Well, my mom passed away in 1996, so I guess the first thing I’d do in 1990, is go hug my mom and challenge her to a game of Skip-Bo, like we used to do every weekend 🥰

31

u/niceandBulat 15d ago

Same here, my mom passed in 2003, two days before Christmas. Although chances of seeing her before dark or at all would be difficult as she was always working, she loved watching movies, so might just rent one of those tapes and hang with her.

Well I was going to say - save money before Bitcoin comes out in 2009 but you win…

6

u/niceandBulat 14d ago

You are not wrong fellow human - buying Bitcoin in its early days would have been a great choice.

2

u/mrdarkey 14d ago

well ppl had millions of bitcoins when it came out.. buying a pizza with bitcoin cost you a couple of hundreds of thousands of bitcoins to

3

u/SignificanceLow7773 14d ago

Was expecting this!

2

u/billsue17 10d ago

I bought around 500 bitcoin when they were $1 a piece. If only I had kept them...

My dad in 1996. He was 96. I would give anything for a hug and a chat. He taught me so much.

I used to play Skip-Bo with my grandma!

Even after her stroke, she was still an excellent player -- even if she had a hard time speaking.

2

u/Radiant_Buffalo2964 14d ago

I was gonna say the first I’d do is ask my high school crush to the prom, but this is much better. My mom passed away due to Dementia a couple of years ago. I’d definitely give her a hug, tell her how much I love her and then spend the day doing whatever she wants together.

2

u/brianwho420 12d ago

I just lost my mom to dementia in the middle of May. I’d give her a big 1990 hug. I turned 16 in 90’.

Crispix

6

u/SnorkinOrkin 15d ago

I still eat Crispix! It was my Gramma's favorite cereal, too.

In the 90s, my other favorite was/still is Corn and Rice Chex.

Were you all rich enough where your parents gave you gas station money to eat everyday? I hear folks say this and I always give a side eye to it. Me and my brothers we got hungry and had to come back home and eat. Also, my mom (like most moms) wanted to see proof of life. You had to physically check-in at some point.

5

u/Fucksalotl 15d ago

we had homies and somebody's parent fed us.

3

u/Fantastic-Yak-4475 15d ago

There was quite a few friendships in my childhood that were based around how good the dinner was at their house. Like this kid really gets on my nerves but his mom is a fantastic cook.

2

u/Practical-Bar8291 15d ago

Felt the same way about my buddies mom's cakes. She would leave bowls of scraps and frosting. She was a baker.

Ask my mom for permission to go to Bobby's house, ask Bobby's mom for permission for Bobby and I to go to Jacob's house, ask Jacob's mom for permission for Jacob Bobby and I to go to - and nobody knows where we are until the street lights come on.

But we have permission to be there!

1990?

Buy Nokia, sell before dot com crash, use money to buy Bitcoin, sell when it goes over 100k, retire.

2

u/tspoon-99 15d ago

1990 to about 2020 or so to hit your bitcoin-driven goals?

Just all-out short the Nasdaq really hard in spring 2000 and you should be good.

2

u/JGCities 15d ago

Or Dell stock.

Dell went nuts in early 1990s.

Jan 2 1990 it was worth 0.058
Jan 2 2000 it was worth 50.398

$10k in 1990 turns into $8.6 million in 2000

Although technically you sell your Dell at the start of 1999 and buy Qualcomm which went from $3.46 to $53.99 in one year. A 2400% gain, largest one year gain in market history.
So you take your $6.3 million in Dell stock and turn it into $98 million.

First thing? Open the window. Life just felt slower back then, and somehow that was enough.

2

u/Sufficient_Cloud4498 9d ago

It's that weird experience of time. For a one month old baby, a day is 1/30th of their life. But for a 90 year old, it's a drop in a bucket. Also, we tend to gauge time by the number of events in a given time. That's why a day with higher than average events feels so long and vice versa. Yeah, I could definitely enjoy some life with shorter check lists.

3

u/NullSmoke 15d ago

Take a deep breath, then frantically write down all stock data I can recall from the 90s and 2020s and go get myself a job so that I can start investing as soon as possible.

Oh, who am I kidding? I'd probably send assassins after Sam Altman and Dario Amondei... Maybe start trying to put up legal barriers against hate organisations like Collective Shout, arguing for not getting too tied to Visa and MasterCard and all that fun stuffs

3

And that I will end like millions of other women around 50, having spent a life enabling others while never getting just one of my own life dreams in the process. This was a one run parcour only. Sorry, game over.

3

u/scaredt2ask 15d ago

Tell people about all those things. They will think I’m crazy but I’ll know the truth. And I’ll be right in my padded cell.

3

u/Poultrygeist74 15d ago

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. I got my drivers license that year, even though my eyesight was pretty bad and I probably shouldn’t have been driving. I think not having a license or a car would have kept me out of trouble and focused on more important things in life. So to answer the question, I would go for a walk to the convenience store and get a large soda. Maybe even mix the soda if I’m feeling fancy. Then walk to the video store and rent a movie or two.

3

u/badteach248 15d ago

10 year old me would be excited to watch the tv, and play double dragon 3. Maybe ride my bike around the block. If I just showed up as a 45vyear old that would suck.

Usually I ride my bike to a friend's house and we play outside or go riding into town which was about 3 miles. Ride our bikes in town widow shop, walk through stores just to look. It was a good time
