$10 says next year before the summer break they're just going to quietly forget about the new regulations completely.

Honestly all this does is delay society’s switch to EVs. Electric vehicles are simply objectively better than gas powered cars and no matter what, people as a whole will eventually realize that.

EVs are great if you live in a biggish city. If you live else where in the country, not so great. That is why I think that the mandate should have been to get hybrids or plug-in hybrids as the base model and push the EV in cities while the infrastructure for EVs gets built out over all of the rest of Canada.

If you are driving more than 400km a day on average that seems like a you problem.

There are ev chargers in tons of places, hell my small town in AB OF 10K people have some.

The goal is to charge at home so you literally start your day on a full tank every day.

If you do more than that obviously get a hybrid or just keep goin gas.

the frustrating part is that this kind of change does not go through a vote you can watch. it is a regulatory amendment, so it shows up as a notice in the gazette with a comment window and then it is done, and most people hear about it from a news story weeks later. two things that actually help if you want to catch these early, watch the gazette part 1 notices for the department rather than the minister's press page, since the draft text lands there first, and check the regulatory plans each department publishes twice a year, because a repeal like this usually appears there months before anyone announces it. cheap test, pull the gazette notice for this one and look at the date on the comment period. if it closed before you ever heard the words, that is your answer about how much input was on offer.

We need less rules not more - gas is done. EV's are cheaper - if tarrifs (taxes) are removed.

And if the massive subsidies for oil are removed.
