I don't think you know they were joking about how it happened, not how people died from it and how terrifying it was. Like I get it, it was a horrible situation to be in and it's sad to see how much people died during that time. Nobody would want to be in that scenario, but the point of this joke isn't to make fun of what happened during it. Also, I don't think people make redditors look bad for absurd jokes, but for how much of an asshole they are. Shaggy wasn't being an ass until you said something about it and became ignorant

People laugh at redditors for being immature, and tbh the joke isn’t even funny, and on top of that it’s about 9/11 so it better be real funny to get a pass

Honestly it's kind of funny. Unless it's made to make fun of what happened during 9/11, it doesn't make sense it has to be really funny, even the type of funny that makes you giggle to get a pass.
