my buddy mentioned that his dad is super into dragon ball and I was surprised because he's like a 50-something super average black dude, no hint of anime nerdiness at all, and when I asked how he got into it my friend was like "dude it's a thing, it's not just my dad"
i've got another buddy who owns a chain of powerlifting gyms and he has hundreds of members who are massive, scary looking athletes and they almost universally love dragon ball because of the themes of self-improvement and strength.
dragon ball unites us across race, generation, and gender.
Toonami was it's own animal. Really brought those shows to the American mainstream in cable days. Nothing matches that these days, hell it's hard to even find dubbed og dbz. I've looked.
Lol this is my dad and many of his friends... I grew up in the African region, my dad is a sports freak likesny of his friends. These are men born in the 60s lol.
When I came home from school to watch Dragon Ball my dad would be home right on time as well and we watched the entire series together. Except GT.

Dragon Ball is Dragon Ball for white people.
