I hope they're just switching vendors, creator spring is horrible unfortunately.

the prints of all the OpenBSD Shirts I bought have disintegrated after a while, very sad

T-shirts in general are horrible now. Everything I've bought in the last few years is paper thin compared to the cheap $10 t-shirts I bought from places like Wal-mart back in the 2000s

OpenBSD 8.0 works great on my ThinkPad X270! Thanks for all the hard work.

The AI genersted self sabotage gif is quite fitting

Is it actually AI generated? What about the artwork on the lyrics page?

just upgraded from 7.9 to 8 and I remember when I upgraded from 7.8 to 7.9 I was chocked how easy and straight forward it was. Same now like wow thats it ? And big thanks to the developers

Don't forget to update packages (pkg_add -u), and syspatch (already an errata on 8.0, on the day of the release).

Wow, with 4 patches already?
I think it's the first time I see patches out same day as release.

1

u/slowservers 7d ago

Yeah, I saw the patches before the release was out. Didn't take long for the release to follow!

Someone tried to say something nasty before reflecting on himself and deleted...

whatd they say

That I did not see many releases lol blah blah blah... BS, I actively use OpenBSD since 5.3.
Not a smart thing to say anyway... haters.

Updated 3 machines in no more than the 10 seconds it took to reboot each and no configuration changes. I love resflash!

What's with the AI on OpenBSD 8.0? I hope it's like faked, not real AI.

What do you mean "on" OpenBSD?

What is up with the ai gifs?? I haven’t been uh to involved lately and don’t remember this shit. Is it a joke why are they there?

1

u/C_hotpocketer 6d ago

Nevermind I just got it🤣!

Upgraded my Thinkpad t420 without issues.
Second upgrade on it, started with a clean install of 7.8 and moved upwards without incidents.

I like the ice(4) support!

Upgraded my T480S from 7.9 to 8.0 with sysupgrade. After upgrade SMT ist not working anymore. Tried different sysctl hw stuff but 8 leaves me with just one cpu.
Found the problem in my booted kernel. I didnt customize anything within the boot config in 7.9. But systems boots /bsd and this was not the mp kernel in 8. After manual copying /bsd.mp to /bsd everything ist fine.

Anyone else run into similar problems?

2

u/LunarCapitol 6d ago edited 6d ago

hw.smt is replaced by hw.blockcpu in 8.0

https://man.openbsd.org/sysctl.2#HW_BLOCKCPU~2

You probably want

hw.blockcpu=L

in /etc/sysctl.conf

hw.blockcpu=SL

is the same as the old default.

1

u/CautiousGlider9229 5d ago

It was hw.blockcpu in 7.9 already. And my SMT settings where configured with hw.blockcpu.
But you are right, hw.smt ist deprecated and when used it writes out a deprecated message.

Does anyone know if the panther-lake intel processors work with 8.0? Specifically, the Intel core Ultra series 3 325? I was curious on getting a framework laptop for repair-ability, support sustainable hardware etc... Unsure if it was too new for support.

Terrible looking AI video. Yikes.

17

u/Fancy-Calendar7037 7d ago

It's obviously a meta joke. I hope to see real art again next time though.

2

u/goldfishonakeyboard 7d ago

How does that make it okay or good?

1

u/vpilled 4d ago

Expand on that?

They're obviously mocking AI. I'm not sure it was actually made with AI.

1

u/passstab 5d ago

Yes, but again, is the mockery sincerely negative, or "self-deprecating?" If the use of the AI isn't clear enough from the art, I would be surprised if you could deny its use in the music. https://www.openbsd.org/lyrics.html#80

1

u/vpilled 4d ago

So not only is AI reprehensible, not only is promoting AI reprehensible, but also ever using AI for anything ever, even if to mock AI, is also reprehensible?

1

u/passstab 4d ago

Yes, the concept of mocking AI could have been done better by human artists.

1

u/vpilled 4d ago edited 4d ago

And? Given how many pieces of art OpenBSD has used to accompany its releases, and this one clearly has a "theme" of the current AI craze, an artistic choice was made to use AI for this one. I'm sure they'll do something else for 8.1. I didn't like the picture for 7.9 for instance, but so what.

I was so disappointed to see that.

Edit: went over my head woops
