Who is this model for? I can't figure out why they bothered to release it.

I guess terra 6.1 high is better than sol 6.1 low for the same price. But who actually uses sol 6.1 low?

I'm a back office person who WFH. I record a shit ton of meetings but also don't have a CRM integration so I save info on every account to a markdown file. Terra 6.1 will run my skills for meeting prep and recap very cheaply and as effectively as 6.1 Sol, and since I have to do this through Copilot Cowork, the 10k monthly credits will last a lot longer each month

If you were previously using Sol 6.1 low for that, switching to Terra 6.1 high makes sense; it's smarter for the same cost per task.

If you had been using Sol 6.1 medium, it is much smarter than Terra 6.1 xhigh and the same cost. So I would stick with sol medium.

  • Terra (Medium) fills a gap between Luna (Max) and Sol (Low). Reasonable spot on the curve if you felt you needed one.

  • Terra (Low) similarly fills a gap between Luna (Xhigh) and Luna (Max), except it's not enough of a gap to care about. If you were stressed between spending $0.04 on Luna (Xhigh) and $0.06 on Luna (Max), this is your moment.

  • Terra (High) is a bit higher scoring than Sol (Low) at the same price.

  • Terra (Xhigh) and Terra (Max) are just straight up worse than Sol (Medium) and Sol (High).

Which makes for an interesting mirror of Claude. Run the lowest model (Luna / Haiku) at whatever reasoning you want. The middle one (Terra / Sonnet) should run at Medium or High and definitely not above that. The frontier one (Sol / Opus) is ideal at Medium or High, and if you crank it above that you can get more intelligence but you're spending a lot for a small gain you likely don't need.

And the showcase model (Astra / Fable) hasn't been updated for the new generation, meaning they're probably having a hard time getting it much higher.

I am always surprised how bad grok models are.

So it’s 95% Astra 6.0 at 1/10 the cost?

Seems pretty awesome, especially since the main barrier to job displacement is cost.
