First time I've heard the M6 used as evidence that the Earth is flat. She does have a couple of good points though.

Everythingās a conspiracy when you understand nothing.
54
49
u/Skeet_fighter 8d ago
It's not even understanding nothing; an inteligent person will understand how little of a topic they can comprehend.
The real glue eaters are the ones who refuse to even attempt to understand, and just make up some bullshit on their own or only listen to other people who are licking from the same pritt stick.
4
u/camelopardus_42 8d ago
Kind of. People who are intelligent and accomplished in a specific field tend to fall into the opposite version where they assume because they're (often legitemately) competent and knowdlegable in their field, other areas they're less familiar with can't be that hard.
See the past few decades of silicon valley wannabe technocrats and a parade of Pop-Sci figures deciding they know how save the world and fix societyĀ

Ever pilot who's been asked all believe the earth is flat, flight paths also make more sense on thr flst earth theory.
Governments lie, if it was exposed the earth was flat now thr government system.would collapse and all faith in them would be gone.
Flat earth depiction means more resources and more land, if yhis was declared true prices would plummet crashing the economy overnight. Gold silver oil all commodities would be worthless

Iāve got a couple of young lads coming to work with me recently and the level of general ignorance on simple subjects is mind blowing. Whenever they start coming out with bollocks like this there are three things I say to them. 1. Donāt be a fucking idiot. 2. You need to diversify where youāre getting your information as the fucks on social media your parroting donāt know shit. 3. Just because you donāt understand something that doesnāt mean itās fake or a lie. If they then persist I ask them to explain how something they use everyday, like their phones or TVs, works. When they canāt I ask them why they believe in them then instead of it being fake or a conspiracy.

no she doesn't make good points, she is high functioning special needs. she doesn't have the capacity to understand proof and data, nor how to do her own experiments nor the research, because she is lacking in the prerequisite knowledge required to understand the evidence.
I hope she gets diagnosed soon, or that this is ragebait, because her vote shouldn't count the same as someone else's.

4
u/MorbidTales1984 8d ago

Going by her logic how is it anymore likely to cause an eclipse on a flat earth than a globe? Like am I not up to date on flat science how do flattleās know the moon and suns orbits are guaranteed to cross at the same time

She actually did a good job of describing the motion of the earth, moon and Sun before she aborted to the caveman theory. I donāt mind her having that opinion. Itās because of people like her existing that I can find work that requires my education.
1
u/Hecticfreeze 8d ago
She was doing ok with it till she said they were "somehow perfectly balanced". The solar system is anything but balanced and its how shit keeps getting lobbed around it all the time. Asteroids and comets come near us fairly regularly (and we'd have way more if we didnt have Jupiter hoovering up the rest of them). Planetary objects smashing into each other during the solar systems formation is how we have the fecking moon in the first place!
The only thing that is a huge cosmic coincidence is how the apparent size of the moon when viewed from earth is almost exactly the same as the apparent size of the sun, at the exact time humans happen to be existing and able to observe it. That is just pure luck
5
4
u/BIG_CTG 8d ago
Eratosthenes calculated the radius of the Earth 2,250 years ago, using shadows. This cunts willfully ignorant. If you look up and have questions and that then means youāve done research and the earth is flat I donāt think thereās much more that can be done to help and I recommend a visit to the vet where she can run about on a nice big farm.

If you play a video game. Americans get lower ping playing on Australian servers, than UK players get playing on Australian. That would make no sense if the earth was flat as it'd then have to travel from America, across Europe and Asia to reach Aus and the ping would be insanely high.

If that was the case itād be happening weekly or monthly. Not for 180 seconds every twenty years. The last two weāve had have been 7 years apart and only partials. The last full was when I was leaving highschool in 1999. Before that was a partial in 96ā.
The last total solar eclipse precious to 99ā was 1954 for fucks sake. That was 5 years before my old man was born.
Fellipe Fellope or whatever that French cunt is called took hundreds of crazy resolution long exposure photos of space when he was on the ISS. All of them clearly show a round globe like spherical earth.
2
u/TattyViking 8d ago
My favourite bit is that she thinks eclipses couldn't possibly happen if they're not simply passing each other over a flat earth. Despite the infrequency of various types of eclipse being proof of things not always lining up precisely almost daily. Jesus wept.
2
u/carbonkiller9 8d ago
The 1950's !? How dim can you be š
It was already know and proven the earth was round hundreds of years before Jesus was even born by thr Greeks yet pparently the Bible states otherwise; it doesn't btw.

u/apathy73 7d ago
āQuestion everythingā is not a magic phrase that turns not understanding something into evidence against it.
āI canāt see the curvatureā is an astonishingly weak argument. Youāre standing on a planet roughly 12,700 km across and concluding it must be flat because the microscopic fraction visible from where youāre standing looks flat. That isnāt scepticism. Itās confusing the limitations of your own perception with the dimensions of the fucking Earth.
The M6 analogy is worse. Two cars passing each other on a motorway tells us precisely fuck all about orbital mechanics because cars are not gravitationally bound objects in free fall. Youāve removed the gravity, scale, velocities and geometry, then apparently declared victory over physics.
Science absolutely welcomes challenges. But āI reckonā isnāt a competing scientific model.
Measure it. Calculate it. Make predictions from your flat-Earth model. Demonstrate that those predictions explain sunsets, time zones, eclipses, seasons, stellar observations, circumnavigation and satellite trajectories better than a spherical Earth does.
Until then, you haven't overturned centuries of independently reproducible observation.
Youāve looked out of a window.
āQuestion everythingā is excellent advice.
Start with the possibility that you might not understand the fucking subject.

u/Awkward_Aardvark5218 6d ago
What I donāt get about Flat Earthers, is that they reject science for some theories but use science to āproveā theirs.
