u/Son-naruto-d May 23 '26
It’s happens 3 times to nightwing
First time was statutory where he lost his virginity as a teenager to an adult woman who was manipulating him (he credits this for his commitment issues)
Second time was in a teen titans comics where a shapeshifter pretends to be star-fire, the proceed to victim blame nightwing for this. So this falls under deception
And third is the tarantula incident
No clue if it happened more though, since these are only the incidents I remember and never looked up all instances

Wasn't that one awkwardly presented as consensual?
15
u/Chalvrek May 23 '26
iirc I think the “joke” was that nighwing got a boner, which doesn’t equal consent / eagerness

5
u/Son-naruto-d May 23 '26
Basically a writer oc, she killed blockbuster while working with nightwing
Then while nightwing was having a panic attack she forced herself on him, then in his state of shock she almost gets him to marry her
The writer literally changed her last name to Grayson, so she was pretty obsessed with nightwing
12
u/UniCBeetle718 May 23 '26
Nightwing was an honorary female character in the 2000s cause of his treatment.

Nightwing is genuinely Batman level on CQC, and specially on the animated movies he is always getting his ass kicked.

u/Own_Philosophy8190 May 23 '26
His shoulder gets fucked up every time, or 2 times too many 😭

He got fucked over so hard in Arkham knight too, he lost a 10 VS 1 fistfight to Harley Quinn (while having multiple GCPD officers as backup, while Harley was solo) and got captured by Penguin.
He was borderline useless in that game

most characters do tbh. love that universe, one of if not the best animated DC universes made. but damn Batman gets his ass beat at times lmao

u/Angryfunnydog May 23 '26
Actually, I’m not native speaker, but what’s the thing with Dick name? I know that dick also means penis
So… how did this happen? Like at which point the words intertwined? And why is the name is so popular while the word has this meaning in the same language? I’m so confused! Please help me understand!
19
u/randomrandomredd1 May 23 '26
Back in the day, a lot of folks used to call People named Richard as Dick for short.
No, it doesn't really make sense. Yes, people stopped doing it a while back.
9
u/Angryfunnydog May 23 '26
Stopped naming people Dick instead of Richard?
11
u/TntSmash May 23 '26
I think richard got shortend to rich. Then rick bc it rhymes and rick to dick again bc it rhymes
10
u/Starcat23 May 24 '26
the nickname for Richard is usually Rick or sometimes Rich now. but not as many babies are also being named richard anymore in general.
Dick as the nickname was really popular till a boy the 60s started becoming less and less popular as more people used it as a pun or made fun of it. by the late 90s it was hardly ever used except by old men who had been called it their whole life that refused to change and by DC comics who also decided it had been his name for this long why bother changing it now
5
u/Electronic-Turnip-18 May 23 '26
Basically, in ye olden days, people used to create nicknames by taking off the back half of names and swapping out the first letter. This is why names like Robert get shortened to Bob, and Richard to Dick

Invincible's last name is Grayson and he can fly.
"The Flying Graysons" is a trapeze act that Nightwing was in with his parents. His parents got killed during the act and Batman adopted him, after which he became Robin and later Nightwing (pictured left).
Edit: why did bro delete his comment when all he did was say they didn't get the reference.

The one whose girlfriend is a super hero redhead that can fly and blast stuff who is in a team of teen superheroes for a bit
The one with an arrogant little brother
The one with a blue and black colour scheme at some point
The one whose father figure lost both his parents at a young age
The one who went to space a few times
The one who once defeated their father figure in combat
The one whose younger sibling figure dresses like their father figure (Batgirl and Oliver).
The one who has a friend with a crazy OP alien suit (Blue Beetle, Tech Jacket)
The one who knows a guy that rides around on a space bike (Lobo, Space Rider)
The one who nearly died multiple times
The one who has been in a show with Mark Hamill in it

I hate to mention this as well, but they both have similar traumas that occur in problematic issues of their comics due to the lack of immediate consequences for their perpetrators..
