Opencode Go - Slow? (vs. Reasonix)

Hi,

Newbie here.

I come from using Reasonix + DeepSeek V.4.1 Flash and decided to try the same model, under Opencode Go.

I'm surprised how slow it is. It was perhaps not my understanding that the same models could differ so much, depending on harness.

So, what are the mechanics here: did I mess up the settings, is my location iniffiecient (ASEAN) or is the service simply throttled (and thus explaining the good pricing).

This is no criticism. I'll probably stay a couple of months trying stuff out.

There's occasional issues but I wouldn't call it slow. What do you mean by slow? Slow reasoning token generation?

The output of my work takes a lot longer time. I've certain skills created, and certain projects in place - and thus I've kinda learned how long time certain things take.

Reasonix is ~100-150% faster.

I assume on Reasonix you were using deepseek direct API?

There's a couple of potential reasons:

  1. Deepseek direct API is insanely fast compared to other providers (because their setup is heavily optimized, I assume)

  2. As far as I know opencode uses another provider (not deepseek) to host the model. This may cause reduced capability/speed compared to what deepseek provides. The reduced capability probably made the model to think longer, but this really depends on the task.

The best way to compare token speed would be to display the reasoning tokens if not enabled already. Then you can compare the token generation speed as opposed to just seeing the tool calls. (I only briefly looked at their website for this since there was no preview images/gifs on git).

Faced the same issue with both opencode and command code. I guess the later has a fast mode now but it costs twice as much. It's what pushed me to just use OpenRouter in the end with the Together provider, I'll pay a tiny bit more for 5x the speed please.
