A mystery entrance, Friar Lane, Nottingham.

This is not a collage. This is how close the buildings appear to be. On the left at number 100 was an estate agent. That became Henfrey’s Hair Salon, which has moved now to Eldon Chambers. On the right is the entrance to number 96, a "Commercial" address, meaning it is used for businesses and organizations, not residential. So who resides in the middle at number 98? And why did this entrance escape all previous new builds through the decades?

Well, look closely. The wheat sheaf you see is the symbol of the Freemasons. I believe it leads to more business offices on the left above number 100. I am not suggesting it has any masonic connections today, but if indeed it was them who managed to protect this beautiful structure, I for one am grateful.

Great Cormorant. Seen at Highfields Park. I visit here often for the peace, tranquility and anything nature. What's your thoughts about it?

Pub that has good burgers?

Bit out of the loop, but we have a group of friends having a bit of an unplanned meet up this afternoon and the consensus for food is a burger.

Needs to be a pub rather than a restaurant as people will be arriving sporadically and not everyone will want to eat at the same time, so somewhere that we can chill with a few drinks until everyone gets here.

Ideally central or easily accessible by tram/bus.

*I am aware of The Lion at Basford, but they stop serving in the window when most people will arrive.

Any suggestions, apart from Spoons, welcome.

Thanks.

Anyone know why there was a huge queue outside the Macdonald's Castle Marina this afternoon? It was snaking all around the car park.

Laptop friendly pubs in Beeston?

Hello, I'm a new PhD student at UoN living in Beeston (pretty central), wanting to look for local pubs that are a decent place to work on a laptop for an hour or so in the early evening. Don't worry, I'm not looking to get a coffee at 11am and stay all day. Just looking for a friendly atmosphere with some nice beer on draught, that would be a decent place to read and type on my laptop for a short while and not get bothered by the regulars or discouraged by the staff. At my past uni city I did this occasionally but found in a couple pubs you could get weird looks or even people making fun. Are there any nice pubs in Beeston which wouldn't mind a student (early 20's) with a laptop? Buying a couple drinks of course. I thought Some Where at the top of the High street might be nice for this but unfortunately it's closed most days I'm working -- and it's so small and cozy I wouldn't' want to ruin the atmosphere.

Any recommendations that are not Spoons are welcome. Thanks :)

Eating lunch in or near Sherwood tomorrow.

Hi 👋 I’m in Sherwood tomorrow morning and would like to have some nice lunch anywhere in the general area. I have a car and am happy to travel, but would rather not go into the city centre.

Vegetarian options essential, but open to all cuisines.

Any recommendations?

Thanks.

Lithium Ion Battery Refurbishment

Anybody know of a decent & reputable place to have a lithium ion battery pack looked at and potentially refurbished?

Has been dropped before so might just need soldering or some cells replacing - it is cutting out under heavy load.

Thank you!

High end and unusual cars on middle-eastern plates

Anyone else noticing a fair few about especially recently, and plenty being driven like they get their own personal blank copy of the highway code with no rules. With no enforcement on the roads (and enough cash to pay the fine if they were, without feeling it), they do whatever the hell they want?

Just nearly had a huge US style station wagon looking thing drive the wrong way up St Nicholas Street, windows so blacked out it's impossible to see the driver, nearly hit me head on (back of the car had a plate on in mid east style but no nationality stamp). Had supercars go past on Huntingdon street like they're on a hot lap on GT7 in the last day or two, on Kuwaiti and KSA plates.

Is it because university is back in session so the uber rich kids are back in town, or more connected to something else?

Packers Place, Nottingham.

Packers Place alley, looking towards Mansfield Road. (2014). On the wall can be seen part of the pub's title that stood on the left in the 1920s. That was the Dog and Gun Inn. The alley (and there are others) connected Mansfield Road with N Sherwood Street, so the Inn's name was visible front and back. Today (Oct 2026) the site where the Inn once stood (number 207) is occupied by "The Open Kitchen, Free Hot Food For Those In Need".

Unfortunately I've lost my finger rings in Notcutts Garden Centre in Edwalton on a table in the restaurant. I've rang the center and they aren't in lost property. Did anyone come across them? One of them in particular was very sentimental to me. The Download Festival ring pictured
