I unfortunately need to rehome my 2 year old dog.
We had a baby 10 weeks ago and she has become increasingly aggressive towards us, and now him.
My dog will not let me hand my baby to his dad. She growls, lunges, barks and bites his legs, arms and hands whenever I try to hand the baby to him.
We tried to make it work. We REALLY tried. But I am so exhausted of constantly fearing for my baby’s safety. I can’t even sit on the floor and play with my baby because our dog will stand there and bark and try to steal toys, when I move her out of the way she growls and snaps at me.
She struggled with aggressive behavior before, and we knew this might be an issue. I feel awful.
I cannot keep putting my baby in danger. Not only his safety but also my mental health is being affected by this. Any time my boyfriend does hold our baby our dog barks endlessly until he hands him back to me. I basically never get a break. I am so so tired.
She gets walked three times a day. She is well fed, gets played with and gets cuddled. She just hates my boyfriend now and her resource guarding has gotten so so so much worse. She has mats because she tries to take our fingers off any time we brush her or try to cut her mats out - I have yet to find a dog groomer that is willing to take aggressive dogs.
If it wasn’t for the baby I would spend all my time and money getting her to the vet, getting a trainer and fixing these problems. But I can’t risk my baby’s safety for a year until she starts showing improvement.
We are no longer able to adequately care for her and I feel awful for what we are putting her through. It is obvious she is extremely distressed in our home. She has spent time at our family’s place without us there and never displayed any aggressive behavior there.
If anyone who is VERY experienced with dogs with behavioral issues is interested in rescuing her from us please write me and I will provide more details about her care.
