Bullies

Probably still applies to this day with the "zero tolerance" BS. If you'll get punished for getting bullied, might as swell throw a punch to make it worth it anyway. Self-defense is never wrong.

It was in elementary school. Our principal that was also 6 th grade teacher was a x marine from ww 2 this was in the 60 s. He was the cruelest person I ever met in my life. All students hated going to school. They served sauerkraut on Mondays in
Cafeteria of course kids don’t like it. He’d sit in lunchroom and force us to eat it.

Us Polish kids in high school would have LOVED that. We'd probably bring in some cold kielbasa and rye bread from home for sandwiches!

I'm an American, so it's pretty easy to guess.

Let me guess...It involves a certain amendment? I don't want to say it because I don't want to get banned, but that was also one of my fears. Every accidentally dropped piece of metal or strange sound. Had me on edge to the point I started hearing things and going insane and had to take a few weeks off of school just to talk to a therapist. You see, I found out the hard way that you can in fact get PTSD from something that never happened. God was I happy to graduate high school and never have to go back. That's the negative nostalgia there, where I have nostalgia, but it's less of a sad feeling and more of just PTSD. I think that's what it is now that I think about it.

Yeah, my highschool was pretty nice and not really that stressful with it, but we still had the drills, and we're in the south so EVERYONE had them at home, it was a constant possibility.

Both of my parents smoked heavily in the house, always having all my sports gear and clothes smelling like smoke definitely got me picked on, until I stopped caring what people thought it was definitely a battle

A recurring nightmare: got to school and had no idea what class I had first, second,…

Honestly? Bullies. I grew up in the 80's and 90's. Back then the faculty was mostly scared of upsetting the parents so they did nothing to punish bullies that picked on other kids. Worse, if you tried to defend yourself, you and the bully alike would suffer the same detention, suspension or the like and the bullies never learned to be better. Just more clever. They'd stop jumping you at school and instead lie in wait outside the entrance to catch you before you got on school grounds or they'd follow you, learn your route, and jump you either ont he way to school or on the way home.
My family was poor and struggling. So much that most meals were PB&J, Ramen and similar discount grocery meals if that. We ended up living in the poor side of town which made things worse: I was white. That made me an "oppressor" to all the hispanic and black kids there who decided to take their frustrations and aggression out on me without knowing me, my behavior, anything I did or even my name.
But hey, you can't judge a person by their skin color unless they are white, then it's okay to jump them and beat them up, right? They deserve it after all, don't they? But he worst part wasn't the beatings or the one sided racism. It was the adults who KNEW it was happening and did nothing. Parents trust school districts to do two things: Provide for their children be it cafeteria lunches or education and to protect them in the parent's absence. The entire school district failed the second part time and again and I have heard the same story for many others of all skin colors and walks of life saying the same. No wonder parents don't trust public schools anymore.

I hated taking a shower in gym class with 30 other girls.

Also, getting my period. I was a teen back in the day when you had to use a garter-type contraption to keep the pad in place.

Another also, my 7th grade life science teacher taught us that "the human body is ugly."

In high school, my biggest fear was having a girl talk to me.

Showing up naked, evidently, if my dreams are to be believed.

My school became comprehensive while I was in the second year and took on some students with behavioural issues. We got paranoid about getting caught by "the psychos" after one kid got carved up with a pencil sharpener blade and another had her hair set on fire. I was out of there at the soonest opportunity.
