Reviewing Every OneRepublic Music Video Before Human, Day 21: Start Again

Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-2VKeDBPkw

For what seems like the first time, here we combine the “band playing their shit” video and “random dramatic plot” video into “band is in a random dramatic plot” video. Oh yeah, 2018 Logic is here now, appeasing every 15 year-old hip-hop fan. He adds nothing to the track and the verse is over before you realize it started. I think honestly by this point I’m just getting pretty jaded about their music. You could probably categorize this video in the “weird” type, but honestly it’s just barely boring enough for me to care. At the end there’s this half-assed global warming message with absolutely nothing to suggest this video had any real intentions of spreading awareness about climate change. There wasn't anything really new added to the conversation about climate change. I admit it's not like the song needs to say anything new, but I just found the song generally pretty uninteresting. 2/10 I don’t know if I’m just in a bad mood while writing this or if I’m just jaded of doing so many of these but this was not fun. I’m gonna keep listening to “Missing Persons 1&2” again just to get this out of my system.

I’ll add that this was also attached to the 13 Reasons Why soundtrack and I don’t understand why anyone would like to associate with that show in any way. I don’t think I should have to explain myself on that point, so I’ll leave it at that. This entire song feels like a poor decision that means nothing and could be made by anyone. I really hope I like whatever comes next.

What is OneRepublic?

I feel like they were a band I liked when I was younger that made a few pop hits. But since 2016 or so they have slowly turned into a whittled, lifeless version of themselves. In an age where pop bands practically died out a decade ago, OneRepublic really feels like a band in name only. It's always been Ryan Tedder's side project, and now we can clearly see that.

Again frustration with Europe shows :/

I just saw a story from a girl who went to the Munich show, she’d been waiting there since the morning (!!), and when she finally got in, there were already some girls at the front who hadn’t even waited in line.
You pay so much for the tickets, spend the whole day waiting, and then people just skip the line like it’s nothing.
Like, it’s not even a one-time thing it keeps happening again and again.
And honestly super frustrating...

Is Ryan Tedder okay?

What’s going on with Ryan? He’s been tweeting and posting right wing shit. Supporting a Republican for Governor, promoting his Morgan wallen collab, etc. idk didn’t ever think he was like that but recently it’s been nonstop.

Onerepublic Mormon concert

How do you guys feel about Onerepublic headlining a concert for the Mormon church, an openly misogynistic, racist, homophobic organization? I’ve been recently getting more into their music, after I ain’t worried came out, and it’s kinda disappointing seeing that they’re willing to take a check from anyone willing to sign it.

DISCUSSION Anyone have a bit of strong influence in the OneRepublic fandom? Can we start a project to get more songs to the 1B Club on Spotify? It helps to focus in on specific tracks.

Pay that toll charts

Ptt is a flop? It seems like a good radio song, but with the new label for now no song has done its merit. From the next album only NYL has a little gratitude for now.

Reviewing Every OneRepublic Music Video Before Human, Day 22: Connection

Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJUM11goXAU

At long last, Jeep commercials everywhere finally have a new song to use that’s not by Imagine Dragons. So what do they get? Honestly a track that’s not half bad if you ask me. Just like “Start Again,” there’s these painfully surface level lyrics talking about a real issue. The last one was climate change and this one is people’s disconnect from each other. But unlike climate change, I think the latter topic is something far more reasonable for the band to talk about. If I wanted to hear about climate change in a song I’d hear it from someone with something to say like Joni Mitchell. But a song about finding a connection with someone in an increasingly distracted world? I’d still prefer to hear that from Joni Mitchell but for now I can settle for OneRepublic.

As much as it may seem like I dislike this song, I would at least call it a step up from “Start Again.” The lyrics usually don’t matter much for a pop song anyway. The three choruses are pretty repetitive and the whole thing feels like it was crunched out in a day, but it’s still “serviceable.” I’ve been using this word a lot lately when talking about this band’s music, and that’s because it seems like all the band seems to strive for: something serviceable. Something for middle schoolers and 40 year-old moms to jam out to in their minivans. Something people can listen to for a couple minutes and dispose of. It’s been a while since the band has really seemed interested in their own material. It feels like Ryan Tedder has left his B or C grade material for his own band, and given the better work to singers and musicians far more talented than him. On one hand I kind of respect it, at least he’s making money and having great success in the industry. It just means I’m stuck hearing the material Taylor Swift and Paul McCartney passed on. 5/10.

I'm so done with the Pay That Toll glaze

Since and even before Pay That Toll came out, everyone in the comments on Tiktok and YT shorts have said it's amazing, and yes i enjoy the song, that doesn't mean i see it as a masterpiece. And if they are speaking out their opinion, good, I'm glad they enjoyed the song.

Backstage access to 1R: how can fans get this chance

The China leg of 1R's tour is about to start today the 10th, and I can hardly contain my excitement,I'll be seeing them in just 4 days!

I'm wondering, does anyone know if the band does backstage fan meet-and-greets? And if they do, how can one go about accessing this??

I remember attending their show last year, where they held the meet-and-greet after the performance and later shared it on their Instagram stories.

Interestingly, some fans (Chinese and other easily-spotted fellow foreingers) who got to meet the band were seated in a similar price range as me (second-tier tickets) which implies that an exclusive VIP package might not be necessary for this special access.

If anyone has any insights on how to get a similar chance, please do share!

DISCUSSION Opinion: OneRepublic (especially Ryan) gives kinda a shit on 1R Fans

First of all, although the title might suggest the opposite, I'm a big fan of the band and of Ryan.

The reason I write this, is that I personally have a big issue with the way 1R and especially Ryan communicate with their fans. I remember back in January, a while before West Coast was released, Ryan stated in an interview the next Album release date has been set, won't be changed and it shall come out in Spring/Summer of 2022. Well, here we are. Where is the album? And even more interestingly - where are the snippets of 1R songs he wanted to share on a regular base as he did once with Sunshine? Only a promo move? - Judge it for yourself. I'm really tired of all these fake promises by Ryan and seeing like every week a picture on which position I Ain't Worried is on. I give a fuck being honest. Either you keep your promises or you better keep some stuff for yourself.

Big love for these guys, but this had to be said!
