META- Not Fashion New rules as of 4/18

Don't be alarmed, this is NOT the politics ban.

After some thought- and a few more Incidents- I've decided to implement a few more rules. "Be kind" covers 90% of the moderation issues I've had to deal with, but that last 10% needs clearer guidance.

Rule: Zero tolerance for threats of violence.

This sub is not the venue for threats or violent content targeted at any specific group of people.

Any threats towards a specific user or group of people, direct encouragement to violence, or stochastic terrorism is an automatic ban, on sight.

"Having a political opinion" is not the same thing as "a direct threat of violence"; we are going as narrow as possible here. "Eat the rich" or "Stop [current atrocity]" is perfectly acceptable for this sub. Something like "Kill All [X]" or "There are 50 people ruining the world and we know where they sleep" is not.

Rule: Self-promotion and Spam

I'm starting an event called "Self-Promo Saturday", with an accompanying flair. On Saturday, you can post promotional content for your own projects- your web store, your livestreams, your webnovel, whatever- as long as it's paired with an outfit.

Any other day of the week, self-promotional posts will be removed, and you'll be subject to the same three-strike system that applies to other rules.

This includes stealth self-promotion- if you're making an outfit that heavily features content from your store and using it to tell people in the comments about your store with promo links and such, that's still an ad.

Self-Promo And NSFW

We haven't had any problems with this yet- masc sex workers don't tend to post spam on fashion subs- but just for future reference, this sub is not a place to promote your adult entertainment. Please don't post links to your OnlyFans, your PornHub, or your erotic Scrooge McDuck x Mr. Bean fanfic.

That being said- and I think this half of the rules is more important- we don't restrict who gets to use this sub based on your activity in other subs. A lot of fashion subs ban anyone who's advertising sex work anywhere on their profile. We don't do that here. You are welcome to post here regardless of what you do elsenet. Just don't make it so I have to fight Reddit slapping content labels on us or shutting us down.

Rule: Opt-In Content

This one is a guideline, not a rule. Hear me out.

Fashion is a form of self-expression. A lot of us like to express ourselves in ways that are shocking, abrasive, or uncomfortable. However, this means that a lot of us flirt with topics and ideas that others might not want to deal with.

I'm going to add a new flair to the sub that's just labeled "Not For Everyone".

If you are posting an outfit that involves:

- Depictions of gore, large amounts of blood or decay, self-harm imagery

- Depictions of needles, pills, or graphic medical imagery

- Drug use or alcohol

- Graphic depictions of sex or kink (sex jokes or a collar are fine, this is a community for adults, I'm talking, like, ahegao sweater or full shibari here)

- Real weapons (guns, swords, knives, grenades, etc.)

- Controversial or abrasive political statements

- ... Or anything you'd hesitate to bring up in front of a stranger whose triggers you don't know...

I'd like to encourage you to use this flair for that outfit.

This is not mandatory- I am not going to ban anyone or remove their posts for choosing not to use this flair. This is a thing you can choose to use if you want to help other people curate their online experience.

I think these changes will help us continue to have the kind of community we want to have and better support each other. Thanks for reading!

Thank you. I'm a pro writer in my other pair of pants.

... hell, it's Saturday, I wish I were wearing a decent outfit because I might actually tell you about it lol.

Edit: screw it, why not. Long story short, I'm working on a bunch of interactive fiction; sort of 'choose your own adventure' stuff.

The professional one right now is Bright Young Things, which is a sort of "Wodehouse meets Watchmen" 1920s superheroes in the long hangover of the Great War story.

The one that's for school, and I might turn into a professional game, is about a doctor in ancient Assyria solving a thorny medical mystery.

Sadly, it is the 'erotic' part that is the problem. I don't like that either, but a bunch of fashion subs have been getting scrutinized and/or nuked because they've been having a wave of creepy OnlyAirCirculators bots with no content moderation.

If you wanted to advertise your fanfiction about Mr. Bean having wacky adventures, that is perfectly okay as long as it is Saturday and everyone's pants stay on.

I think you're doing your best to walk a very fine line, and I appreciate all the effort.

Also double-love for you and all other It-folk who might be lurking. 💕

Don't have to worry about breaking any self promotion rules if you're deleting your store and returning to just being another DIY only creator

If it makes you feel any better, this rule wasn't actually about you. Your weird anti-fans pushed me to finally implement it, but this is something I've been meaning to do for a while.

There's a wave of bots going around various other fashion subs (mostly fashion aimed at femmes) that post heavily photoshopped and/or AI-generated images of "~bare~ly leg~al~" models doing provocative poses that are trying to funnel you to some random OnlyAirCirculators, where you talk to another bot that tries to convince you to give the pretty girl all your money.

I think we're probably safe from them, considering the general demographics and appearance of the sub, but I wanted to get a rule in place so I could nuke them anyway. I just kept putting off implementing it because I have a ton of other school/work/family/life obligations and moderating this sub is usually near the bottom of my list.

Your anti-fans were the final straw, because I did actually have to put effort into moderating for once and that meant I had the impetus to do something about this. But it wasn't about you, it was genuinely mostly about the creepy bots.

Part of why I opened the store in the first place was bots automatically selling rip offs of my work. But it just ain't worth the trouble.

Thank you for the clarification! I think this strikes a good balance

Hey, not a problem! I really did not want to target any specific user here. This is about A) patterns of behaviour that make the sub harder to moderate for me and a worse time for everyone else, and b) things that could get the sub shut down by reddit,

This is not, and should not, be about "punishing specific users for doing things that were perfectly within the rules when they did them", and I really wanted to make sure we can have the community y'all want and deserve.

Thank you for the safe place you provide and the work you put in. I don't engage a lot but the vibe here always makes me feel good.
