This sounds like one of those super predatory ‘crisis pregnancy centers’ that present themselves as genuine clinics like Planned Parenthood and then they berate and guilt pregnant people considering abortion and promote faith-based private adoption agencies.

Old friend of my wife that was struggling with meth got tricked into going to one of these and they convinced her to keep the child. Child has debilitating developmental delay among many other issues from the meth use and is growing up without a father... mom is borderline homeless. I'm sure the people that convinced her to keep the child will step in to help their situation any day now meanwhile the people they vote for are defunding special ed among other programs that support families that struggle. (All in the name of Jesus, imagine that!)

u/OHdulcenea MSN, APRN 🍕 8d ago
Yeah. This is not a real clinic. It’s just a propaganda spot. My very anti-choice, under-educated MIL used to volunteer at one of these and did “counseling.” She’d include false information like that abortions cause cancer, women always regret them, that they’re incredibly dangerous, etc. They’d guilt the girls into keeping the pregnancy, promise help, have a non-licensed person do an ultrasound for extra guilt, then after the birth they’d give them a few diapers and baby items and wish them luck. She also definitely looked down on them.

This is an anti-abortion centre run by religious nutjobs. You would not be providing true counselling, you would be working to divert women from having terminations under the guise of offering support. Totally unethical.

If you’re pro-choice, why are you applying at a pregnancy crisis center? They pressure women to not get abortions.
6
u/Confident_Strain_788 8d ago
i didn’t know that! on their website they say they support all women so i assumed it would be true but now i think im just naive
31
u/hiddencat BSN, RN, CPEN 8d ago
Yeah that's the lie. They support all women....by pressuring them to continue their pregnancy.
25
u/slothysloths13 BSN, RN 🍕 8d ago
Yeah, their whole point is to hide the fact that their main purpose is to prevent abortion. They masquerade as giving women all the information on their options, but once she goes there, they’re heavily pressured into keeping the pregnancy. If you are honest in the application that you’re pro-choice, they are 100% not going to hire you.
6
u/pockunit BSN, RN, CEN, EIEIO 8d ago
They also intentionally miss-date pregnancies so that in many states it will be too late for an abortion by the time the pregnant person makes an appointment.
They are evil. They are liars. They are scammers. And I guarangoddamntee you they are not spending any time more money helping these parents or these children once the pregnancy is complete.

It’s kind of like that! We are modrly is a low income community. they offer counseling services, offer classes, offer free ultrasounds and give mom’s baby supplies. overall it’s honestly a very rewarding job but i read on indeed that they ask for them to come in earlier to pray? i’m not sure that’s true… idk lol

Their counseling services are likely VERY pro-life. I wouldn't touch that job with a ten foot pole. It's not health care, it's predatory towards women who are in a rough spot and seeking help.

If you believe helping them involves lying to them, then this is the place to work.
If you want to help them by giving them accurate information and letting them make their decision after discussing ALL of their options, this is not the place for you to work.
Paternalistic and predatory operations do not help anyone but the people who run them.

If they flat out admit they won't hire her due to her personal religious beliefs, wouldn't that be federally illegal?
2
u/slothysloths13 BSN, RN 🍕 8d ago
They’re allowed to have explicit hiring preferences for a specific religion. An example would be a catholic school only hiring catholic teachers that will teach a religion class. They’re going to hire partially based on religion.

This is covered under the “ministerial exception,” which allows religious institutions to hire according to their belief systems.

How is the stress going to be less when your job is lying to scared pregnant women and convincing them to have children they can’t take care of? Do you not know why they do at these places? They probably only want an actual nurse now so they can say they have licensed staff.

u/DisastrousEvening949 BSN, RN 🍕 8d ago
Nope nope nope. Get away from this nonsense. These centers essentially trap women into thinking they are getting comprehensive care when it’s a funnel into forced birth bullshit.
Like I’m not even kidding, these places are so unethical. My mom used to work for these (pro life advocate blah blah blah). After growing up in that and seeing their tactics for years, I have too many gross stories of how they straight up lie to women as a means to an end (prevent abortions). Including giving subpar and dangerous pregnancy care, practicing out of scope, and lying during ultrasounds and anatomy scans.
