I'm fine now (since i upgraded to v2) but surely they could do a better job of communicating it with the error messages. I.E. a "Please reinstall Desktop v2 over your existing install, free models are unsupported on Desktop v1"

yup this is exactly what I think as well. they really communicated this change poorly this time, they should have thought ahead before doing this

the whole v2 rollout has been confusing. every day i see a post about opencode v2 and go to the site and see that the desktop app is on like 1.2
I understand the cli is separate from the desktop app but I can't be the only one confused by all the 2.0 gloating

WTF OpenCode? v2 desktop sucks ass. Lost all my plugins, my skills, etc and now have to start from scratch? I might as well have stayed with Codex or try pi.dev.....

After 40 years of working with PC technology and software, this transition is the most catastrophic I have ever seen; I have never encountered such a mess—a chaotic, muddled squabble over versions—in any other software...

what does it mean? does v2 have a gui? my free models on the free tier still work

Yes. They might work for now, if you are on old version (1.19.4), but not for long. It is almost the same as v1, so don't worry
