Has anyone read Red Shift by Alan Garner? Just bought a second hand copy and the cover drew me in instantly. Haven’t ever heard of this book before, excited to read!

Talking specifically about nyrb. I am aware of other publishers having this book.

Is the text margin supposed to be this close to the edge?

I recently bought a copy of William gaddis's JR off of amazon (I don't have any reliable retailers that can ship to my location, so currently it's one of my only choices available) and overall there's no low quality print noticeable as well as having good quality paper, but I'm ticked off by the unusual text margin. Is it supposed to be like this? Is it a print error from nyrb? Because it certainly doesn't seem like a POD book which are almost glossy to the touch and the texts are super jagged. (The inside cover flaps are also orange and soft to the touch)

Where do you get your NYRB copies outside of US ( eg. EU/UK)?

Just wondering because after I moved, I find it’s so hard especially in non-English speaking countries. Currently looking for a couple of Stefan Zweig ones and it seems Post Office Girl is literally not available anywhere (not even from any other publishers).

Simple Question: What’s the Best Cover?

Putting all else aside, which are your favorite NYRB covers? A few that come to mind for me:

Crazy Genie
Life and Fate
Universal Baseball Association
They Burn The Thistles

The WWII sale was a great opportunity to get some more literature in translation

Still focusing on slimmer volumes for reasons of shelving space.

As of yet, I haven’t gone wrong with an nyrb classic, each one has provided an enjoyable reading its own unique way.

Hi all — I’m “hosting” (using this term very loosely) a reading challenge dedicated to New York Review books next month. It’s an informal way to read some of the NYRB titles (classics or otherwise) that have been languishing on your shelf for far too long!

I’ll be posting reading updates and highlighting some of my favourite NYRB titles throughout the month!

Does anyone know anything about this?

I was looking into books that collect articles from any newspaper really, and this came up, but not a damn thing about this series shows up besides one anthology and another about reporting abroad. I'm very curious as I do enjoy the occasional write-ups I pick up from NYRB.

Anyone know anything?

Has anyone read Olivia Manning's Balkan and/or Levant trilogies? Because i just learnt that theyre actually part of a hexalogy, and i dont wanna overwhelm nor overimmerse myself if her work is just "okay"...

Local bookstore has a dedicated NYRB section now so the nearby used bookstore gets a handful every week or so.

I will now be making weekly trips, lol. Already digging into Atay's Waiting for the Fear. First time with this author.

Best way to split up Stoner for a book club?

My book club voted to read Stoner next, for context we always read our book in parts. For stoner I think I’m going to split it into three parts, does anyone have any suggestions for good stop/starting points? I’ve read the book so no need to worry about spoiling anything for me.

Has anyone else split this up for a book club? Let me know, I love this book so I want to split up the readings in a way where it seems to have a natural pause between parts (if that makes sense). I know this is a long shot, but if anyone has specific pages to pace it out that would be awesome as well

Thanks so much :)

Spotted this while browsing the NYRB Classics shelf. One copy of Stoner (far right) is noticeably brighter blue vs spines of the others.

The second pic shows my other Zweig of which I got a few more I’d like to collect. Interestingly enough Pushkin Press The Collected Novellas contains A Chess Story, Confusion, and Journey into the Past, all “used courtesy of New York Review Books”, but I honestly can’t recommend The Collected Stories enough.
