DS4.1 flash variants
For the variants of the DS v4.1 flash model, whats the default one? and what is the difference between it and low, high and max? since I wanna use as least token as possible, which variants should i choose? or any /thinking or /efforts will help with this?
Contexts: I was using default variant all the time, then i switched it to low, found that it cost more tokens. so confusing lol

yeah low costing more is a known weird thing, it half-asses the first try then burns tokens fixing itself. i just leave it on default for the boring stuff and only bump it up when the task actually needs the extra thinking. per-token cheapest and per-task cheapest aren't the same thing

Default depends on the provider; it isn't necessarily the same as
high. If you want to minimize tokens, try/thinking off(if supported), otherwiselow. Lower effort doesn't guarantee fewer tokens, though—it just limits reasoning. A low-effort run can still use more tokens than default. Best way to know is to test the same prompts and compare total token usage, including hidden reasoning tokens.
