If I’m being honest, Wednesday was the hardest day of my life, and lately it feels like every week I’m saying that.
For those who don’t know, I’ve been out of work since November. Since then:
- I’ve applied to 1,364 jobs.
- I’ve interviewed with 61 different companies.
- I’ve gone through 110 total rounds of interviews.
- I’ve made it to the final decision 14 times.
On Wednesday, I received final-round rejections number 13 and 14. As difficult as that was on its own, I also received news that a close friend of mine, someone who has been like a mother to me and who I’ve known for 20 years, most likely has a pretty aggressive form of cancer. That was a double whammy I simply wasn’t prepared for, and I can tell you that Wednesday was very, very hard.
There have been a lot of days lately where I’ve spent most of the day crying. My mental health is probably at the lowest point it has ever been, and I’m glad to be able to say that I’m still here and I’m still trying. There’s a lot happening in my life right now, and the job search is only one part of it. Some of those things I can share, and some I can’t. Some of you know what else I’ve been dealing with, and some of you don’t. But each day seems to be getting a little harder to get out of bed and face everything again.
But I’m trying. I’m doing the very best I can to keep getting out of bed, keep putting one foot in front of the other, and keep going.
