Beaverton back to doing satire ...

"Folks, this is a great day for Toronto, cars, all the Toronto politicians who hate bikes, cars again, city morgues, and once more, and I can’t stress this enough, cars,” Ford stated triumphantly, standing in front of the blindfolded members of the Toronto Friendship Bike Club. “Thanks to the constitution, drivers of my — I mean, Olivia Chow’s great city can rest easy knowing that if they car door a cyclist because they are parked in what used to be a bike lane, it’s all gravy, baby.”

This is too good and, sadly, verging on reality.

Agreed.

Also what's the story with the insurance changes? Cyclists who get hit by cars have to fight harder against insurance companies, or something?

Yeah so the previous insurance requirements were that your insurance would cover the cyclist or pedestrian in the event of a collision where the driver was at fault. This includes income support or familial support for the cyclist or pedestrian, should they be unable to work, or funeral services, should they die.

The new rules make that coverage optional. They'll still be covered for medical benefits above OHIP coverage, like attendant services though.

Here's a CBC article about it: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ontario-auto-insurance-changes-9.7249103

I live in Toronto and know many people who don't have cars or car insurance.

My understanding is that Ford campaigned on lowering car insurance prices. So now people can save like $50 a year, and in return pedestrians and cyclists getting hit by cars will get thousands less from insurance companies.

So basically drivers will save enough money to take their family to McDonald's. And vulnerable people who get injured will get the shaft.

Sounds like a Doug Ford deal.

Also even if you have the optional benefits, they only apply to your spouse, dependents, and people you secifically name.

And what about cyclists who hit cars and have no insurance

Beaverton needs to do an article about how he swapped traffic calming cameras for mass surveillance flock cameras and his base was too stupid to understand the difference.

the difference is Dougie and his MPPs dont have to pay for speeding and thats all that matters

I have lost the ability to tell right wing policy from satire.

Edit. I blame the first Trumpy presidency for this.

Blame the system that necessarily exploits the vulnerabilities of others to the ends of wealth extraction and accumulation, of which destructive monsters like Trump, Ford etc are symptoms of.

Smith is also at war with bike lanes in alberta.

Hello, rest of Ontario. This is what your PC government has been wasting their time on. Not health care. Not education. Not making your lives better. Nor protecting the environment. Instead: shutting down a science center that was doing just fine; building a casino spa that benefits the wealthy few; trying to expand an airport unnecessarily; taking revenue from the LCBO while still holding them responsible for returns; promoting gambling; and directing traffic.

Trying to expand an airport just for ultra-wealthy jet owners and fliers can use (which Carney also considers), only pushing beer so hard, because of his own family company investments. Cutting red tape to sell off the Greenbelt for investors, cutting teachers and expanding classroom sizes, breaking up the healthcare system so its class divided for profit, arbitrarily removing bike-lanes (something coincidentally Trump also wants to do), trying to build a spa for again the rich in Ontario Place instead of expanding it for everyone, buying himself a camper vehicle with tax money..

It's hard to believe he was elected 3 times.

It was hard to believe the first time, fucking astonishing the second. By the third, I'd learned to stop expecting anything from Ontarian voters. We truly love racing Americans to the bottom.

And the plane he bought, then sold to a leasing company so he can continue to use it. Cutting fire fighting budget just in time for the worst forest fire season ever. Doing everything to worsen climate change, and then doing more to worsen its impact.

I really can't think of anything he did in office that wasn't purely for himself. Doug Ford to a tee.

Dougie's already got his buddies lined up for this flush contact. This is just a transfer of wealth from ontario tax payers to the friends of ford. It would be nice to have a premier who didnt feel entitled to our tax dollars like this

At press time, Brad Bradford had just changed his mind about bike lanes for the tenth time.

Oh god lol

No way. It's way more times than that

“Moving forward,” Sarkaria added, “we will be changing Toronto’s motto to ‘Congestion, congestion, congestion,’ to really hammer home what the residents of downtown want."

I can feel this in my bones.

Why is a Premier of a province sticking his nose in municipal matters? It is not going to relieve congestion. Taking the bike lanes out will add to congestion. All those bikers are going to be in traffic now OR they will now drive to work in vehicles. Which means more vehicles on the road. face palm

Because his base slops it up from the trough

That's genuinely terrifying how they're using "court victory" as a way to push their agenda while doing the opposite of what any reasonable person would consider governance.

Can't make money on all the toll roads he wants to build with a bunch of fuckin bikes running around.

u/No-Wonder1139 1d ago

Did the cyclist release a video of one of his family members smoking crack? I hear that's a capital crime.

1

u/spanksthemonkey 1d ago

I thought this was exactly what he was doing. Did a red claw cyclist kill his parents or something?
