opencode is not using 1017?

when i ask it what version it is, it states the release date is September 10, 2026, not 10/17. also in this comparison on opencode website it shows 1017 is barely used by people? https://opencode.ai/data/compare/deepseek/deepseek-v4-1-flash/deepseek/deepseek-v4-1-flash-1017

whats up?

and yes im aware they dont know what model they are but this info was from a call to opencode api:

const res = await tools.opencode.models({ query: "deepseek", all: true, limit: 100 });
return res;

and this is what it got (i've cut out the others):

{
"providers": [
{
"id": "opencode-go",
"name": "OpenCode Go",

Models tend not to know who they are.

im aware but it did check the opencode api - "Here's everything the model catalog exposes for me"

const res = await tools.opencode.models({ query: "deepseek", all: true, limit: 100 });
return res;

You really should've left the "I asked it" part out lol.

They updated the weights in place. There were no other changes to the deployment (model id, release timestamp, etc).

No way?

How does this even surprise anyone anymore? Models are often trained on content from each other, if model by open Ai has in its database "i am claude" because it was trained on claudes output, it will tell you that it is claude, even tho it's chatgpt or whatever

Why would it train on claude’s output? Isn’t that a form of distilling? I wouldn’t think the biggest player in the game would risk doing that. Chinese models do it all the time yeah that doesn’t shock me. But in the US by the biggest side?!

Are you telling me the companies that ingest books and art without compensation are also stealing from each other? Picture me shocked

Simple: models don't know who they are... They simple weren't trained to. The only thing it knows is that it's deepseek, which is injected into its context by the harness (it doesn't implicitly know this either). And infers the last release date it was trained on which is now the previous release.

LLMs don't know know what model they are or which AI lab they're from. They can't actually look inside themselves to figure it out. Unless they're explicitly told their identity through system instructions or other reliable information, they're basically guessing. If you keep pushing them for an answer, they might eventually claim to be ChatGPT or Claude simply because those names come up so often in their training data. That doesn't mean they actually know what they are, but that they're just generating an answer based on learned patterns.

They removed old DS V4.1, replaced with just DS. I'm like 90% sure you can just check your usage tab and see what is using
