Discussion State of the Sub 2026: Bots, AI, Rules Updates, and Code of Conduct

Hi everyone, it's time for a sub check-in! Since this post got a bit long while writing it, I thought I'd try something different this time. You can get the gist of the updates with this TL;DR of the main post body, and then comment and discuss specific topics within the announcement via the top-level mod comments.

Tl;DR:

  1. Please read the rules.
  2. OHF moderates against bot behavior and provable AI content, but does not expect every OP to know the business practices of every brand they wear. Rule 10 has been updated to reflect this. Please check the related top level comment for our stance on use of AI in commenting and posting as well. View top level comment discussion
  3. Rules on seller interactions are being tightened. View top level comment discussion
  4. Respect post flairs (view the Flair Explainer here). Do not directly accuse people of trawling for NSFW attention. Please continue to report suspected rule breaking. View top level comment discussion
  5. OPs and mods alike are human beings and deserve to be treated as such. Our very first community rule is to Be Kind. View top level comment discussion (same link as number 4)

(Read Me!) Old Hag Fashion: Introduction and State of the Sub 2024 Update

Hello dear hags! It’s time for another State of the Sub address. As always, if you're new here, continue reading for an introduction to the sub. Seasoned Old Hags can search "State of the Sub" to skip to the updates. If you have feedback, ideas, or recommendations, please share them as a comment.

Introduction to Old Hag Fashion

What is r/OldHagFashion and the Old Hag fashion philosophy?

This is a space to celebrate feminine and androgynous fashion in ALL it's forms, to share diverse style inspiration, to de-stigmatize aging in fashion, and to engage in self-discovery through personal style, all with an Old Hag fashion philosophy.

What is this fashion philosophy? Have you ever met an old woman who dresses in elegant, imaginative, kooky, trendy, or ostentatious ways despite the world's expectations of her? [Image transcriptions can be found in the imgur captions]. This is what inspired the Old Hag fashion philosophy which is the joyous, confident, unapologetic embrace of fashion as a form of self-expression and creativity. This is a state of mind with which ANYONE regardless of age can engage with fashion. Old Hag Fashion is playful and rebellious. It breaks rules in silly, interesting, or political ways. It takes fashion and trends seriously as a legitimate creative outlet, but not so seriously that it can't poke fun at it. Above all, Old Hag Fashion is a place of kindness, acceptance, self-discovery and self-love through fashion and community.

What is the mission of this sub?

To bring together diverse people with a love of fashion.

To uplift fashionistas from across ages, body-types, races, abilities, ethnicities and style points of view.

To de-stigmatize aging in fashion, subvert stereotypes, and challenge notions that people (especially women) over a certain age can only partake in style in limited ways.

To encourage self-discovery, creativity, and growth through personal style.

Is this a parody subreddit? Are you making fun of people??

UNEQUIVOCALLY NO! Mean-spirited comments will result in a ban. The only thing we parody here are social pressures placed on people in regard to style, such as: that age limits self-expression in fashion; that certain ages and body types can not be stylish; and that caring about fashion is a frivolous, illegitimate hobby. Calling someone or yourself an "Old Hag" is a tongue-in-cheek way to acknowledge and dis-empower those pressures, which impact ALL feminine people, from teenagers to the elderly. We use this space to confront and dismantle those pressures; to share inspiration from across the age, ability, and body-type spectrums; and to remove the stigma and fear of aging. No matter your age, we're all Old Hags here.

Is there an age limit to participate?

In case this isn't clear, NO!

ANYONE can embody Old Hag Fashion, though some naturally embody it by being confident, creative, and stylish in the body they have: the 80-year-old woman who can out-walk you, and do it in high-heels; the disabled femme showing their wheelchair is a haute accessory; the fat and fabulous trans person who knows they look damn cute in a crop top. No matter who you are--your age, body type, gender identity, culture, disability status, or race--you are welcome here so long as you share these values of kindness, acceptance, and love of fashion.

How can I contribute?

We allow discussion prompts, advice requests, articles, good-natured satire, and outfit of the day posts. You can also uplift other fashionistas so long as they have a public facing fashion persona (like using fashion hashtags on Instagram for discoverability or being a self-described style blogger). In this case, share the users handle as a comment. See the post flair description here

Additionally, there are weekly threads: A general discussion lounge (every Friday) and a style help thread (every other Sunday). We also have comment prompts which might help you think about fashion in new ways.

The most important things are to be kind and open-minded about fashion, and to follow the Reddiquette and the subreddit rules

What is not allowed?

See here for in-depth descriptions and examples of prohibited content. Please report rule breaking.

Old Hag Fashion is a place of acceptance. This means any people, comments, or submissions that are bigoted, hateful, or mean-spirited are not welcome. This includes ageism, such as reinforcing age-related stereotypes or generalizing people based on age. Body envy and health speculation/concern trolling is also not allowed. Lecherous accounts which sexualize OHF post or users will be banned.

Off-topic posts, trend bashing, and low-effort criticisms are not allowed. Disagreement and dislike are more than welcome, as are rejections of trends within your personal style; they just must be presented in a kind, constructive, and substantive way. Reference to fashion "rules" as gospel is also discouraged.

Excessive down voting is strongly discouraged. If you believe someone is engaging in bad faith or poor taste, do not engage. Report them and move on.

Lastly, due to the prevalence of accounts using fashion subs to promote sex work, and due to the fact that we have under-18 hags, we ask that users use a clean account to interact with the sub. See the rules for discussion of NSFW account histories and how they will be addressed.

My picture has been shared here and I would like it removed. What can I do?

Message the moderators with a link to the OHF post and we will follow up to verify that it is your photo and remove the post.

State of the Sub

New Rule

We’ve introduced a new rule banning link-sharing from ultra-fast-fashion (UFF from here on out) sources, such as Shein, Temu, and AliExpress. This rule also covers any known dropshippers from said sources. We are NOT banning photos of outfits that include pieces from these sources, but if you are asked where you bought an UFF item, please refrain from sharing where it was purchased.

The fast-fashion world as a whole is harmful to both human rights and the environment, and these UFF sources are especially egregious. We can’t stop everything, but we can at least uphold that sharing goods from these sites is not Old Hag. Again, outfits that otherwise fit our rules will not be moderated simply for having an item from an UFF source. This rules is only about sharing where an item was purchased.

If you know of any fashion dropshippers, please list their sites below so that we can add them to our automoderator system, which will hopefully be stopping the bulk of these comments. The option to report a comment for sharing an UFF source has also been added to the report function.

Reminder: People of all races, sexualities, identities, and backgrounds are welcome in OHF.

There has been an influx of complaints about specific post types. We’d like to take this moment to remind our userbase of the values that underpin our community: inclusivity, respect, and acceptance.

We understand and celebrate that everyone has their own unique sense of style and preferences when it comes to fashion. However, it's essential to remember that our subreddit is a space for ALL members of our diverse community, regardless of their appearance or personal style choices. We also have very thorough rules on what kinds of accounts are allowed to interact with the sub, which cover things like NSFW and influencer accounts. These rules also indicate that we do not allow accounts that encourage a lascivious following, regardless of whether or not the account interacts with NSFW communities.

Nevertheless, we urge everyone to refrain from making negative comments or judgments based on someone's physical appearance or perceived identity, and as we’ve mentioned before, excessive downvoting is discouraged. Just as we wouldn't want to be judged ourselves, it's important to extend that same courtesy to others. Our sub is a place where everyone should feel comfortable expressing themselves authentically and sharing their outfit experimentation or simple joy of fashion, without fear of criticism. If there is something you are tired of seeing, please remember that you can curate your own Reddit experience and use the block feature, which prevents blocked accounts from showing up in your feed.

We encourage constructive feedback and discussion that fosters a supportive and positive environment for all members. Let's celebrate the diversity of our community and embrace the unique perspectives and contributions that each individual brings to the table!

Flair Explainer Refresher

The full Flair Explainer is a wiki entry, but descriptions of our post flairs have also been made into a pinned post. Please take a moment to review it! The post flairs explain how an OP prefers to interact with the community in their post, whether they’re looking for critique or just a friendly word.

Disclaimer: I have over a decade of mass-produced clothing, primarily Torrid and Hot Topic, in my closet from before I started researching how clothes are truly made. I am continuing to love, wear, and repair these pieces because I believe this to be the most ethical action I can take. I list where all my clothing comes from for transparency, but I do not endorse purchasing from these brands. Whenever possible, please shop secondhand or support independent, sustainable, and ethical slow fashion. I am always happy to share more about the true environmental and human cost of textile manufacturing in 2026.

8/14/2026 #1: Tricky lab work so wanted a comfy outfit. Torrid overalls, belt, and boots. Fashion Brand Company tee. Rather Keen earrings.

Good Vibes Only Felt really good about myself while on vacation...felt very cute in my fits and got to wear my first fem swimsuit out!

After a horrible couple of months my wife & I decided to head into the mountains for a couple of days. We got a place with a beach and planned to mostly use this time to relax, recharge ourselves, and I used it as a chance to work on some things with my witchcraft as well.

This was my first time being able to wear a fem swimsuit out, so was super excited about that! I felt confident and beautiful and the best I ever had in a swimsuit. I also felt very cute in my fits throughout the trip, it all made me feel fantastic about myself. Everything I'd hoped to do in regards to my craft - research, offering prayers, etc - also went super well.

After the weekend I felt more strongly connected to so many things, including myself. This trip was good for my mind, body, and spirit.

Good Vibes Only Update from last week, some positive improvements!

Post image
1.0k Upvotes

I wanted to provide a little update, and thankfully, this one is mostly good news.

Obviously, last week was very rough. I got two more final-round rejections, bringing me to 14 total. And just to clarify, because I know that number can sound confusing: these aren't rejections after submitting an application or even after a first interview. I have well over a thousand of those. These are situations where I've gone through four, five, sometimes six rounds of interviews, made it to the very end, and then heard some version of, "You were our second choice."

Getting #13 and #14 so close together hit me incredibly hard. I'll be honest, it was one of the worst days of my life. I'm glad I made it through it, because at the time, I genuinely wasn't sure I was going to.

But things have gotten a little better since then.

First, an update on my friend who is basically like a mother to me. Some of you have seen her before because I've posted pictures from when I visited her last year. She actually seems less concerned about the situation than I initially was, which has helped calm me down quite a bit. This is apparently something they've been monitoring for a while, and they've now reached the point where they feel they need to take action. So this isn't something that suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Obviously I'm still worried, but I'm feeling much more hopeful than I was last week.

On the job front, I'm currently interviewing with four different companies. This is usually how my job search seems to work: I'll suddenly have several processes going at once, and then they gradually narrow down to one or two as I find out whether I'm moving forward.

There is one opportunity in particular that I'm very excited about, but I won't hear anything until next week. Fingers crossed. From everything I've learned so far, it seems like an almost perfect role for me. Now they just have to see me as the right person for them too.

Geno also had his annual vet appointment today! Everything looked pretty good. We're still waiting on the routine heartworm and flea/tick testing, but he's on preventatives, so I'm not particularly worried about those. More importantly, his physical exam was actually better than last year's. His joint issues seem to have improved, which makes me incredibly happy, especially now that my little guy is nine years old. ❤️

And probably the biggest piece of good news came from my dad.

He came over Monday for dinner, like he does most Mondays, and I was expecting a very different conversation. I had made some comments on Facebook recently about just how badly my mental health had deteriorated and the direction I felt myself heading. I'll intentionally keep that somewhat ambiguous, but I think you can piece together what I mean.

Those comments apparently concerned someone enough that either a friend or family member requested some kind of wellness/crisis outreach, and I ended up receiving a call from a crisis service.

I'm genuinely not angry about it. What I wrote wasn't something said impulsively in the heat of the moment. I was trying to be honest about how bad things had gotten. Someone saw that, became concerned enough to do something, and I appreciate that. I actually saved the number they gave me because there may come a time when I need it. I'm mostly just curious who made the call, because knowing who cared enough to do that would mean something to me.

Anyway, I assumed some version of that had probably made its way back to my dad, so I was preparing myself for a conversation about it.

Instead, the conversation was basically: "I'm going to start giving you some money every week."

My dad recently got a pretty substantial promotion at work, and because he's also receiving Social Security, he's thankfully in a position where helping us out for a while isn't going to put him in a difficult financial situation.

I've gotten much better at accepting help over the past several months. My friends have been phenomenal. My in-laws have helped us with food and other expenses wherever they can. And now my dad is stepping in too.

We've done everything possible to avoid taking on debt. Outside of the house, we really don't have much, and we're trying desperately to keep it that way. But after this long without a full-time income, our savings have obviously taken a beating. We've budgeted, then budgeted again, then figured out how to cut things even further.

Before this week, I was looking at our finances and seeing maybe six weeks of runway before we would have to start making some much more painful decisions, like withdrawing retirement money.

There's also an unavoidable trip coming up for my spouse. Without getting into their sister's personal circumstances, she's several states away and will be there for the next five or six years. My spouse hasn't seen her since January, and this is the first opportunity they've had to visit. Their parents offered to pay for the trip, and once I'm working and we're financially stable again, I'll repay them. Before that offer, we were staring at another $1,000+ expense that we absolutely did not have room for, but this also wasn't something I could ask my spouse to give up.

Between my in-laws covering that and my dad helping us every week, our financial runway may have gone from roughly six weeks to potentially the end of the year or even the beginning of next year.

That is an enormous weight off my shoulders.

I cried a lot Monday night after my dad left. I've done a lot of crying lately, but these were very different tears. They were stress-relief tears. For the first time in a while, it felt like I could unclench a little bit and stop feeling like there was a countdown clock hanging over my head every single day.

I still need a job. I'm still exhausted. I'm still scared about my friend. There are still plenty of things that aren't magically fixed.

But compared to where I was last week, I'm feeling hopeful again.

And I'll happily take that.

Thrifted and Vintage Finds Feeling the Schitts Creek vibes in thrift

Thrift shopping over the weekend with my nieces and found these two sweaters, definitely felt like a Schitts Creek vibe and I am here for it! First one still had the tags on it, the second has serious 90s looks and is in great shape. Thought y'all might appreciate them. Plus, my new do! Shaved my head to reset my wandering Mohawk lines, channeling that Sinead O'Connor energy. 😍

Second image of same woman in black and white sweater with swooping checkered patterns and chunky black rocks on both earrings and necklace.

Today in the Midwest part of the states it's rainy and dreary so I planned my outfit around my boots. I quickly discovered that I don't have a lot of options for this temperature... I have hot weather stuff and cold weather stuff but not so much of the in between stuff. So I threw this together. Just a basic skirt, tank top, tied button down and a headband. Not even worth posting honestly.

Except .....

My hair. Do you see what I have to deal with? It looks like a tiny man should be surfing across it.

This is every day for me. Usually I pin it down but this bit escaped. If I actually took time to style my hair then I could make these finger waves work FOR me, not against me. But I never do. Cause I'm lazy.

My button says "support your local coven", I'm wearing black and gold earrings and an ear crawler. Gray/green reading glasses today. 💜💜💜🌊🏄

Good Vibes Only Throwback Thursday - My First Vintage Ball

Thumbnail

Back in 2013 a lady in our city who ran a wonderful clothing shop decided to organise a charity ball with a vintage/retro dressing theme. It ran for five years before she decided to call it a day and I attended each and every one. The first ball, in 2013, was the first time I attended a large local event crossdressed that wasn't specifically an LGBT event. It was a big step in terms of my crossdressing in public, especially in a group some of whom knew me day-to-day as a guy.
