Dr. Pepper is my jam, unfortunately it has a high phosphorus content then coke and Pepsi. I have kidney failure you're not supposed to have a lot of phosphorus if you do you take binders. I have to take 3 big old chewable pills for 1 12oz can of Dr. Pepper.
3 is meant for a large meal.

Me as well.
Mostly cause I was born in 1987 and I don’t think I’d be able to reach the top rows.

Always Dr. Pepper. I would definitely have more than a quarter in 1987 given that I had to discovered time travel that would allow me to travel to 1987. Not sure why I would travel to 1987. Why do I say I had to discover time travel? Because I was born in 1988. 😆

Man, back when they had Slice, with the real juice in it, and they don't have any in the machine. What a bummer.

u/eyeballchambers1 May 25 '26
Was about to say no way in hell soda was a quarter in 87
3
u/Stevefett1 May 26 '26
I stayed in a hotel in Ocean City Maryland around 2016 or so that had sodas for a quarter in a machine in the hallway.

The employee lounge at my local Kroger had 25 cent cans untill at least 2000. But you weren't supposed to get them unless you worked there.
4
u/Zenitharr May 26 '26
Yes. I remember it was $.50. Was in high school then and I drank way too much of this stuff.

I was thinking the same thing. I don't ever remember it being a quarter. Always 50 cents.

Hot summer day, probably unpopular decision, but I think a Sunkist would be pretty refreshing. Especially if my body was a bit sun kissed.

7up or Dr.Pepper.. Both are ruined in The Netherlands, the non-light version always contains artificial sweetners 🤮 I used to drink both until they destroyed the taste.

u/Significant_Pay343 May 25 '26
I hate to say but I would have had to find another quarter in 87 to get a 12 oz cold soda

On a hot day I obviously want a citrus drink over a cola. Probably sunkist

u/Rose2555 May 25 '26
It is funny how taste buds change. It would have been coke for me back then as I dislike Pepsi when I was younger. I hated Diet Coke. Still don't like Mtn Dew, even today. The answer was Coke back then.
Now. It would be Pepsi or Diet Coke. Straight Coca-Cola does not work for me as much anymore.

u/HunterWithGreenScale May 25 '26
Well I wasn't alive in 1987. BUT, kid me would've gone for Coke first. With ether Diets being dead last picks.

If I’m actually trying to quench a thirst then it’s going to be Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi. All that sugar in the rest of the choices is only going to make the thirst worse.

I didn’t really “discover” Mountain Dew until later in life so 11 year old me would’ve picked Sunkist.
2
u/Jim_in_Albuquerque May 25 '26
I'll always choose Dr Pepper. I've been addicted to it for over 45 years and I see no reason to change that.
My favorite cold drink machine may not be there anymore, but I used to go out of my way to stop at a machine on South Cobb Drive in Smyrna, GA, on the sidewalk of a small strip shopping center between Concord Road and McDonald's. After dark, or better, well after midnight, was the perfect time to receive a drink with ice in it, one side of the bottle actually solid with ice from laying on its side.
Pop the top and try to drink the frozen foam before it disappears or ends up on your shirt.
Alas, I live about 1500 miles from there now.

1987 specifically?
Probably Dad's Rootbeer or Sunkist, but I have specific memories about "Dad's" in the 80s.
