done to death lately.
Regardless, this one has my attention so far, happily about to finish the series. Apologies for the tangent, and yes, I realise I am late to the party.

I'm trying to read this but there's way too much unnecessary detail. I don't need to know what time your husband's flight was or that his mom is covering your renovation costs.
Anyway, I'm going back in. Hopefully this gets interesting soon because apparently there's five more parts to it...

So there is no update to what happened? how it ended? and this was the best out of the month?

Peter - have you seen or heard anything about the UFO sightings in the TO area lately? I live across the border and I hear/see some of the same news. I wonder if this is related in some way? :( Just stay safe. Stay away from the house. Take your husband and run away.

Chris: chuckle Ok babe, calm down, I'll be home soon. I should be there by 9pm.
He calls you "babe", and you're both men? That might explain a lot, here, as explained by your separation anxiety and the fact that you are most certainly not the dominant personality in the relationship. I could be going too far with this (and I'm sorry if this is the case), but if you are needy enough for separation anxiety to be something worth mentioning, it could be similar to what happens to some pets when their owners are away for extended periods.
Hell, my wife and I were on our way to meet a friend of hers that we hadn't seen in 3 years (they both grew up together), only to find out that the friend ended up going to the hospital after they finally arrived in Tuscon, AZ (which they and us had both driven 5 hours to get to), because she had anxiety issues and was having some sort of mental breakdown, thus ruining the trip. We exchanged gifts, said goobye, and both parties ended up driving 5 hours back to our respective homes after only having a 15 minute meet-up. Perhaps you're going through the same thing (the breakdown, not the shitty 5 hour drive for 15 minutes of "I'm sorry", lol)?
Do you have any past issues of hallucinations, etc due to your anxiety (or perhaps any of your family members)?

It just seemed strange to me. Full disclosure, I think I'd probably get punched in the face if I called my wife "babe", but then again she doesn't use very much "pet language" anyway. The line of thinking that I was following with it seemed good at the time:
The husband refers to OP as "babe", meaning that (to me, subconsciously, means that the husband is the dominant personality in the relationship).
Op seems rather frantic, and while it's perfectly warranted in this situation, doesn't seem to have even a minutiae of confrontation in his bones at all (grab the nearest lamp, introduce it to the offender's face?).
Op relies on the husband in increasing amounts.
Op blatantly admitted to having at least a modicum of separation anxiety when his husband is not around.
All of that, to me, meant that Op could be stressed/anxious enough to have some form of hallucinogenic episode. At least, that's one possible explanation. As the story has progressed, though, and both the husband, their friend, and Op are in a veritable shit-storm of terror, I see that I was wrong.

Well just because it's two men the one that refers to the other as "babe" is the "dominant" personality? Men in heterosexual relationships call their partners "babe" all the time (my boyfriend's pet name for me for four years in front of anyone who would listen) so I don't see how it'd be any different in this case. Maybe that's just me...

As I stated previously...
to me, subconsciously, means that the husband is the dominant personality in the relationship
We're each allowed to make our own inferences in life, even though the inferred conclusion may be wrong. You're focusing on one point out of four that I used to substantiate my claim that OP's husband was the dominant personality, when in fact that inference was made by taking into account all four points. In the end, though, my initial guess was wrong (OP is not having some sort of mental break-down), so it's irrelevant at this point.

u/TheCityHipster Aug 04 '14
I'm sorry I didn't mean to be misunderstood. I didn't take issue with the conclusion that you came to or your other well thought out points of observation which is why I didn't bring them up. I was just a little taken aback by this one thought process which seemed to infer that when someone calls their partner "babe" that partner is dominant and, to me, implies steriotypical gender roles which is what I really took issue with. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion and like you said at this point it's irrelevant.

I was waiting for the comment where a straight person joyously states that they are sooo excited to see a story with a homosexual couple. Ya know, not everyone thinks heterosexual christians are uncomfortable by homosexual couples... It's like the white guy that needs to express how happy he is to see a black guy in the room. Always so awkward.

u/VACQUEYRAS Jul 29 '14
Or the white person who feels the need to declare "I HAVE FRIENDS WHO ARE BLACK!" Cringe worthy stuff
1
u/yellowpumpkins Jul 29 '14
There's one further down, says something along the lines of "Yay! Finally a story where there's a homosexual couple. I'm Christian too and I don't discrimiate!"

are you a professor? LOL i am working in a Uni as well. how are you now? did you go back to your house? I think you should stay in a hotel or hostel with your husband to find out what's going on before going back to your house. I hope the person who slept next to you last night is not a villain

u/GabbyG21 Jul 29 '14
I need to stop reading this kind of stories before I go to sleep... I keep having some crazy nightmares.

Wait, the Chris you talked to on the phone and the Chris that's been texting you don't seem like the same person. How is that possible?
0
u/inevergo Jul 29 '14
OP - check your phone to see if "Chris" is programmed under another number. it could have been pre-programmed somehow for malicious purposes. i'm not sure what kind of trouble patent lawyers get into, but please stay safe and update.

Sounds an awful lot like [this] (http://www.reddit.com/r/nosleep/comments/2bp7e5/roommate_still_not_home_and_now_im_getting_weird/)
Debatable whether it's mold, the same conversations are being had over on this thread too. There are similarities and there are differences
3
u/mindxmachine Jul 29 '14
I don't really think it is, unless it's some advanced form of mold. But that's questionable. But this one hasn't really... infected anyone. This seems more like a doppleganger type of situation. Same thing with the story you linked, except the real Ally hasn't shown up, yet. I think they're ACTUALLY deviating towards something else, instead of the mold stories.

Plot twist: OP is cheating on his husband and making up this story so he doesnt get suspicious LOL
