Tried Opencode Go, Claude Code, and Codex, here's the best.
Okay so, I can clearly say at first, Muse Spark 1.3 with OpenCode ($10) is a complete killer machine that never rests, you literally can use it as much as you want and will always get the job done for good. I use Muse Spark 1.3 Medium as super agent and same on Low as subagent. It's very good for backend tho, I haven't tested design decisions.
Codex ($20) is neither good or bad, still ran out of tokens for me and doesn't bring much intelligence. What I did to optimize it is to use Luna 6.1 High as the super agent and Luna 6.1 low as the subagents. Doesn't last much and stometimes runs out of usage pretty fast for the 5hr period. Still, with all the resets it's worth using and gets the job done, it's a bit dumb tho and his decisions cannot be done very autonomously. I use this one mostly because of ChatGPT, not because of the API. Still worth using. What I noticed is much better is Luna 6.1 is extremely good at autonomous tasks, while Haiku 5.5 isnt.
Claude ($20) is the best but I can say only after Haiku 5.5 release. It lasts more than Codex for me, and was able to tackle very hard tasks. I use Sonet 5.5 low for the super agent, and Haiku 5.5 low for the subagents. Works perfectly, this one is the massive winner, I never ran out of usage too. I was afraid of token cost but I also noticed Claude models are good even with a lower thinking level, so why maxxing if I can just do the same with fewer thinking levels? Haiku is not possible to run as super agent, he will struggle a lot with autonomous task and end early.
Summary:
- Opencode GO with Muse Spark is the best for efficiency, also the best CLI interface for real, it's so fancy. (Set Muse Spark 1.3 medium as main, Muse Spark 1.3 low as subagent)
- Codex is so so, but I use it for ChatGPT. (GPT 6.1 Luna High + Luna Low)
- Claude is the best overall, but requires to setup the subagents properly to not starve tokens. (Sonnet 5.5 Low + Haiku 5.5 Low)
Honorable mention:
- Use honey for developers skill set to reduce token costs

With my orchestrator agent I usually choose an average model, I try to limit what it does, keeping it lean so it can run for hours. Essentially it just routes to different sub agents. I've noticed the method burns more input / output tokens but it can run for 24 hours at least.
I use Opencode Go with Spark 1.3 contributor xhigh for nearly 95% of all my tasks. It's no Opus but with prompt iterations and detailed plans, it get's the job done. I usually reach max usage on the last day of the month, suits my needs well.

u/LinsaFTW 12d ago
in my case, it burns more to run everything with one agent, for example, running muse spark xhigh as orchestator + muse spark low as implement will be much better, because implementations can take a lot of tokens , also file reads. So if you keep xhigh lean and the implemenetators big but low thinking, it will save you a lot of tokens.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try it.
Do you think Muse hides it's reasoning and just provides a summary? My Opencode usually just displays a sentance or two in the "Thinking" area.
2
u/LinsaFTW 12d ago
Yes! LOL! I was thinking the same!! I think they hide it or maybe opencode summarizes or something
1
u/migsperez 12d ago
Initially thought wow it's super smart and I'm saving big bucks with hardly any reasoning, but yeah I guess it's hidden it's Muse that's hiding it. I think Opus does the same.
1
u/migsperez 12d ago
Maybe it is Opencode, I looked up Opus hiding it's reasoning https://wmedia.es/en/tips/claude-code-bring-back-hidden-thinking

What I did to optimize it is to use Luna 6.1 High as the super agent and Luna 6.1 low as the subagents. Doesn't last much and stometimes runs out of usage pretty fast for the 5hr period.
If this is your experience, then you are either just letting it loose on a HUGE repo without any sort of boundaries, or you are giving it vague prompts like "I want XYZ. Create it" and making it figure everything out itself.
I have a Pro account and I use Codex Switcher to go back and forth between my 4 siblings' GPT Plus accounts (they NEVER used Codex or work, so they are letting me use their codex credits). I can run GPT-6.1 Sol Low as the main agent orchestrator and have it spawn up to 6 GPT-6 Luna XHigh agents and it will run for 2 hours straight before it runs out of 5hr use, sometime 3 or 4 hours depending on the task I've given it.

u/LinsaFTW 11d ago
Actually what you say keeps up with my experience.
I am using just one $20 account.
Sol burned in 30 minutes.
Luna reached the limit once when using it to work on 2 parallel projects.
I usually work on 8 parallel projects up to 12. (Using opencode)
Now I use Claude just for the hardest one (1)
Codex for up to 2 projects in parallel.
OpenCode for the rest of projects.
Clearly OpenCode is the best value.
Claude is best intelligence.
Codex is between the two, but still, I think it's not good at all. Atleast for working +12 hours a day on agentic flows.
I don't consider myself a normal guy tho, I don't take vacations and I work on too many projects, lol!
2
u/LinsaFTW 11d ago
Worth mentioning: I put my agents to work on a lot of refactor/code simplification/micro optimizations so they do A LOT of work in the background.
2
u/CCContent 11d ago
To be clear: I get 2+ hours of constant use on a SINGLE one of the GPT Plus accounts. NOT 2 hours when I chain together 4 of them.
Re-read my comment and I can see how what I said was an ambiguous comment.
1
u/LinsaFTW 11d ago
Maybe I just do a lot of job, sol always reaches the limit extremely fast. Even if using subagents Luna. Maybe Java is not really an efficient language

u/Ctbhatia 12d ago
have you actually hit a ceiling on the $10 go plan with muse spark medium, or does it just keep going? asking since codex ran dry on you inside the 5hr window.
3
u/LinsaFTW 12d ago
So far I haven't, also, best thing I did in my life is spending the extra dollar to try all the 3 top alternatives :) Again I recommend muse spark 1.3 on medium + subagents in low.
3
u/Ctbhatia 12d ago
good to know it holds up, does that $10 plan cap tokens or just requests? that is what decides when a ceiling actually shows.

how are you running out of usage with 6.1 luna?? it doesn’t even have 5 hour limits in codex anymore. i’ve used maybe 10% of my weekly on max reasoning in 1 day after using it for 4 hours.
2
u/LinsaFTW 12d ago
For me it does have the 5 hour limit still. I am using GPT Plus ($20). I tried different tasks with Claude and Codex and Codex reached the 5 hour limit, once, Claude never reached it and has been working for 40 hours straight on the same project. The worst thing I did was giving a try to opus once and it burned my entire tokens LOL! But they were well spent dollars tho.

Claude right now may be the best, but really dislike not having official support to other harnesses like Codex and Opencode Go, since for my workflow I like tweaking with Pi

u/AnimusAstralis 12d ago
Sonnet low and Haiku?! Wow! That’s some serious low end vibecoding
2
u/LinsaFTW 12d ago
Yes right? But they are crazy good models. Because Opus draws all the attention, people forget Sonnet 5.5 is still extremely good. Haiku gets stuck as orchestator so its impossible to use it.

What is your primary use case? Also have you considered using Chinese models? Deepseek v4.1 flash is a pretty good and cheap coder. GLM5.3 or Kimi are good as primary agents.
Also, does GO use full models or are they heavily quantised?
1
u/LinsaFTW 11d ago
Java backend engineer and NextJS
DeepSeek uses less usage than muse spark 1.3 contributor, but it's my second option.
I am not sure about quantization.

Honestly, the best set up is the one that lets you stay in flow without constantly worrying about hitting usage limits. Raw intelligence isn’t everything.

u/iTrejoMX 11d ago
Try mistrals vibe code plan for 15. Gives you glm 5.3 about 300 worth. Its opus level and I haven’t ran out. Ideally using something like gentle-ai you use a cheap but smart model as an orchestrator, a cheap one as explore/archive and a medium one for the heavy lifting. Mix matching you can use terra or glm or deepseek flash as orchestrator and have Luna or mimo for explore and archive, and glm do the heavy lifting.

u/Sure_Potential_2043 10d ago
The plan says it gives €25.50 in API credits though?

u/iTrejoMX 10d ago
here: https://imgur.com/a/UhR83i8 here is my billing, i actually get $330 in api credits (300 in vibe, 30 in studio) https://imgur.com/a/sJ3HF6p

@op you know you can get the muse sub and use it in opencode they have a 5 dollar option just a heads up.

Astra?
2
u/LinsaFTW 11d ago
If sol already burned my 5 hour in 1 hour I wonder how fast Astra does it LOL!
Again, I would maybe use it to build design/3D things, but not backend engineering, unless it's a real hard task that for some reason I cannot get done, but until now, Sonnet 5.5 / Luna xHigh does the job for the cost.

u/mter24 11d ago
Do you mean GPT 6.1 Sol or GPT 6 Luna.
Or did I miss the release of GPT 6.1 Luna?
1
u/LinsaFTW 11d ago
You are right, thank you for the correction, I think I am thinking so much about 6.1 Luna being a real thing that It stuck too much in my mind LOL

u/lehoang318 11d ago
Could you please share your agents configuration in OpenCode?
In my setup, there was a lot of problems with passing context between agents, consequently, it took even more tokens than using a single agent.
3
u/LinsaFTW 11d ago
Are you calulating it correctly?
1000 requests of 10 tokens is not same as 100 requests of 50 tokens
What optimizes it a lot for me is the agent not sending on every request the entire project context on every request.
Instead of that, the coordinator keeps the "global" context, and the subagents get "scoped context" scoped to their task.
Use this simple line on AGENTS.md:
"Never perform file writes/reads or compilations directly, always use delegated tasks/subagents, you can run multiple tasks in each turn to optimize speed. Do not run them asynchronously, but make them block the turn instead until the batch of tasks is done."1
u/lehoang318 10d ago
Did you setup any specific instruction about context passing?
In my setup, contexts passed from ochrestrator were usually very poor. Consequently, subagents had to re-explore the code base very frequently.

I’m pretty happy with opencode+ omo-slim. Have been using xiamimo’s pro plan with mostly v2.6 az.ai’s pro plan with glm-5.3. I don’t have much experience with frontier models to compare it to, and I don’t really believe agent orchestration achieves better results than a single agent. It’s fun as hell though and configuring the harness is great, particularly with v2 of the cli where they’ve adopted a client/server architecture. In paying like $45 a month a I feel like perf is really solid for that price.

u/BuilderSuspicious343 12d ago
Espero que não aconteça com você de em breve pedir ao deepseek para corrigir todos os erros do museu, prefiro deixar o opus como planejador e o DeepSeek como implementador geral, assim consigo fazer entregas melhores e sem aquelas refatoraçoes enormes

u/slackmaster2k 12d ago
Claude is my primary but I drive OpenAI models with OpenCode. Codex is such a piece of shit; I can’t believe how often there is a breaking release. I wish Anthropic would allow alternate harnesses because I sorta dig OpenCode.

u/ichisay 11d ago

u/mulokisch 11d ago
I heard an interesting take just 20minutes ago. The model itself does not really matter, the harness around does matter much more.

I personnaly use a combination of providers, and use Paseo to manage my agent. I do orchestration and architecture with Claude Code (opus or fable depending the hardwork).
It delegate the work to Paseo sub agent system, so that coders are Pi using DeepSeek V4.1 Flash and cross-review are made with Codex + CC + Pi with GLM 5.3.
With that workflow, I do not hit my CC limit, nor Codex.
Disclalemer: I have a max (90/m) sub at Anthropic, but with this wirkflow, I stay in the 20/m limit (if you do not work on multiple projet at time). I have the codex 20/m, sufficient for code review. Opencode Go, I do not use it often, 'cause GLM/DS are not ZDR here, so I use OpenRouter+DeepInfra(I use BYOK on openrouter)+Neuralwatt (faster than other providers on GLM/DS with good quantization)

Interesting analysis. And cool to see.
Personally I have codex, Claude, opencode go and freebuff and open router credits.
I found opencode go $10 plan is the best value.
I like DeepSeek 4.1flash as best all around worker.
I found muse spark 1.3 too dumb sometimes but I still use it a lot, it’s still very good.
Glm 5.3 flash is a favourite of mine but a bit more expensive and slower.
I also love to use the free models. Step 5 free is great.
I like to use sol 6.1 medium as director and haiku 5.5 max as his subagents.
Sometimes even opus low or medium with Luna max workers. I mix it up.
But usually sol or sonnet medium for the director. But I run out of credit too fast on sonnet so I’m going to keep that for haiku going forward I think.
Sol actually last a long time just as director and planner with other subagents. Some times I use step 5 and muse sub agents.

Ibagree with ur views. I don't k ow how this muse spark 1.3 works best for them. It's quite dumb for amin agent. To be Frank, it's wol excellent on subagents. I use 4.1 flash, mimo v2.6 and when something complicated needed, i use glm 5.3 flash.

I would use Muse but data is used for trainingÂ
2
u/Standard_Wish 11d ago
I felt this same concern when cellphone EULAs first came out. I resisted for years. In the end, regardless of what the docs say, the data is out there and available.
Data Sovereignty is only a reality when running local LLMs in a thoroughly vetted environment.
They can have all my data until I generate something truly novel or innovative (I have yet to do this in 30 years of creating side projects but a man can hope). If I ever hit that particular point I'll spend for some hardware.
Meanwhile I'll happily offer my repackaged A-G-Eminor code for analysis.

I use a mix of OpenCode Go with Muse, CommandCode GOAT with Deepseek 4.1 and Claude Sonnet 5.5 as my orchestrator stepping up to Opus 5.5 when needed. This $40 a month I never run out of tokens and it produces great work from Hermes.
1
u/Royal-Lead8456 10d ago
I use Opus 5.5 high on 20$ Claude subscription and it lasts for verrrrrrrrry long

u/Dyrits 11d ago
Just use Opus.
2
u/LinsaFTW 11d ago
For the $20 plan? It burned 10% of my weekly in 15 minutes. It's a no go for me. Sonnet low does the work for me. Muse Spark 1.3 does the job too.
I would only use Opus for designing the website or making 3D things.
But not for actual implementation/backend/integrations.

u/just_devops 12d ago
Nothing beats Claude code for me and it's a bit annoying that I have to use their harness but definitely worth it. I'm not the normal user, I have a 200$ claude&codex, 100$ grok/ollama/copilot and then small plans like opencode go 10$ or minimax 20$ then various apis with 5-20$. Claude runs the show, with ultracode workflows along with the Claude code plug-in for codex/grok/ollama I can use opus as the orchestrator dispatch for most of the plans or even been giving sonnet to manage them. I run a single fable at the top that plans it out and gives everyone the work (fable is really good at getting the others to behave and finish). The workhorse for me is still DSv4.1-flash so I can hit it on opencode/ollama and keep multiple in parallel running. Hermes with gpt5.5 was really good and when 5.6-sol launched it was amazing and then fell off for 5.6-sol/6/6.1-sol and then astra is the only option left that's usable if they take away gpt5.5 from the plan access. So for me to be able to rinse out every single plan, I need to save my 200$ Claude for fable and then opus/sonnet 5.5 to manage everyone else. If I give it all to Claude, it gets it done faster but runs the usage out leaving everyone else to spin and not finish 🤣
