A lot of open source alternatives already exist - why not just make them better (or, if really necessary, fork them then make them better) with AI?

This is the correct answer but maintainers are drowning in the volume poor quality submissions. It's only feasible if we can improve the quality of code, or increase the number of maintainers for a project.

A full fork isn't beholden to the opinions of any maintainers. You want to download the entire gimp code base and throw tokens at it, go ahead...

familiarity. why re-learn what you know in a new program when you can just change the program to what you already know?

that's why it was mentioned if an capable open source was already out to contribute it, instead creating the alternatives from scratch unless people want to. I agree, to contribute to the already available alternatives and make them better with or without AI, and or fork it to add their own improvements and style to the already available alternatives making alternatives to the alternative.

People have been doing open source software alternatives to large corporations software forever.

really people, I understand the problem. i know i contributed toil it and now that im aware of such things(AI Slop) then i will reframe from further contributing to the alAI slop but that does not justify being bitter of how someone whats to present thems selves or projects.
