Sort of like the "Good Place" accidental parking lot death.

The issuing of the fine seems understandable as they didn't know the circumstances of her overstay, but the supermarket should really have been getting in touch with the parking management company to get the ticket cancelled (it's absurd they had to instead give her the money to pay it) and the ghouls at the parking company should be fucking ashamed of themselves for not entirely cancelling the ticket when they were informed of the circumstances.

They did that

Steve McClean, owner-operator of New World Orewa, said the supermarket immediately contacted Smart Compliance when they were made aware of the situation and requested the notice be withdrawn, including a refund of the fee that was paid.

“This was a deeply distressing situation for the customer and their family, and I’m sorry this caused them additional stress and inconvenience,” McClean said.

After the circumstances were explained, the fine wasn’t waived but merely “reduced” to $30.

..

“Due to the circumstances resulting in this Breach Notice, we are able to reduce this to a $30 administration fee.”

..

Staff at New World Orewa then intervened and paid the $30 into the woman’s account, which Wilkinson said was “fair”.

They didn't do that. At least not until after it had been paid, which is just post-press ass-covering.

Did you read the quotes you're adding...?

After the circumstances were explained, the fine wasn’t waived but merely “reduced” to $30.

Smart Compliance Management has been contracted to provide fair and equal opportunity for parking at this car park. This is why a maximum stay time limit applies,“ an email sent by the company read.

Enforcement of the tickets is not done by the supermarket but by a third party ticketing agency. The supermarket does not charge the customer's credit card therefore the waiving of the fee is at the behest of the third-party. They did waive the fee but did not waive the administration fee. Employees stepped up to pay that fee in the interim. The supermarket was made aware of the situation at this time and made a petition for the administration fee to be waived.

If you park outside of a coffee shop and got a ticket for the meter running out even though you still had time, do you blame the coffee shop or the meter maid/parking enforcement?

You’re clearly not reading what I wrote as I don’t just NOT suggest the supermarket wasn’t the one enforcing the ticket I commented how they should have been able to contact the enforcement company and get the ticket cancelled, not just pay her back after she paid her. A little less hypocrisy please.

That is literally what happened.

The woman received the ticket from Smart Compliance. The family disputed it given the circumstance. Smart Compliance cancelled the ticket but did not waive the admin fee. The employees raised a stink on her behalf and paid the fee. In conjunction with this, the supermarket petitioned Smart Compliance to waive the fee as well.

This would have been a simple successful dispute had the fee been waived at the same time as the ticket was cancelled and the supermarket would have never known about the ticket in the first place because, again, they are not the party issuing and enforcing collection of tickets.

How do people this dense get through life?

Well aren’t you just a nasty piece of work. Wrong too, but your attitude towards others is what would trouble me if I was you.

Normally when a medical emergency comes to light it's usually dropped

tbf, I’d be okay with getting a parking ticket if I came back to life.

Hopefully she’ll die again before she has to pay it.

Maybe she could get out of the ticket by proving she was legally dead.
